Chapter 711
”Remember, hold on tight,” Windsor said.
After he finished speaking, he collapsed to the ground with a loud thud.
Odalys had given him 48 hours, and there were only twenty minutes left.
And now his strength seemed to have been drained, or perhaps he had been forcing himself to stay himself, to the point where he was completely exhausted.
“Odalys, what should we do now? We want to get out of here too, but we can’t find the exit,” Freya said.
If they could find the exit, they would have left long ago.
“Francis, come here,” Odalys said.
Francis was stunned to be called upon. He quickly walked forward.
His wrist was grabbed by Odalys. Francis was taken aback, then he felt a surge of power being transmitted to his hand. The next second, he was kicked out by her.
“Take them with you first, and find Orson after you leave,” Odalys said.
Francis was kicked away by her, and an opening appeared in front of him. Freya’s eyes reddened as she saw this. She tried to rush forward and said, “Odalys, let’s go together.”
“Francis, take them away,” Odalys said with a serious expression.
Francis stood there, struggling for a few moments. After exchanging a look with Stellan, the two grabbed Windsor, dragged him up, and pulled Freya and Selah, jumping out.
The moment they jumped out, the crack closed up.
Everything happened so fast that before anyone could see clearly, it was already over.
“Why did they suddenly come in? Does it really have something to do with your aura on the talismans?” Percival finally asked slowly.
Perhaps those people believed it, but Percival did not.
“No.” Odalys shook her head.
She looked in the direction Francis and the others had disappeared, and after a long while, she said, “I have a feeling that Francis, Stellan, Freya, and Selah are all short-lived.
“Because they met me, their destinies were changed. But their auras are too weak, which leads them to encounter those dirty things. If I hadn’t given them talismans, they might have died on the way out of Stewart Villa.
“Especially Selah. In her previous life, she should have died when I married you,” Odalys said.
The fact that these four people were here at the same time meant that they were about to die. “Freya’s father died in the line of duty. I suspect he may have died for her. Your father must have known about this, so he adopted her and kept her in the Stewart family.
“According to Freya’s fate, she shouldn’t have lived to this age at all. That’s why I’m close to her. “And the reason Edie has been targeting her and wants her dead is not because of jealousy, but because she can see that Freya is dying and wants to use her death to turn her into a puppet. “As I mentioned before, Edie should know how to place a curse. She has always been malicious and wouldn’t waste time on things that are not beneficial to her.
“Freya is her target. Unfortunately, even though Freya is short-lived, someone died for her before, so her luck has become better.
“So I suspect that her parents’ deaths were to ward off disaster for her. She doesn’t know about this,” Odalys said.
Percival was shocked. He did not expect it to be like this.
“I wasn’t too sure before, after all, very few people succeed in changing their fate. But now all four of them are here, which means what I said is true,” Odalys said.
“Are you saying my father also knew about this? “Or are you suspecting that my father was also involved, that he helped Freya’s parents take the disaster for her?” Percival asked in surprise. He hadn’t expected the gossip to lead back to his father.
“Have you investigated the deaths of Freya’s parents?” Odalys didn’t answer but asked instead.
Percival shook his head.
His father had made the decision to adopt Freya. He was still a kid at that time, so naturally, he wouldn’t interfere, let alone question the words of his elder.
“When I first saw her, I noticed that her fortune was good, but it didn’t belong to her. So I guessed that when her parents died, they gave her all their fortune, hoping that she would live on,” Odalys said.
When she said this, Percival finally understood.
“Is this why you often spend time with her?” Percival asked.
No wonder Odalys would go to Freya whenever she was free after filming the variety show, spending all day with her.
“Sort of. I guess Freya and I are fated,” Odalys said.
Percival pursed his thin lips and asked with great difficulty, “Francis, Stellan, Selah, and Freya are all short-lived. Does that mean they are about to die?”
Odalys was silent.
“Yes,” Odalys said.
Percival couldn’t help clenching his fists. Over the years, he had little contact with Freya. Like the Stewart Family didn’t care about her, she fought outside and didn’t rely on the Stewart Family.
But he regarded her as his sister in his heart.
Now hearing that she might die soon, Percival felt very uncomfortable.
“Can she be saved?” Percival asked.
If there was still a chance to change it, he wanted to try.
“It depends on whether we can find Edie’s weakness, such as the curse she keeps. If we can find it, I might have a way. But don’t forget that she has been looking for young girls to have posthumous marriages.
“The posthumous marriage is actually related to the curse. She wants the souls of these girls to nourish those curses, so this so-called curse is different from what ordinary people think.
“The curse she has is not nourished by blood, but by the souls of young girls who willingly enter into posthumous marriages.
“That’s why she’s always been safe. She knows how to hide herself well, and no one can find her. But I’ve checked, and there’s no curse on her,” Odalys said.
It seemed she had seen through everything.
“Okay.” Percival seemed to see hope again when he heard her words.
Odalys didn’t continue the topic but walked toward Windsor. “We have to leave within half an hour.”
“Before we go, let’s go back the way Windsor came. Maybe we’ll find something,” Odalys said.
Her goal was very clear. She came in for a reason, and she would do it. She would not change her mind because of some unexpected things. She had always been so decisive.
“Okay,” Percival replied quickly.
He followed behind her, but Odalys reached out and clasped his large hand.
Percival was a little surprised that she was holding his hand, but the next second he responded to her and intertwined his fingers with hers.
“My energy increases whenever I have physical contact with you,” Odalys suddenly said.
Chapter 712
After she finished speaking, she gripped his hand tighter.
Percival looked down at her hand tightly clutching his own. He couldn’t help but respond to her touch, a smile curving his lips. The twinkle in his eyes was obvious.
“Windsor is quite strong, running for nine blocks.” Odalys chuckled softly.
Fortunately, both she and Percival had excellent stamina. They followed Windsor’s escape route with big strides and soon stopped near the shopping mall.
“This is it,” Odalys said.
Percival came back to his senses. He stopped and stood beside her near the shopping mall.
A Cayenne sped toward them. The figure inside quickly got out of the car and rushed inside. This scene repeated itself again and again.
“Let’s follow it and see,” Odalys said.
The two followed the figure inside, and the entire shopping mall plunged into darkness.
Percival looked at the figure and said after a long time, “It’s my father.”
“Look at the date near the shop,” Odalys said.
As they looked at the date and time, time went backward and repeated itself. Every time they were about to see clearly, it started all over again. Odalys’ heart sank.
“It seems that we can’t be sure when it happened, but what is certain is that Windsor met your father before the accident.
“It’s also possible that your father’s accident was planned with him. If this is true, Windsor has been tricked by the Simpson family. It’s very likely that he, like your father, is personally involved.
“In that case, maybe he knew there was something wrong with Sophia a long time ago. Let’s see why Sophia was adopted,” Odalys said. After she finished speaking, a car suddenly drove up at high speed.
With a screech, the car sped toward them but stopped steadily beside them. As the window rolled down, Percival’s father’s face appeared.
And he just glanced at Odalys and Percival indifferently.
“Morpheus.” Seeing this, Percival wanted to go forward.
However, the car drove away quickly and soon disappeared from their sight.
Odalys grabbed Percival’s arm. She looked down at the disappearing car, then at her hand, and said, “Your father just looked at my hand.”
