Betrayed, Yet Bound To The Billionaire by Grace Madeline (Chapters 671 to 680)

Chapter 671

“He hadn’t anticipated Odalys’s cunning. It seemed no one could escape her grasp, just like during the variety show recording when she’d set her sights on him and manipulated the situation so he’d end up in Crownridge.

“She had lulled him into a false sense of security, making him believe she had fallen for his trap. Little did he know, he had been caught in her web all along.

“Caspian’s eyes widened. “We’re bound together?” He’d assumed, after his leg was broken, that she wanted him to experience the same tragic end as that man, to suffer revenge for his death. He never expected her to tie him to Brandon. “Yes! She’s coming for us, not to get revenge or anything. She’s…” Brandon’s words trailed off as a horrifying thought struck him, and he glanced back down at Caspian’s body.
“What is it?” Odalys asked.

“Brandon looked up, startled by Odalys standing leisurely before them, a smile gracing her lips. Caspian, too, was taken aback by her unexpected arrival.

“Odalys, I was wrong! Please forgive me! He made me do it. I was young and naive. I didn’t know any better.” Caspian panicked, trying to get up despite his broken leg.

“Odalys stared at him like a clown, crouching down to peer at him across the iron bars. She couldn’t help but laugh.

“She pointed at Caspian. “Does it feel like you have ants crawling all over your skin, biting you, but you can’t tell precisely where?”

“She continued, “You want to scratch, but your whole body is so itchy, it feels like something is crawling under your skin.”

“Her words only made things worse. Caspian’s face tightened, his skin suddenly prickling with discomfort. He started to scratch, but Brandon stopped him.

“Odalys, what are you trying to achieve? Do you think making a fool of yourself will win you favor with the Stewart family?” Brandon stared at her, then looked pointedly at Percival standing behind her.

“Upon finishing his statement, Percival remained impassive. Brandon considered further provocation, but Odalys’s chilling look stopped him.

“You aim to manipulate the heads of eight wealthy families in Crownridge by exploiting their belief in wicked energy and ancestral influence, explicitly targeting those families known for their good fortune.
“Your family shamelessly profited from others, assuming they could replace them! While they may have believed they could do so discreetly, I never expected that after Windsor was restored, I’d need to transfer the items from him to Caspian,” Odalys said.

“This would catch you off guard. When you thought you could switch them back, you’d realize Windsor was beyond saving. In your desperation, you’d want Caspian to come to me because he carries my scent-the scent you crave. That was your plan to trap me,” Odalys continued.

“With each word she spoke, Brandon’s face grew a shade paler.

“Your power wasn’t strong enough-it only tore a small rift. That’s how Caspian got dragged down with me. You never thought I’d make it back,” Odalys said.

“Brandon’s cloudy eyes drifted out of focus as if he were looking past Odalys at something only he could see.
“As Brandon hesitated, Odalys took his hand, pulled the ring from her bag, and firmly slid it onto his finger, sending a chill through him. “Startled, Brandon jumped back, instinctively trying to remove the emerald-like ring from his finger as he exclaimed, “What is this?”

“The instant his hand made contact with the ring, a searing pain caused him to recoil in fear, leaving behind a bright red burn and a fragment of skin on its surface.

“I promised you I’d avenge you,” Odalys said to the ring. Her words took Brandon aback.

“The ring pulsed with red light, nearly engulfing Brandon and Caspian before a tall figure materialized nearby. Clad in armor and bearing a bloodstained face, the man glared at them.

“Is it him?” asked Odalys. Standing in the corner watching Brandon and Caspian, the young general walked towards them.

“Who is he?” Caspian was terrified. He wanted to retreat, but his broken leg wouldn’t let him move. “Brandon, immobile, too. He could only watch as the young general approached, his feet not touching the ground. “He’s dead,” Brandon whispered, “a ghost, dead for millennia. The stench of death; he murdered countless souls! Pure evil.” A hint of worry crossed his mind.