“What do you mean?” A trace of doubt flashed across Percival’s eyes.
She raised her hand. Inside was what Windsor had given her. Just now, the car had sped toward them, and as it passed by, the window was rolled down. The person inside glanced at them, but his eyes darted to her hand.
It was just a glance. He said nothing.
“Let’s go. We’re running out of time. We won’t be able to go back if we don’t leave now,” Odalys said.
She pulled Percival back, but he stopped. He stood there for a full ten seconds, but the car that had been driving back and forth repeatedly didn’t reappear.
“It’s not coming,” Odalys said.
What happens in the Time Tunnel will repeat itself endlessly.
Just like a person who commits suicide, they keep repeating the same action after death. The same went for what happened just now, but now the car was gone.
“Why?” Percival asked.
Odalys turned back and stood in front of him. She cupped his face, looked at him seriously, and said, “Because the Time Tunnel is like a documentary.
“It’s playing over and over again. Everything we see seems real, but it’s actually fake. It’s nothing. It’s all an illusion.
“Now that we know why he keeps appearing, he won’t come again,” Odalys said.
As soon as she finished speaking, they vaguely heard a rumble, and lightning flashed continuously in front of them. Before the two could speak, the lightning struck a big tree beside them.
The big tree fell down, and Percival and Odalys disappeared along with it.
Inside the screening hall in the cinema.
Orson fell to the ground and watched Sophia stand in front of him, constantly taking off her clothes.
His breathing became rapid, not because he was attracted to her, but because he was so angry that his face turned gloomy.
He gritted his teeth and turned his head, only to find that everything around him was strange.
“It’s all fake, a trick,” Orson said.
His mind cleared instantly, and he remembered Odalys’ previous instructions. Atlas couldn’t get in, and Sophia couldn’t get in unscathed. If she was something evil, she would die if she came in. So everything was fake.
Thinking of this, Orson crawled forward, picked up the talisman that had been thrown down, and took out a lighter to light it.
But when the lighter got close to the talisman, it wouldn’t light. He was so anxious that he stamped his feet.
“Damn it, burn now,” Orson cursed angrily.
But his hand trembled uncontrollably, and he couldn’t light the talisman no matter what. Just as he was getting anxious, the snake whooshed over.
The snake’s tail flicked against his hand, knocking the lighter away and sticking it to the talisman.
As the talisman was lit, a pair of boneless hands wrapped around Orson’s neck, and a woman leaned close to his ear and breathed. He swallowed nervously.
A scream rang out beside his ear.
The burning talisman paper emitted a dazzling light and the lines that were previously refracted in the screening hall instantly intertwined and bounced toward him.
Orson instantly came back to his senses. He turned his head to look at the footsteps on the ground as if someone had fled in a hurry, and there was a pool of blood on the ground.
A loud noise came from behind him.
Orson turned around in fright, picked up a chair beside him, and was about to throw it over.
“Orson, it’s me.” Freya was terrified.
Her voice startled Orson. His hand softened, and the chair fell from his hand, hitting his foot. Orson stood there in pain.
“Ouch, damn it, what a bummer,” Orson groaned.
He forced himself to endure it without showing his embarrassment.
As Orson looked at them, his gaze finally fell on Windsor. He saw him fall to the ground with a bang, blood continuously seeping from the corner of his mouth. He didn’t move at all.
“Windsor? Why are you with him? I thought he was missing.” Orson’s devastatingly handsome face darkened.
He strode forward and kicked Windsor.
But Windsor was unconscious. Even though Orson kicked him several times, he lay there unmoving.
After Freya explained the whole story, Orson was shocked. He didn’t expect Windsor to hide in the Time Tunnel. After all, anyone who could get in there must be somewhat powerful.
He had indeed looked down on Windsor before, but he had not expected him to have a trick up his sleeve.
“It seems this guy is hiding his true abilities,” Orson murmured.
Selah sat down on the ground and looked around the empty cinema. “This is a cinema? Weren’t we near Stewart Villa? How did we end up here?” she asked.
“Odalys must have brought us here,” Francis said.
Chapter 713
Freya didn’t say anything. She felt a little uncomfortable in her chest and was obviously not feeling well. Just as she was about to go to the side and sit down, she noticed footprints all over the floor.
“Whose footprints are these? Why is there blood on them?” Freya asked in surprise.
She felt weak as if all her strength and energy had been drained.
The others followed her gaze and saw the messy footprints, as if someone had been running. Francis walked quickly to the door and found the same footprints all over the hallway. “The footprints look like a child’s,” Stellan said. “They look like a child’s, but also like an old person’s,” Francis said.
Hearing this, the others immediately gathered around, looked at the footprints, and said, “He’s got a left foot like a child and a right foot like an old man. Whose feet are so strange?”
“Sophia,” Orson said.
Hearing this name, everyone felt sick.
As they spoke, Windsor woke up.
As he got up from the ground, he looked around in confusion. He asked seriously, “Why am I here? Who tied me up?”
When Windsor spoke, he felt like his body was falling apart.
He gasped in pain and struggled to his feet. Hearing his voice, everyone couldn’t help but tremble. They quickly turned their heads to meet Windsor’s dark eyes. Freya and Selah subconsciously frowned.
“Why do I feel he’s different?” said Selah.
Francis lowered his voice and said, “Didn’t Odalys say he could only stay awake for 48 hours? When the time is up, that thing on him will come back.
“The current Windsor is probably not the real Windsor, but more like a puppet whose body has been taken over by someone else.”
Hearing Francis say this, everyone fell silent.
“Orson, my Bennett family has never had any business dealings with your Lark family. Why do you mess with me at such a young age? And you even kidnapped me.” Windsor’s eyes flashed with disgust.
Obviously, he looked down upon the Lark family. Orson touched his tall nose and slowly stood up. “Mr. Bennett, this is a cinema. We’re all watching a movie. How are we bothering you? I didn’t kidnap you. Besides, why would anyone kidnap you?
“Do you really think you’re some powerful businessman? It’s been three years since you left Crownridge. The Bennett family went bankrupt, and you divorced Hannah.
“Even if the Bennett family hadn’t gone bankrupt, you are not the one in charge. Do you really think we’d kidnap you?
Don’t flatter yourself,” Orson sneered.
As expected, Windsor’s expression changed at his words.
He looked around and saw that the movie was still playing on the screen. The cinema was empty; there was no one else there.
It looked like the whole cinema had been booked. There was nothing tying him; he really didn’t seem to be kidnapped.
“Don’t get too cocky. You’re still young. The higher you go, the harder you fall,” Windsor said as he stood up.
He walked away with a disdainful look.
Only after Windsor left did everyone fall onto the carpet.
As they fell silent, Percival and Odalys fell to the ground. Freya saw a flash of figures and hurried over.
“Odalys.” Freya’s eyes turned red the moment she saw her.
She rushed forward, hugged Odalys tightly, and said, “I was so worried! I thought you’d never come back.”
“Oh.” Odalys chuckled, hugging her back. “But I’ m back now, aren’t I?”
“Where’s Windsor?” Percival asked.
Orson hurried over and told him everything that had just happened.
“So Windsor has been possessed again?” Percival was a little surprised.
But Odalys was always right in what she said. She had said that Windsor would be possessed again when the time came.
“Yes, he looks different from when he’s himself.” Stellan nodded.
After they chatted for a while, Freya and the others received a call from Zachery, telling them to return to the Film Capital before six o’clock to continue filming the revised script.
“It’s already being edited? Is he planning to air it next month?” Stellan was a little surprised.
Usually, TV series were edited after filming and then submitted for review. It took several months to queue up for review, and finally, it depended on how the platform arranged it. It could only be aired after signing the contract.
“Yes, many platforms are already rushing to get this kind of TV series, but so far, there are not any TV series of this kind. The only one is the one we are currently filming.
“So they signaled us to arrange the release immediately after filming.” The producer smiled from ear to ear.
He couldn’t believe such a good thing had happened to him.
If the TV series was not aired after filming, once the actors encountered any problems, the TV series would also be affected. And if it was suppressed for too long, the popularity would decrease.
“Okay, then let’s go back now,” Stellan said.
After answering the phone, several people rushed back to the Film Capital.
Odalys didn’t say anything. She listened to Orson talking about what happened. She followed the footprints and walked out. Standing in the lobby of the cinema, she said after a long time, “Henry kidnapped him back.
“But someone came, and the person who came should be a soul, so Sophia should have come here out of her body. I didn’t expect her to have such an ability.
“It’s a pity that she was counter-injured now. She must have been hurt. She won’t be able to walk for three days,” Odalys said.
As soon as she finished speaking, Percival’s phone vibrated.
He hurriedly walked to the side to answer the phone. He asked, “Evander, what’s wrong?”
“What?” Percival said in disbelief.
Orson and Odalys looked at him. After Percival hung up the phone, he walked over and was silent for a few seconds. Then he said, “The century-old tree in front of the house was just struck down by lightning.”
“What? No way. Wasn’t the tree always fine when it thundered? How did it get struck down today?”
A trace of doubt flashed in Orson’s eyes.
Besides, this kind of century-old tree had a very thick trunk, and even thunder may not be able to knock it down.
“What should we do now?” Orson asked worriedly.
Odalys and Percival looked at each other.
“You go back first and stabilize Evander’s emotions. Tell him that the tree was struck by lightning and it won’t affect anything else,” said Odalys.
Orson didn’t dare to delay, so he immediately took the car keys and drove away in the direction of the Stewart mansion.
That snake didn’t follow but wrapped itself around Percival’s arm and stealthily poked its head to look at Odalys.
“Look.” Odalys spread her hand.
Chapter 714
She stretched her hand out to Percival. There was something lying in the center of her palm. She stared at it with her attractive eyes. Suddenly, the thing raised its head and lunged at Percival.
Before Odalys and Percival could react, the thing had already attached itself to Percival’s wrist. Percival groaned, feeling a sharp pain in his wrist. His flesh had been bitten, and the thing burrowed into his body, leaving only two drops of blood on his skin.
“What is this thing?” Percival’s expression changed slightly.
He reached out to grab his wrist, but the thing had already burrowed into his body. The veins on his arm were bulging. He groaned, feeling as if his entire body was on fire.
“A curse,” Odalys said.
She watched as the curse burrowed into Percival’s body. His face grew increasingly pale. She quickly took his pulse and only let go after a long while. “The curse has become a part of your body.
“It seems that Windsor went into the Time Tunnel this time to find this curse, and this worm has been kept inside, without any contact with the outside world.
“It’s also possible that this curse has been on the image left by your father, raised for so many years, just waiting for Windsor to pick it up,” Odalys said.
Her eyes were complicated. She did not expect that Windsor’s disappearance for such a long time was actually to obtain the curse.
“I have only seen records of this kind of curse raised in a Time Tunnel in books. It is the negative curse worm because the Time Tunnel is considered a place in the underworld.
“And the curse raised in that kind of place needs energy to support it, and this thing recognizes its owner. Just now, when I opened my hand, it rushed toward you. Obviously, it was raised for you.
“And no one but me can bring it out, not even Windsor.
“I grew up in the mountains all year round and I am a member of the metaphysical world, so I have charms on my body.
That’s why it can be brought out by me intact. It seems that after Windsor found it, he had been waiting for me to go in and bring it out for him.
“It seems that this time he disappeared; he was sure that I would help him get the thing out of his body, and he was also sure that I would not let him die for the time being. It seems that he was really gambling,” Odalys said.
Windsor seemed to be doing things without any rules, but in fact, he had been planning.
“This negative curse worm recognizes me as its master?” A strange look flashed across Percival’s eyes.
But now there was nothing unusual about his body, as if what had just happened was an illusion.
“If I’m not mistaken, it has something to do with the poison in you. You’ve been terminally ill for a long time, and even if you’re kept alive with medicine, you’ll only be able to hold on for a while. But with the negative curse worm, it’s different: “What the negative curse worm absorbs is exactly what the body’s owner doesn’t need, so it may transfer the poison from your body, but it may be very painful later on.
“If it can’t digest it in time, or it can’t digest it, it will die in your body, and then the poison will continue to spread in your body. After it dies, you will be helpless,” Odalys said.
It was a dangerous move.
And this dangerous move was left by his father. “So my father and Windsor knew I was poisoned; they knew what poison I had, and they knew I was doomed.” Percival found it hard to believe. His father seemed to know everything, like God.
“This should be the way he wants to keep you alive, or this is the only surprise he left you, Percival. It seems that Morpheus really loves you.
“Even if something goes wrong, even if he dies, he will find a way to save your life.” Odalys’ voice choked up a little.
She never felt loved, nor did she experience parental love.
She didn’t expect parental love to be so powerful.
At this moment, she actually envied Percival a little. Even though Morpheus was not around, he still loved Percival in a different way.
“Odalys.” Percival stepped forward.
He gently pulled Odalys into his arms. Lowering his head, he rested his chin on top of hers and whispered, “I’ll love you from now on.”
“Okay.” Odalys chuckled.
It was just a fleeting moment of sadness. She hadn’t felt this melancholic in years.
Percival held her tightly as they stood there. The cinema lights cast elongated shadows on them, intertwining repeatedly.
She was held tightly in Percival’s arms as if she were a treasure.
Inhaling his familiar scent, she finally spoke after a while, “It seems Windsor has always had a backup plan, and he and Hannah are not on the same side.
“He may be the secret weapon your father left behind to launch this whole plan, and he’s also the lifeline your father left behind to save you,” Odalys said.
Percival was overwhelmed with mixed emotions. Looking at the mark on his wrist where he was bitten by the negative curse worm, he fell silent.
“Let’s go home and see Evander. He went to Tillery Villa today, so maybe he has some unexpected gains too,” Odalys said.
Percival chuckled.
He felt like her optimism was like a ray of dawn, illuminating his darkened heart.
“Okay,” Percival replied.
After the two left the cinema and went downstairs to get in the car, a figure came running over.
“Odalys,” Henry’s voice sounded.
Odalys’ arm was grabbed by him. She turned around in confusion and saw some slight scratches on Henry’s face. A flicker of fear flashed through his eyes as he said, “Atlas had an accident at the cinema earlier, so I tied him and Sophia up and took them back.
“I can’t believe something strange just happened. Sophia actually bit and ate Atlas’ flesh.” Henry was terrified.
This was just like a pervert.
“She bit his flesh?” Odalys’ eyes flashed with surprise.