“The general, eyes blazing with hatred, roared, Get out here and face your death!”
“
“Caspian and Brandon felt chilled as his sharp sword whistled through the air toward them, like thousands of icy needles piercing their skin. Though unharmed, their bodies instantly tensed as if fighting off an unseen force.

“Caspian and Brandon cried out in agony, collapsing to the ground as if their very souls were being ripped apart. An invisible figure tore free from their bodies, making Caspian scream in terror.

“What is that thing? Why did it come out of me?” Caspian cried out in horror.

“The disembodied figure cut a frail form, a sword held to its throat as the general fixed his gaze upon it. “It’s him,” the general declared, his eyes sharp. After scrutinizing the figure, he turned his attention to Odalys.

“Odalys observed the scene and asked, “What’s the connection between the ancestor trapped in the illusion and their desire to replace Francis?” “Father and son,” the general said.

“Odalys touched her chin, nodded slightly, and thought, ‘So that’s why the ring didn’t overreact when Francis was almost replaced-it wasn’t him!’

“Why did you murder my entire family?” the general demanded, his voice sharp.

“Forced back half a step, the figure smiled faintly. “What would it matter if I killed your family? You’re just a general-death on the battlefield is inevitable.

“You’re dead. I might as well have your whole family killed and buried with you – wouldn’t that be fitting? I hear generals kill so many people that their ghosts are powerful and vengeful. Your house will surely need that kind of protection.

“My family comes from a long line of tailors, and we aim to achieve global recognition for our craft! But tell me, how can you justify taking a life? You reside in this house, benefiting from the power gained by ending someone else’s life; that could also help me subdue spirits, right?”

“Your death will be a fitting one. You’ve slaughtered countless enemies, and your accomplishments have long eclipsed your master’s. I’m merely granting your entire family a more honorable end.”

Chapter 672

“The figure was utterly convinced he was right. He paused as if recalling something important, then added, “My only regret is that my life was cut short. Thankfully, my descendants found a way to preserve and sustain my soul.

“I have successfully inhabited a human body! Soon, I will be resurrected, and so will all my descendants,” he declared arrogantly, his contempt for the general growing.

“He sneered, his contempt evident as he regarded the general as something insignificant. “You’re nothing but a ghost haunting my home, yet you dare threaten me with a sword? Please go on, try to kill me!

“You can’t. Not even with Odalys’s help. You’re already reincarnated, with only your soul remaining, and you want revenge?”

“The general’s face contorted with rage at the soldier’s words. His body shook as he spat, “You disregard human life and then shirk responsibility for your wicked actions, expecting others to pay the price for you! Despicable!

“My entire family-hundreds of them-what was their crime? I’ve killed countless people, yes, but it was all for the greater good. How dare you question my motives?” The general’s anger was palpable, his chest heaving violently.

“The figure fixed him with a scornful glare. “Dead you are, nonetheless,” it sneered. “With a paltry three souls remaining, you have no right to spout such drivel. Once I possess a body, I will unearth your ancestors and scatter their ashes to the wind, ensuring you never cross my path again.”

“The enraged general charged, thrusting his sword directly at the figure. Unafraid and defiant, the figure met the general’s attack head-on, refusing to dodge.

“The figure scoffed. “What? A man with a mere three souls dares to kill me? You…” his arrogance turned to shock as the general’s sword pierced his body. He stared down in disbelief.

“As the sword pierced him, he felt a constant pulling sensation within his body. His expression shifted, and he stumbled backward, only to be stabbed again.

“You asked if you could kill me,” the general said, stabbing him again and again. “You’ve committed unspeakable atrocities, and even to death, you seek to enslave future generations with human sacrifices! People like you deserve nothing less than hell.”

“Each thrust found its mark, driving the figure back with every blow. Still reeling from his
overconfidence, the figure staggered, his form riddled with wounds. He wanted to shield himself but was unable, his energy steadily draining.

“How could you hurt me? I know you were forced to be reborn, leaving you with only three souls! You dare strike me? Absurd! A thousand years of my efforts…” The figure trembled, his words laced with fear. As if struck by a sudden thought, he glanced back at Odalys.

“Odalys waved generously to him, saying, “After a thousand years, is this all your power? Do you still want to harm people? Look at your descendants – one is getting old and causing trouble, while the other had their legs broken! Please don’t glare at me.

“If you’re looking for someone to blame, blame him for choosing Windsor! I put you back in Caspian’s body, hoping you’d absorb some of his luck. But wouldn’t that make him unlucky in the process?

“You used up all the good luck meant for your descendants, leaving yourself with nothing but bad luck. That’s your own doing, not mine. I refuse to take responsibility for this mess,” Odalys said with a smile, her words only fueling the figure’s anger.

“You can’t deny knowing he’s your descendant. But it puzzles me-your obsession with Francis’s body. The last one was the same, and I utterly crushed him, leaving only a sliver of consciousness. And now you’re back again. “Why can’t you so-called forefathers just stay dead? Why do you have to come back and harm people?” Odalys asked, raising her eyebrows.

“Hearing her question, the general stepped forward and kicked the figure to the ground. “My thanks to Odalys,” the general said gratefully. “If not for her protection, allowing my successful re -encounter and her tireless help in finding my enemy, I might have died unaware.”

“While Odalys appeared inactive, she was secretly searching for him. Although initially disheartened by sensing Brandon’s aura without locating the true enemy, the ring’s silence offered no clues. She briefly questioned her direction until Windsor reappeared.
*

“Impossible! How could a young woman in her twenties kill me?” The figure still refused to believe it. Even as death approached, he couldn’t accept it-if he died now, his soul would scatter, lost forever, with no hope of re-encounter. He was filled with denial and disbelief.

“There’s no shame in being twenty! She’s a force to be reckoned with-do you think she’s incapable of killing you? Besides, she has my sword now, and the talisman alone is powerful enough to kill you a hundred times over,” the general warned.

“As the figure’s eyes widened in fear, the general struck him down with his sword. The figure desperately wanted to explain and apologize, but he was not allowed. The general, known for his ruthlessness in battle, acted swiftly and decisively.

“As he slashed down with his sword, the figure before him gasped, eyes wide with shock. Their form flickered, turning transparent, before the general stepped forward and kicked the fading figure, banishing it entirely.
“Upon finishing, the general glanced at Odalys and flicked his wrist to say, “This ring is for you, and thank you.”

“The ring stuck on Brandon’s finger only moments before suddenly came free, flying through the air and landing in Odalys’s hand. The general sheathed his sword and stood at attention, hands clasped behind his back.

“The general’s gaze swept over Odalys before settling on Percival. “Ensure her safety,” he instructed.
“Percival’s lips barely moved as he replied, “Okay.”

“After he spoke, the general took half a step back, his form gradually fading into transparency. “Thank you for avenging me and for granting both of us freedom. Should there be another chance, I will repay this debt.” The general’s voice resonated within the cell even as he vanished.

“He left behind only the ring and no sentimental words. Although the general’s presence faded, his ever-changing life remained vividly displayed. “His bravery in battle, his near-death experience, his heroic stand for the people, and the tragic loss of his family stunned everyone. It was a heartbreaking scene, reflecting the general’s tragic life dedicated to the country, only to meet such an unfortunate end.

“Brandon and Caspian cried out, the vision fading along with the general. The sensation that followed was akin to being flayed alive.

Chapter 673

“The harrowing experience left them feeling decades older. Caspian, a few strands of his hair now gray, collapsed to the ground, the price he paid for having his fortune drained by his forefather. Brandon, already elderly, was now gaunt and frail.

“Oh, my forefather!” Brandon crawled toward him reluctantly, reaching out to grab hold but finding nothing.