Henry nodded quickly and said, “Yes, so after I knocked Sophia unconscious, Atlas was also not right. He said he didn’t remember going out at all.
“He doesn’t remember anything that happened in the past two days, including Caspian’s leg being broken and taken away by the police. He didn’t know anything about it, and it didn’t look like he was pretending.
“I don’t know if he is out of his mind. Now that Dad is back, he locks Atlas in the room. I don’t know what he wants to do,” Henry said.
He felt that the Bennett family was terrifying. Every one of them seemed to be insane.
“If something happens, I suggest you call the police. If you come to me, there is nothing I can do to interfere with your Bennett family affairs,” Odalys said coldly.
Henry shook his head.
“It’s no use calling the police. They came, but after they arrived, Sophia returned to normal. I have no evidence for what I said, so the police left after asking a few questions,” Henry said.
Now his heart was filled with sadness.
He didn’t expect that the once glorious Bennett family would be ruled by the devil.
Chapter 715
Seeing this, Percival asked, “What do you think?” “Why don’t we go and have a look?” Odalys said. She was also a little curious about what kind of damage Sophia’s body had suffered after her soul left her body.
“Okay.” Percival agreed.
Sophia was a crucial link, and for this reason, they had to be on guard against her.
“Get in the car,” Odalys said.
Henry hurriedly got into the car, sitting there with an uneasy and bewildered look. Looking at Percival and Odalys, he wanted to say something but hesitated.
“Odalys, if the Bennett family really can’t be saved, can you save my life?” Henry finally asked. Only now did he realize that what happened to the Bennett family was definitely not an accident. The thought that everyone in the Bennett family might die scared him a little. Everyone was afraid of death. He was no exception.
Odalys didn’t answer his question. She just looked up at the rearview mirror and met Henry’s eyes. Their eyes met in the air. She turned her head away, no longer looking at him.
Percival drove off in the direction of the Bennett Villa. As soon as the car stopped, Atlas rushed out of the villa.
“Damn it, Sophia, you pervert! You want to eat my flesh? What the hell are you?” Atlas grunted in pain and fell to the ground. His legs were still weak. He never saw a pervert like this.
After Odalys got out of the car, she saw Atlas fall to the ground. His bitten arm was exposed, and she strode forward and pressed down on his hand.
“Don’t move, let me see,” said Odalys.
Hearing her voice, Atlas felt like he had seen a savior. He looked at Odalys with tears in his eyes, never longing to see her as much as he did at this moment.
He couldn’t understand why he had always targeted her. It was too late for regrets.
“How is he?” Percival asked. He strode forward and squatted down slowly beside Odalys. “Look,” Odalys said as she lifted Atlas’ arm.
Percival looked at the bite marks on his arm and said in surprise, “Looking at these bite marks of varying depths, it doesn’t look like the teeth of a young person, but rather the teeth of an old guy.” “A total of 28 teeth, 13 missing.”
Percival said.
Atlas had been scared, and now he was even more scared.
“An old guy? Sophia bit me! Are you saying she is old? No way, Sophia’s teeth are fine. She didn’t lose any teeth!” Atlas was dumbfounded.
He was confused. Henry was also puzzled.
“She’s inside. If you don’t believe me, come in with me.” Atlas led them toward the Bennett Villa, his body in pain.
Ignoring his pain, he kicked Sophia’s door open with a bang.
They saw Sophia fresh out of the shower. She was wrapped in a towel, her long legs exposed. She stared at everyone in surprise.
“What… What are you doing?” Sophia was startled.
She collapsed onto the sofa, her body soaked. Water droplets dripped from the ends of her hair, and her eyes were fixed on Percival. The way she looked at him was seductive. Everyone could see that she did this on purpose to seduce Percival.
Taking a shower was a lie. She had discovered they were coming over and had even heard Atlas say that he was going to bring them in to find her, so she deliberately took off her clothes in the bathroom and pretended to have just finished showering.
“Atlas, why did you bring them into my room?
Even if you don’t like me, you can’t do this.”
Sophia said tearfully. She burst into tears as she spoke.
Odalys looked at Sophia’s fingertips. Sophia had suffered sulfuric acid burns before, and all ten of her fingers had been injured.
With the water on her wounds, blood flew out.
Odalys’ gaze flashed past Sophia’s fingertips and landed on her body. Sophia’s skin was frighteningly pale, as if all the blood had drained from her body.
“It was her! She bit me just now!” Atlas rushed in. He reached out and held Sophia’s jaw, forcing her to open her mouth. He saw her neat teeth and then looked at the bite marks on his arm, realizing they didn’t match. Atlas was shocked and confused.
“She bit me. How could the marks not match her teeth?” Atlas went crazy. He was about to go insane.
Not only was he feeling terrible emotionally, but his whole body ached intensely. The dense wounds were being stretched.
He was in so much pain that cold sweat poured down his body. Finally, he collapsed to the ground and fainted.
Seeing Atlas like this, Henry felt a twinge in his heart. “He’s covered in injuries; I’ll take him back to his room first,” said Henry.
He carried Atlas away, leaving only Percival, Sophia and Odalys in the room.
“Odalys, did you misunderstand me because of those rumors? There was a misunderstanding between us.” Sophia bit her lip and quietly sized up Odalys. Seeing Odalys looking at her with a seeming smile, Sophia panicked.
After a while, Odalys looked at Percival and said, “Let’s go.”
“Okay,” Percival replied.
The two turned to leave. Sophia panicked.
Ignoring everything else, she immediately got up and rushed forward, trying to grab Percival, but
Odalys slapped her backhand. With a “slap”, Sophia was thrown back onto the bed. The door slammed shut with a “bang,” and the sound echoed.
Sophia was slapped in the face, and she fell on the bed in pain. She couldn’t get up. Blood oozed from the corner of her mouth. She had been trying to hold on, but now, after being slapped by Odalys, she was internally injured.
“Ugh.” Sophia spat out a mouthful of blood. She was badly hurt at the cinema.
Sophia sat up and tore off the things stuck to the soles of her feet. Blood was oozing out from the deep wounds as if she had stepped on glass fragments. She was in so much pain that cold sweat covered her body. But at the same time, she thought of Percival’s tall and strong body. Just now, when he stood in the room, she felt her body burning for him. He had what she needed in his body.
Now, her body was severely damaged. If she didn’t get anything to remedy her body, she wouldn’t be far from death.
To this day, she still couldn’t figure out how Odalys, a nobody, could have ruined her so completely. After all these years of enduring humiliation in the Bennett family, she was beaten back to her original form by Odalys before she could even make a move. The more Sophia thought about it, the more indignant she became.
“Where is Edie? Didn’t we agree to work together? Why is it that when I’m in trouble, she disappears?” Sophia was fuming. Since meeting Odalys, she felt as if she had been suppressed. Many things were beyond her control, both in action and in luck.
Odalys was pressing down on her from all sides. She murmured, “I don’t want to go on like this. I have to find a way to meet Percival privately. What’s inside him can save me, and kill Odalys.” A cold look flashed across Sophia’s eyes.
Chapter 716
Odalys and Percival did not leave but stood outside the door.
Sophia’s low murmur came through the door. Odalys subconsciously glanced at Percival. He waved his hand and said, “I won’t see her.”
“She’s after the negative curse worm in your body,” Odalys said.