“Your abilities were nothing more than your forefather’s gifts. Now that his soul is gone, let’s see what you can do.” Odalys spoke coldly.

Those who sought to harm others deserved no mercy.

“When Odalys reprimanded him, Brandon deflected the blame onto her. “Why are you interfering? Why did you hurt my forefather? It’s not like he killed your whole family, so why should you care?”
Their values seemed to be completely twisted. ” It’s only fair.” Odalys sneered. “He killed someone else’s entire family, so the general retaliated by killing your forefather. Besides, your forefather stole your family fortune-that’s your doing!”

“As she slowly rose to her feet, she slipped the ring onto her finger, surprised by its warmth. She hadn’t expected the general, in his final moments, to leave her with his dying breath.

“As she inhaled silently, the Kirin blood she had consumed coursed through her, its power mingling with her own to create a surge of energy beyond anything she could have imagined.

“She hadn’t anticipated inheriting a trace of his formidable presence, knowing a general like him possessed an aura capable of bolstering one’s energy – a gift more valuable than a decade of someone else’s good fortune. Yet, he bestowed it upon her nonetheless.

“He might have been reborn as a lucky star if he had kept it. Instead, he gave it up, transferring its energy to Odalys.

“Odalys felt a pang of sadness. She had helped him solely to find peace and justice, not for personal gain. Yet he offered no words, only his final breath-a gesture signifying he had entrusted her with his life’s purpose.

“Odalys,” he called, sensing her distress; Percival hurried to her side and gently put his arms around her, steadying her trembling body. “Odalys’s forced smile couldn’t hide the sadness in her eyes as she looked at Brandon and Caspian. “They made their choices,” she said, her tone cold. “Now they must face the consequences.”

“Panic seized Caspian as he watched Odalys turn to leave. “You can’t just leave me-I’m your brother!” he pleaded. “You’re a magic master, aren’t you? That man stole my luck, so I’m so unlucky now. You can’t leave me dying like this!” Caspian clung desperately to hope.

“Odalys didn’t look back. “You’re beyond saving,” she said. “If you were willing to sacrifice yourselves, you must accept the consequences. You shouldn’t have desired what belongs to others, especially the lives of their family.” “Caspian watched Odalys disappear in the distance. He turned, eyes filled with hate, and slapped Brandon hard. “Why would you come back just to hurt me? None of this would have happened if you hadn’t!” Caspian raged.

“Brandon reeled from the slap, disbelief coloring his voice. “But I did it for you! If Odalys hadn’t interfered, we would have succeeded.” He abruptly paused after speaking.

“He then said, “Odalys has been manipulating us from the start. She may have been uncertain initially, but my suspicions grew. Today, I had you mark her with your scent, hoping to trap her at the junction of energy-a place only accessible to the deceased or those with powerful energy fields.

“Neither of us possesses this ability, which allowed her to confirm that our ancestor is the one you learned about from Windsor.” Brandon was filled with regret.

“Had he known better, he wouldn’t have been so rushed. His haste led him right into Odalys’s trap. Given the chance, he would never have challenged Odalys directly, but sadly, there were no second chances.

“While in police custody, both he and Caspian sustained injuries. And, combined with the partial depletion of their luck, left him uncertain of what the future held.

“A flicker of confusion-and even helplessness- crossed Brandon’s face for the first time as he wondered, ‘Will anyone come to save me?’

“As Odalys walked out, the police officers remained silent. They escorted her out of the station before returning to their other cases.

“Freya pondered the information, saying, “So, Odalys, you’re saying the figure in Windsor is the forefather of Brandon and Caspian? Does that make Caspian Brandon’s grandson?”

Odalys nodded in response.

“You said they’d be forced back to Windsor’s body within 48 hours, but then that young general suddenly killed them? I don’t understand,” Freya said, her eyes full of confusion and doubt.

“If I hadn’t said that, would Caspian and Brandon be in such a rush? They only had 48 hours, so after 24, they couldn’t bear to wait any longer,” Odalys explained.

“Freya fell silent, surprised by the number of tricks and Odalys’s apparent ability to understand them.
“Is that young general back?” Stellan asked. He still hadn’t moved past his tragic fate. Seeing the hatred in the general’s eyes made Stellan uneasy. It reminded him of how fortunate they were to live in modern times, enjoying peace and prosperity. No war, only prosperity.

“Yes,” Odalys said.

“Orson hesitantly raised his hand. “Did Brandon’s forefather take some of Caspian’s and Brandon’s fortune before he died? Could the forefather come back to life?” he asked, a note of worry in his voice.

“After all, the fortunate ones are still breathing. If they suffocate, survival will be impossible. “It’s over. His death extinguished him like a flame, and he’s been gone for years. Taking advantage of others’ misfortune only delays the inevitable. Still, we must investigate his family. Ambitious, he may have left something behind that could harm us.”

“Percival gave a slight nod. “I’d asked Callum to investigate earlier. He found some leads, so we should have answers soon.”

“Okay,” Odalys responded.

“Late at night, they were still outside the police station. Francis was a little anxious. “Is there any way to find Selah?” he asked.

“Yes. What about Selah?” Freya asked, her voice edged with panic.

“Selah vanished without a trace, but their focus shifted to dealing with Brandon and Caspian. They had defeated their forefathers so thoroughly that their souls were scattered, finally allowing the young general to rest in peace. Yet, Selah had not returned.

Chapter 674

“The mention of Selah filled their hearts with worry, and they turned to Odalys with concern, wishing they could do something to help.

“Selah is safe. She must have fallen through a junction of energy-like the seams between realms I mentioned-and Caspian used that to his advantage. Taking her hostage was his last resort to threaten me, but he didn’t expect me to show up and dismantle his entire plan,” Odalys said.

“As she finished speaking, the little snake suddenly emerged from her bag, startling everyone with lightning-fast movements and causing them to step back in alarm.

“The snake disappeared into the corner’s shadows, only to reappear, dragging something behind it. Gasps filled the air as they realized Selah was pulled by her leg. The snake lashed its tail when she was free, striking her hard on the bum.

“Ouch!” Selah cried out, clutching her bum as she landed sprawled. Confused, she saw Odalys, Freya, and the others standing over her with crossed arms.

“Ouch!” Selah muttered, scrambling to her feet. ” What happened? Did I trip?”

“Selah jumped back in fright when she saw the little snake lying flat on the ground, head raised, staring at her. “Did you bite me?” she demanded, pointing at it.

“The little snake, aimed at Selah’s finger, struck again, biting her bum. The tingling returned, and Selah froze.

“This snake is so mean! It bit me twice!” Selah laughed in disbelief as the snake turned and slithered into Odalys’s canvas bag.

“Selah watched it vanish, then glanced around in confusion. “Hold on, weren’t we at Film Capital? I was about to get in the car, but I tripped and blacked out.” She was now outside a police station, and thinking it didn’t make sense. “Are you hungry?” Odalys asked. Come on, let’s get some dinner, my treat.” Selah glanced at Freya and Francis, confused. She felt like a piece of her memory was missing, leaving her unsure how she’d ended up in this situation.

“Don’t worry about it! It’s my treat today. You and Percival should go ahead if you have plans.” Freya quickly interjected.

“Freya gently nudged Odalys and Percival apart. I apologize for interrupting your date,” she said sincerely. “Please, carry on. We’ll leave you two alone to enjoy yourselves.” She opened the car door for Percival and ushered Odalys into the passenger seat.

“Are you kicking us out after we helped you?” Odalys joked, rolling down the car window. “Freya waved and said with a light laugh, “Of course not! I don’t want to disturb your date. Thanks again for what you did, Odalys.”