Ordinary people could not see the negative curse worm, but Sophia could sense it.
“Do we need to find Windsor?” Percival asked.
Odalys shook her head. As she passed Windsor’ s study, she stopped subconsciously but did not knock on the door. They stood still for a few seconds before walking downstairs.
As the two of them were going downstairs, Hannah and Edie rushed back in.
“What are you doing here?” Edie asked, her face dark. She glared at Percival as if he were her worst enemy. Hannah remained silent, her eyes darting between Odalys and Percival.
“Let’s go.” Percival chose to ignore them.
Seeing this, Edie panicked. She rushed forward to grab Percival, but the moment she touched his arm, a searing pain shot through her body, as if her insides were being ripped apart.
“Ah!” Edie screamed. Her pupils dilated as she felt something surging inside her. She felt that something was about to claw its way out.
Edie stared wide-eyed at Percival before collapsing to her knees. “Pfft!” A mouthful of blood sprayed from her lips as her body trembled uncontrollably.
“You… How could you…” Edie murmured.
Her body seemed to be beyond her control. The moment she touched Percival, something inside of her seemed to awaken, trying to break free. Once it broke free, she would surely die.
Why was this happening? What was in Percival’s body that could forcibly awaken the curse worm within her body and even excite it? “Get lost! Get lost!” Edie roared.
Odalys watched her go crazy and struggle. Her current state was quite similar to Sophia’s, but Sophia longed for the curse worm in Pervical’s body, while Edie was terrified.
“Ms. Simpson, why are you so agitated? Could it be that you’ve done something shameful and can’t control your emotions? It seems to me that something inside you is about to awaken,” Odalys said. The more she said, the darker Edie’s face became.
“Need me to give you a hand?” Odalys deliberately asked.
On her face, which had been well-maintained, several wrinkles were etched by anger. Her vicious eyes stared at Odalys. She thought Odalys was about to leave.
To Edie’s surprise, Odalys turned around, pulled up a chair, and sat down right in front of her.
“Edie, I heard you’re Percival’s mother?” Odalys asked, raising an eyebrow. Edie’s face darkened, clearly aware that Odalys was being deliberately provocative.
Hannah, who was standing by their side, quietly moved away, as if trying to make herself invisible.
Last night, she had been beaten black and blue by Freya and Freya’s friends. She had just returned from the hospital. The hospital refused to admit her, asking her to go home after getting her wound addressed.
To her dismay, she ran into Edie as soon as she arrived back at the Bennett residence.
“I’ll go upstairs first. You two chat,” Hannah said. Although she was unhappy with Odalys, she wasn’t stupid enough to pick a fight. Odalys was ruthless already. Also, with Percival around now, showing any hostility towards Odalys would be suicidal.
Hannah wasn’t foolish. She had regained her senses and knew better than to provoke anyone from the Stewart family. Freya injured her, but she dared not say a word and did not even dare to ask for justice.
“What do you mean?” Edie’s eyes flickered.
Odalys looked down at her, sized up Edie, then looked at Percival and said, “Have you heard of a family connection? If you are Percival’s biological mother, then there must be a connection between you. And you have a curse on you; don’t even try to deny it, and the curse has been with you for a long time.” As Odalys said this, she paused subconsciously.
Edie looked at her in astonishment.
She didn’t expect Odalys to see that she had a curse worm. This kind of curse was not something ordinary people could see. It was nourished by the souls of those young girls. Some people raised demons, but she raised curse worms.
“You can’t nourish them now, so they are ready to move into your body. If you’re not careful, they will gnaw on your internal organs and eat you up.” Odalys said this, but Edie sneered.
“Don’t talk nonsense to me. You just want to divert my attention. What does this have to do with whether I am Percival’s biological mother? Do you really think you can do whatever you want after marrying into the Stewart family? Even if I am kicked out of the Stewart family, I am still Percival’s mother. If I die, do you think he will let you go? Men are all selfish. Just because he’s nice to you on the surface doesn’t mean he thinks the same way in his heart. If you dare to touch me, you won’t even know how you died.” Edie continued to drive a wedge between them. Odalys smiled instead of getting angry. She leaned into Edie’s ear and whispered, “How did you manage to do that? You didn’t give birth to him, but nobody suspected you? Did you brainwash everyone or did you switch him at birth? But under the noses of the Stewart family, you shouldn’t have that ability,” Odalys whispered.
Edie’s originally disdainful face suddenly collapsed. She looked at Odalys in disbelief and roared, “What nonsense are you talking about?”
“Is she talking nonsense? Don’t you know what’s going on?” Percival suddenly spoke.
Edie met his gaze and instantly felt her heart sink. Unsure whether Percival and Odalys were bluffing, or if they had known all along, Edie, who had always been calm, now panicked. She kept turning her head to look outside.
“You’re not his biological mother. Then where is she? But judging by how eager you are to get away from the Stewart family, it seems like you’re worried and afraid of something. Are you afraid of Percival’s revenge, or are you worried about Percival’s mother coming to find you? Let me think, how did you manage to convince everyone? Was it that bodyguard who followed you into the Stewart family? What was his name again? Nightmare?” Odalys said.
Hearing her mention Nightmare made Edie think about what happened that night. Edie froze, chills running from her feet up her body. She was terrified and quickly looked around.
“How do you know about Nightmare? Who told you?” Edie’s voice rose in panic. Besides herself, no one else seemed to know about this. No matter how capable Odalys was, she couldn’t possibly know about Nightmare. Edie stared at Odalys seriously.
Chapter 717
She wanted to see through Odalys, but she couldn’t. She couldn’t understand the emotions in Odalys’ eyes.
“Who told you?” Edie struggled to ask.
She struggled to her feet, and suddenly thought of something. She stared at Percival in fear, shaking her head and saying, “Percival, don’t listen to her nonsense. I’m your mother, your biological mother,” Edie explained anxiously. She had a bad feeling, overwhelming her like a tidal wave.
An ominous premonition washed over her, overwhelming her like a tidal wave. She thought of the forces she had recommended, inexplicably suppressed.
Before the posthumous marriage was fully arranged, the police sealed off her villa, and Elias, who had been helping her, was arrested. Now the police were watching her every move. Without young girls offering their souls, the curse worms in her body wanted to eat her. She had a vague feeling that Percival was behind all this.
She knew even more clearly that the police were watching, perhaps not only her but more likely the Simpson family. She could only hold on and try to calm down. She couldn’t even contact those people with special astrological signs. The only one she could be certain of was Francis, but he was always by Odalys’ side, leaving her with no opportunity to strike.
Since Percival and Odalys got married, the Stewart family had undergone a complete transformation. She wanted nothing more than to kill them all, but she didn’t dare to act rashly. “Percival, I raised you since you were a baby. If I’m not your mother, then who am I?” Edie forced a smile. She looked at Percival, her eyes filled with longing.
Percival looked down at her, and after a long silence, he said, “Do you think I haven’t done a paternity test?” Edie was shocked.
She swayed, looking at Percival in fear, wondering when he had done the paternity test. She remembered that she rarely interacted with him, and to minimize contact, she rarely returned to the Stewart family.
“If you were my biological mother, do you think I would kick you out of the Stewart family? If you were really my mother, why did I turn against you when you married Henry? Also, if you were my mother, why would I have the police seal off your villa in the suburbs?” Percival asked calmly. His words made Edie feel suffocated.