“Odalys looked at Freya, shaking her head. She fastened her seatbelt as Percival returned to the driver’s seat. He asked, “Shall we continue the movie?”

“Let’s go home,” Odalys said, no longer interested in the movie after the interruption.

“Okay,” Percival said little; they just started the car and turned around. Leaving Freya in a cloud of exhaust fumes, he drove Odalys back to Stewart Villa.

“What? That’s fierce.” Freya coughed, turning away. ‘Could he be upset that I interrupted their date?’ she wondered. There was a touch of amusement in her thoughts as she continued coughing.

“Selah rushed to Freya’s side and asked with concern, “Are you alright?”

“I’m fine.” Freya grinned, the thought of Odalys and Percival on a date bringing her immense joy. Percival on a date was a rare sight, and picturing the usually serious head of the Stewart family trying to impress a woman brought a mischievous, almost smitten, smile to Freya’s face.

“What’s so funny?” Selah asked, her face serious. “Freya covered her mouth, laughing. “What else can I do but laugh? You won’t believe what Percival has planned for tonight! He rented out the entire cinema and covered it in rose petals!”

“Freya giggled as she continued, “The cinema ceiling was lit like a starry sky, with fireworks and everything! And then we interrupted his date! It’s good he didn’t want us dead; we would have been done for!”
“Selah fell silent. “I feel like fainting was a blessing in disguise; otherwise, I might have been killed. It’s a curse to ruin someone’s date,” she said.

“While Orson listened thoughtfully, stroking his chin, Stellan curiously asked, “What’s on your mind?”
“Orson asked, “With Brandon and Caspian arrested, will the Bennett family be pressed for time now?”
“Stellan was surprised by the question. “The imposter even killed Caspian; why would they be worried? Besides, Brandon had ulterior motives for keeping the imposter within the Bennett family for so long.
“And don’t forget, he tried to hurt Windsor before. It goes beyond simple hatred,” Stellan explained. Most people wouldn’t feel anxious.

“Orson pointed forward. “Look who’s here.”

“A Mercedes-Benz screeched to a halt across from the police station, and Hannah jumped out, hurrying towards the entrance. She seemed oblivious to Orson and the others in the corner, her focus entirely elsewhere.
“Officer,” Hannah said anxiously, “I think there might be a misunderstanding about Bennett’s family case.”

“As Hannah stopped the officers at the station gate, they looked at her confusedly. “What’s the matter?” they asked.

“How could Caspian have broken a teenager’s leg when he was just a child? I suspect Odalys is trying to cause problems and intentionally damage the Bennett family’s relationships.” “Hannah anxiously explained, “Odalys must have planted that body. She wants to frame Caspian, so she deliberately slanders him and makes him unwelcome in the family. But what evil could Brandon possibly do at his age?”

“The police officers’ expressions were odd as they looked at her. “Why are you looking at me like that? It is outrageous! Something strange is happening,” Hannah insisted.

The officers stared intently at her. Finally, one spoke, his voice full of disbelief. “The identification results show that the dead boy is your biological son. Are you trying to deny this now and insist that the imposter is your biological son?”

“They thought Hannah’s idea was absurd, believing she must be out of her mind to suggest such a thing.

Chapter 675

“Hannah trembled with anger. “I want to call the police,” she declared. “I suspect Odalys has cursed the Bennett family. How else would a dead body end up in my room? And how else could my son be an imposter? Besides, Brandon is my guest. He’s innocent.”

“The police officer’s expression turned cold as he looked at her, his demeanor noticeably shifting when she began slandering Odalys. “Ms. Morgan, I must caution you against making such accusations. False accusations can have serious consequences, including legal action and even detention,” the officer stated firmly. “That idea was illogical. Statements made by Hannah should be regarded as lacking credibility. “Hannah hesitated, wanting to say more. A thought struck the police officer. “Yesterday,” he said, “Elias Whitlock’s villa in the East District was sealed off. Your fake son, Caspian, was seen there before that. He drove the Bennett family car to the villa, and your other children were there too.”