She couldn’t accept the answer that Percival had given her. She was never afraid of the Stewart family when she did those dirty things because she was Percival’s mother.
“Do you think those training programs disappear for no reason? Do you think the police investigate you for no reason? When you secretly targeted Freya, you should have considered whether I would let you off. How dare you still be so bold?
Do you think we are easy to deal with? Freya was adopted by my father, but you tried to hurt her again and again. Do you think we are blind? And did you think that Freya was kicked out of the Stewart family because of you? You really took my grandfather and me as tools for you to use? Letting a little girl move out of the Stewart family and fend for herself? If we weren’t guarding against you, why would we let Freya Winslow leave the Stewart family?” Percival’s voice was terrifyingly low.
Every word he said stabbed straight into Edie’s heart. She thought she had covered her tracks perfectly, but she didn’t expect the Stewart family to be watching her all along. At this moment, Edie felt an unprecedented fear. Thinking of the things she had done before, she panicked.
“How is that possible? How could you possibly suspect me? Percival, stop joking around with me, okay?” Edie forced a laugh. Her words tumbled out in a low murmur. The arrogance and pride she had displayed earlier were gone now. She took half a step forward, wanting to grab Percival’s hand, but his gaze stopped her in her tracks.
“We, the Stewart family, never joke around. Do you think my grandfather is old and useless, that you can manipulate him? Or do you and Hannah think you’re so charming that you can use him to get ahead?”
“You want to take over the entire Stewart family, don’t you? You not only want to get part of the family assets with the kid, right?” Percival continued.
At this moment, Edie just wanted to flee. She wanted to run, but her feet felt as if they were nailed to the spot.
“So you’ve been plotting against me this whole time?” Edie asked while gritting her teeth.
Percival’s eyes turned even colder. He looked at her indifferently, then suddenly reached out and pressed his fingertip against Edie’s forehead. Edie instinctively wanted to back away.
“Ah!” Edie screamed. She felt the curse worms in her body suddenly surging, trying to break out. Those curse worms, as if sensing the summoning of the negative curse worm, were excitedly trying to wake up. Fear flashed across Edie’s eyes. “No, don’t.” Edie stepped back in a panic. She fell on her buttocks. Percival withdrew his fingertip. She touched her forehead, feeling all the curse worms rushing towards her head. Once the curse worms occupied her head, she would surely die. Edie only now looked Percival in the eye. She found him looking down at her with indifference, his eyes as cold as if he were looking at a stranger.
At this moment, Edie realized that the capital she had used to be arrogant in front of him was gone. What was even more ridiculous was that the Stewart family had always regarded her as a jumping clown. She didn’t know whether to feel sad or hateful.
“Percival, you have no heart! I raised you, but why do you suspect me and even want to hurt me now?” Edie roared angrily.
Percival looked down at her and said word by word, “You raised me? Since I was born, my father raised me. After my father’s accident, I survived with my grandfather’s protection. You’ve always wanted me dead, haven’t you? Have you ever held me once? Or touched me? If not, how can you say you raised me? You’re worse to me than the servants in the Stewart family. The Stewart family has raised you for so long, even letting you use the Stewart family’s resources to support the Simpson family. Do you know the reason why we do this?” Percival suddenly said profoundly.
Edie’s face instantly lost its color. Her pupils dilated and she looked up in disbelief.
Percival slowly turned around, took Odalys’s hand, and said, “Odalys, let’s go home.”
“Okay.” Odalys smiled from ear to ear.
It was the first time she had seen Percival confront someone. She didn’t expect him to be so harsh with his words, each sentence hitting Edie’s sore spot, leaving Edie with no room to retort.
Chapter 718
When she turned around, she caught sight of the upstairs. Hannah’s face turned pale as she looked at Percival, while inside the study, Windsor could be vaguely seen opening the door and looking out. They must have heard what Percival had said.
“Windsor saw it,” Odalys said.
Others couldn’t tell what Percival was doing when he raised his hand to Edie’s forehead just now, but Windsor definitely could.
The negative curse worm had entered Percival’s body and merged with him. This curse worm was the king of all curse worms.
Edie also nurtured a curse worm, so the curse worm within her had always been suppressed, in a dormant state. Percival had just undoubtedly forcibly awakened the curse worm within her. As a result, Edie was now only able to fend for herself.
“I wanted him to see it,” Percival said.
After Windsor returned to normal, he would desperately try to get the negative curse worm back, which meant that he and Morpheus were on the same path and that Windsor was part of Morpheus’ plan. In this way, once Windsor discovered that Percival had the negative curse worm, Windsor would try to get rid of the thing occupying his body.
When Percival thought of this, his footsteps became heavier. “Don’t frown. You’ll get wrinkles.” Odalys glanced at him.
Sure enough, reminded by her, Percival’s expression softened.
He was a few years older than her, and he was worried that she would dislike him. Now that he heard her talking about wrinkles, Percival instantly calmed down and regained his senses, putting other matters aside. He held her hand, refusing to let go.
“Percival.” At this moment, Henry’s voice came from behind. As if he had been running to catch up, Percival and Odalys didn’t turn around, but stopped and stood there.
Henry was in a mess, panting. He stood just two steps away from them and said, “Don’t worry. I will divorce Edie.”
“I will divorce her immediately and kick her out. What Edie did has nothing to do with me.” Henry immediately wanted to clear the relationship. The mockery in Odalys’ eyes was clear to see.
She looked back at the greed in Henry’s eyes, raised her eyebrows and said, “Not everything can be erased just by distancing yourself from it. We all know what you were thinking before.” Henry’s face sank as he stood there, his hands unconsciously tugging at the corner of his clothes. He saw the irreversible decline of the Bennett family more clearly than anyone else.
Windsor never intended to revive the Bennett Group. He kept his eyes on Sophia, trying to bind her to him. Hannah didn’t care about the Bennett Group either. Ironically, out of all the Bennetts, no one thought about reviving the Bennett family. Everyone had their own schemes, but they never considered putting in the effort or trying harder.
“If you think that currying favor with the Simpsons will bring the Bennetts back from the dead,” Odalys said, her smile cold, making Henry’s heart clench. To say he wasn’t panicked would be a lie. She didn’t continue speaking but walked outside.
After Percival got in the car with her, Odalys rested her head against the window, gazing at the dazzling sunlight outside. Even though dusk was approaching, the sunlight today was exceptionally harsh.
“I set up a formation in the Bennett Villa just now,” Odalys said. That was one of the reasons why she came back to the Bennett Villa.
It was true that she wanted to attack Edie, but this time, she needed to see what the Bennett family was hiding that made these people side with the Bennetts without hesitation. Even though the Bennetts went bankrupt, these people still didn’t give up.
Then the only possibility was that the Bennetts were hiding the key to activate everything. What was that key? Odalys still couldn’t figure it out. She had lived in the Bennett Villa for so long.
She had been coming back frequently recently, but she hadn’t found anything special.
“What are you thinking about?” Percival looked at her, lost in thought, her face full of confusion, and couldn’t help but ask with heartache.
Hearing this, Odalys looked out the window without blinking and muttered, “I’m wondering what the Bennett’s place has that makes so many people want to live in.”
“That old man came in to take advantage of Hannah. He thought that the wicked energy in the Bennett Villa was strong enough to help him get everything for Caspian. What do Oliver and Edie want? Henry married Edie to take advantage of the Simpson family’s power.”
“But what is Edie after? Does she simply want to use him to get away from the Stewart family? Besides, she and Hannah had a falling out. If they live together, they will only feel irritated, but she still refuses to leave the Bennett family. So, Oliver and Edie should have the same goal,” Odalys said.
When she said this, she seemed to think of something else.
“And Hannah, in order to win over Windsor’s heart, did not hesitate to drug him to get into power. She has been sticking to the Bennett’s place. I think maybe we should let the hospital relax their vigilance later and release Oliver.”
“Let’s see if Oliver, who is now desperate, will return to the Bennett family,” Odalys said.
Percival was slightly surprised. Her idea coincided with his.
“I have the same idea,” Percival said.
Therefore, when Orson left just now, he instructed him to ask everyone in the hospital to pretend to be too tired and relax their vigilance at night so that Oliver could leave. Oliver Carline Oliver was locked in the hospital for days. He didn’t even know that Caspian and Brandon were caught.
“Seems like we have a connection.” Odalys teased him with a smile.
Odalys didn’t know why, but she felt much more relaxed with Percival by his side.
“Guess we are born to be a couple.” Percival smiled. Odalys could tell that he was happy. She also smiled. She tilted her head to look at him. She found that he looked in better spirits. She wondered whether the negative curse worm was so powerful. Would it control him after he merged with it? Odalys didn’t know. She hid the worry in her eyes. She held his chin and said, “Mr. Stewart, send me home, or the food at home will get cold.”
Hearing this, he looked at his watch. It was already past five in the afternoon. Percival hurriedly put down his hand, holding her fingertips that were cupping his chin, and gently rubbed them. “How about we eat out tonight?”
“That’s not possible. Grandpa must have prepared dinner at home. He went to the Tillery’s
place today, so he must have something important to discuss. Besides, the century-old tree at home was struck by lightning. Grandpa must be worried about your father. We can’t just leave him alone at home.” Odalys said softly.
Percival was silent as he listened.
Chapter 719
”He had almost forgotten that the century-old tree at home had been struck by lightning, and the mud he had brought back was from that spot. That was where his father’s soul had appeared before, by the century-old tree.
“Thinking of this, Percival felt a kind of feeling of tightness in his chest.
“Let’s go home then,” Percival said.
“He started the car and drove Odalys toward the Stewart family, leaving Henry standing alone, watching their figures disappear. Henry felt an intense reluctance to accept this.
“Why didn’t anyone give me a hand? Who am I even working so hard for?” Henry muttered through gritted teeth.
“He had believed that by being kind to Odalys and Percival, they would eventually help him.
“But to his surprise, neither Percival nor Odalys had given him a second thought. Henry felt a deep sense of discomfort and resentment, but there was nothing he could do about it.
“Henry.” Just then, he faintly heard a voice calling his name.
“Henry froze. He turned his head mechanically, feeling dizzy and disoriented. He tried to shake off the confusion, but it only deepened.
“Come here,” The voice called again.
“Henry lifted his foot and started walking toward the Bennett Villa, as though leaving all his previous emotions behind.
“In the darkness, inside the car.
“Callum watched this scene, his eyes narrowing. He took out his phone to record a video, but his hand froze as he watched Henry’s figure, disbelief creeping across his face. His expression grew darker by the second.
“A vague sense that someone was watching him made Callum quickly put his phone away. He drove off in the direction of the Stewart Villa as if he were fleeing-like a ghost was chasing him. “In the Bennett Villa.
“The atmosphere was heavy with tension. Hannah stood upstairs, watching Edie struggle to rise from the ground.
“It seems Percival wants you dead,” Hannah said indifferently.
“Edie ignored her and walked out hastily.
“Hannah raised her hand, inspecting her nails painted with polish. She was about to turn and head back to her room when she met Windsor’s dark, brooding eyes.
“What are you doing?” Hannah snapped.
“Windsor remained silent, staring at her with a look that seemed to penetrate her very soul, as if trying to see through her.
“As Hannah turned to leave, Windsor suddenly spoke, “You drugged me, married me, and took on the identity of my wife. You want the Bennett family’s fortune, don’t you?”
With a bang, Hannah slammed into the door.
“Her face drained of color, and she looked back at Windsor in shock.
But she found that after he finished speaking, he closed the study door without even looking at her.
“Hannah’s hand, still gripping the door, stiffened. She stared at the study, her teeth clenched as she muttered to herself, “Windsor isn’t in his right mind. He can’t possibly know all this.” “I must be overthinking it. He’s probably just bluffing.” Hannah swallowed nervously.
“She slammed the door shut, intending to undress and take a shower. But when she entered her room, she froze. Sophia was sitting on the edge of her bed, leaning back, her gaze fixed on her.
“Hannah’s face instantly turned pale.
“What are you doing in my room? Don’t tell me you’re still thinking about seducing Windsor in my bed?” Hannah snapped. “Sophia, I’m warning you-if you touch my things again, I’ll kick you out of the Bennett family.”
“Sophia’s smile deepened.
“Leaning against the headboard, her beautiful eyes glinted with amusement as she studied Hannah. After a moment, she spoke, “Why? Did you adopt me just to kick me out?”
“Kick me out? Would you even let me?” Sophia’s voice dropped to a chilling whisper. “Mom.” The word “Mom” sent a chill down Hannah’s spine.
“It was a strange, unsettling mix of a child’s voice and an elderly rasp. Her laughter echoed eerily in the room.
“Wh-what do you want?” Hannah stammered. Her voice trembled, panic creeping into her eyes. “Before you ask who I am, why don’t you take a look at what you’re keeping?” Sophia said softly. “She slowly got out of bed and stood in front of Hannah, her fingertips lightly grazing Hannah’s shoulders before she moved behind her, wrapping her arms gently around her.
Gently, Sophia embraced Hannah from behind, holding her steady and tilting her head to look forward.
“Hannah’s eyes widened as she stared at the contents of the cabinet, and everything seemed to crash down in an instant.
“Inside, two jet-black wooden puppets and a thurible had fallen, shattered pieces scattered across the floor.
“Ah, Sophia, what have you done?” Hannah cried, almost delirious.
“She shoved Sophia away and rushed forward, scooping up the puppets. As she examined them, she noticed several knife marks carved into the wooden puppets, smeared with lipstick. “Panicked, Hannah grabbed a tissue to wipe away the marks, but they wouldn’t come off.
“Mom, what are these?” Sophia asked softly.” They look strange… Wait, you’re not cursing someone with them, are you?”
“Sophia’s fingertip rested on one of the puppets, her voice playful. “Don’t look at me like that. I’m just curious. You burn incense all day, and Brandon was always holed up in your room too. I suspected something was going on between you two. Now that Dad’s back, I wanted to clear things up, so I was looking around.”
“And then I found this. Why does this puppet look exactly like a person? Seriously, you’re not learning some strange thing in Thoeyae and cursing someone, are you?”
“Every word pierced Hannah’s ears like a knife. “In a frenzy, Hannah lunged at Sophia, knocking her onto the bed. She grabbed Sophia by the neck and hissed, “Sophia, I’m going to kill you.”
“I’m going to kill you, you bitch! Why did you touch my things? Die! Just die!” Hannah screamed.
“She no longer cared about the consequences. All she wanted was to kill Sophia.
“As Sophia’s throat was constricted, she remained calm, a hidden smile playing on her lips. She even met Hannah’s glare with quiet provocation.
“Their eyes locked, and Hannah’s chest seemed to explode with fury at the defiant look in Sophia’s eyes.
“Argh!” she growled, but finally released Sophia. “Hannah collapsed, clutching the puppets as tears streamed down her face. No matter how much she wiped her eyes, the tears wouldn’t stop. Sophia, on the other hand, watched her with an amused smirk.
“Come on! They’re just puppets. You can get a new one if they’re broken,” Sophia said casually. “Hannah found her words increasingly unsettling. “Desperately, Hannah looked down at the puppets in her arms. The bloodstains had disappeared, as though the back of the doll had been hollowed out. She stared at Sophia in disbelief.
“Shh, don’t look at me like that,” Sophia whispered.
Chapter 720
She got out of bed, sat down leisurely, rested her chin on her hand, and said meaningfully, “I heard there are several ways to deal with a devil. One of them is to sacrifice the soul of an aborted fetus and bind it into a puppet.”
“The other is to sacrifice the soul of a child you gave birth to but don’t want,” Sophia whispered. “She poked the two puppets with her fingertips and added, “Don’t tell me the souls you sacrificed and locked in these puppets are your own children? No wonder you’re so angry-you look as if you’ve lost your own son.”
“You-” Hannah was so enraged her chest heaved with fury.
“She glared at Sophia, her eyes filled with hatred, wishing she could strike her down immediately. “When you adopted me all those years ago, was it just so you could use my luck to raise these two?” Sophia asked in a wicked tone.
“It was as if she knew everything, yet somehow appeared clueless all the same.
“Sophia blinked her innocent, watery eyes and locked gazes with Hannah.
“So you seduced Windsor on purpose, didn’t you?” Hannah seethed.
“Sophia smiled but didn’t reply. She stared at Hannah for a moment before knocking the puppets from her hand, stepping on them, and grinding them beneath her heel. “Right,” she said.
“How else could I have come between you two? Only by tearing you two apart could I weaken the curse you’ve placed on me.
And I would’ve gotten even more popular, but unfortunately, Odalys came back and ruined my plan. Her luck is suffocating.” Sophia grinned, her smile wide and wicked.
“Hannah held her breath, her anger building.
“You were pretending to be clueless, trying to trick me into giving you some Love Spells, weren’t you? You wanted to burn them for these puppets, so they could absorb my luck.” Sophia’s voice was low and mocking.
“Too bad the Love Spell I gave you last time was fake. Otherwise, how could you be so unlucky?” she whispered.
“Each word was like a death knell to Hannah. “Sophia spoke with a smile, no trace of guilt in her tone, as if it were all some elaborate joke. “It was you! You’re behind all this, aren’t you?” Hannah said furiously.
“Sophia shook her head, then reached out and pressed her fingertip to Hannah’s lips. “No, no, no. This isn’t some scheme of mine. It’s because Odalys is gone. Odalys’ presence was too strong. She was suffocating me. After her wedding, she took back the necklace you were wearing. Now you have nothing left to protect you, and your luck is all gone.”
“The longer Odalys stays gone, the worse your luck will get, won’t it?” Sophia said, her voice dripping with satisfaction.
Hannah’s lips trembled as she stared at Sophia in disbelief.
“She had always doted on Sophia, never imagining that Sophia knew everything all along and had secretly pushed Odalys away. Why would she do such a thing?
“Why are you doing this to me, Sophia? I’ve never treated you badly,” Hannah said, her voice filled with despair.
Sophia chuckled coldly.
“She picked up a comb and gently ran it through her long hair. Finding a few split ends, she casually pulled them out.
“How is this hurting you? I’m helping you. The Stewart family wanted me to be the bride for the marriage ceremony. Who wouldn’t want the Stewart family’s vast fortune? But marrying into the Stewart family was like a death sentence at that time,” she said. “But I never expected Odalys’ luck to be so strong that she could withstand the dead energy and make the Stewart family put her first in everything. How could I not hate her?”
“She then added, “If I’d married into the Stewart family and used her to block the family’s dead energy, I’d be the one basking in glory now, wouldn’t I? It’s a shame none of you thought about me. All you wanted was to use me for the variety show money. You never considered ruining Odalys’ reputation and letting me replace her. All of you in the Bennett family are ungrateful, selfish creatures. When Odalys targeted me, when Percival looked down on me, which one of you stood by my side? Which one of you supported me? You’re the one who wanted to live-stream and exposed my relationship with the magician. You’re the one who ruined my reputation.”
“My reputation is destroyed, but you’ve been untouched. How can that be? That’s why I want to call out your dear puppets and play with them,” Sophia said with a twisted smile.
“She suddenly extended her hand, cut her fingertip, and let a drop of blood fall onto the puppets.
“No!” Hannah gasped, startled.
“She reached out, wanting to wipe it away, but Sophia’s blood had already seeped into the puppets, and no matter how hard she tried, it wouldn’t come off.
“Sophia, are you insane? They’re mine!” Hannah shouted angrily.
“She tried to clean it, but the blood had been absorbed, and no amount of scrubbing would remove it.
“Hannah collapsed to the ground, utterly defeated. Just moments ago, she had been upstairs, laughing at Edie, unaware that an even greater nightmare was waiting for her in this room.
“In that moment, she couldn’t help but regret ever raising Sophia.
“What do you mean yours? This is all mine!” Sophia snapped.
She lifted Hannah’s chin, squeezing it hard. “You raised me because you wanted to use me, didn’t you? Otherwise, how has the Bennett family remained so prosperous all these years? Didn’t all your past glory and wealth depend on me?” “Didn’t you do this to drain my luck, which is why I felt suffocated when Odalys came back? This is all your fault.” The more Sophia spoke, the more unhinged she became.
At this point, she cared about nothing else.
She couldn’t kill anyone-it was Odalys who had caused all of this.
“Now, she wanted to pin everything on Odalys. Since Hannah hadn’t developed murderous intent toward Odalys yet, Sophia would make sure everyone hated Odalys even more.
“Before Odalys returned, you were the glamorous Hannah, and the Bennett Group was thriving. It was her return that caused our downfall. But she was different. After Odalys married into the Stewart family, she was adored by everyone. Her skill at star readings even made her a goddess in Crownridge. When Freya hit you, no one stood up for you. You were covered in bruises, and the police took you to the hospital-but they wouldn’t even let you stay. They just dumped you back home,” Sophia said.
“What is this? This is the price you pay for trying to suppress Odalys. I’m just using your puppets to get what I want.
What are you so worried about?” Sophia whispered, pressing Hannah’s hand against the puppets and rubbing them. “Look at them. Aren’t they amazing? Do you want another one?” she continued. “I heard that if you have three, you can form an army, but they all have to be your biological children. These two are yours-why not have another?”
Sophia’s words echoed in Hannah’s mind.
“Hannah stared at Sophia’s face, realizing it was deformed. Her once-beautiful, smooth skin was now sallow, and she looked several years older- like a middle-aged woman.
Hannah couldn’t help but think back to before they filmed the variety show. Sophia had looked like this in her bedroom, too.