“He added, “There’s no need to turn yourself in yet. We’re investigating his possible involvement and will contact you with questions if necessary. You can wait at the station if you prefer not to return to the villa.”

“Hannah was terrified to hear that Caspian was

involved in the incident. Despite the Bennett family’s chaotic nature, she vividly remembered the incident, a horrifying case involving the trafficking and abduction of young girls that resulted in multiple deaths and the arrest of the girl’s parents.

“Maybe I’m remembering it wrong,” Hannah said, her voice faltering.

“Without another word, Hannah turned to leave but stopped short. Henry and Atlas were catching up, watching her from a distance. “Why are you following me?” Hannah demanded angrily.

“Atlas and Henry exchanged glances before striding toward Hannah, grabbing her forcefully and dragging her into the car. “What are you doing?” she cried. “Let me go!”

“Atlas, I am your mother,” Hannah said, her voice strained with emotion.

“Henry slammed the car door, his chest heaving with anger. “Hannah, enough is enough!” Henry roared. “Don’t you think the Bennett family is chaotic enough without this? Your trial starts tomorrow, and if you’re found guilty of abandonment, you’re going to jail!”

“Hannah froze, stunned at the accusation of abandonment. Her eyes clouded with confusion, and she struggled to process the news. “Odalys is suing me?” she finally exclaimed, incredulous. ” What gives her the right? Is she serious?”

“Well, that Officer Cantrell saw everything. The police are prepared to testify against you, Hannah. You can’t hide from the truth.

“You ran to the police to protect Caspian, didn’t you? You covered for him when you sent him abroad. You’re also implicated in my brother’s death,” Henry said, lighting a cigarette and taking a deep drag.
Hannah froze. “If you weren’t involved, why were you so quick to send him overseas?” Henry pressed on. Hannah sat in the car, her hands trembling with anger, unable to speak.

“Henry, let’s head back,” Atlas said, his head pounding like it was splitting open. Caspian’s disappearance stirred the Bennett family, especially with Windsor still missing.

Atlas then recalled Caspian mentioning a desire to move out and even inviting him along. A shiver ran down Atlas’s spine as he couldn’t shake the unsettling thought of Caspian potentially harboring murderous intentions toward him.

“Casplan is my son. I raised him for over the years,” Hannah murmured, her thoughts jumbled.

“There was no response. Atlas was lost in thought, staring at her through the rearview mirror. Suddenly, a car slammed into theirs with a deafening bang.

“Henry’s sudden turn of the steering wheel sent Atlas and Hannah, who were in the back seat, hurtling forward into the back of the front seats, leaving them bruised.

“Atlas groaned, “What’s going on?”

“A loud bang threw Henry back against his seat as their car was hit again. He slammed on the brakes, bringing the car to a screeching halt. His eyes widened as he saw a figure rushing towards them.

“Freya smashed the rear car window with a hammer, shattering it with a loud bang.

Reaching through the broken glass, she grabbed Hannah by the hair and dragged her out.

“Hannah, still disoriented from the crash, cried out, “What are you doing? Let me go!” as she was pulled from the car.

“Enraged, Freya disregarded all decorum and kicked Hannah, shouting, “What’s wrong with me? I’m going to kill you!” She straddled Hannah and slapped her hard.

“Hannah felt dizzy after Freya slapped her a few times. Still gripping her hair, Freya forced her to make eye contact, their gazes locked in a heated battle.

“Who were you talking about just now? Were you trying to get Odalys in trouble by talking badly about her in front of the police? Who are you trying to frame?

“I’ve been too lenient with you, haven’t I? You have no shame! How could you stoop so low as to betray Odalys like that?” Freya fumed.

“Freya was so furious that she would have confronted Hannah if the police weren’t holding her back. The mere sight of Hannah made her shake with rage. Freya had seen all shares of audacity, but this was new for her.
“How dare you hit me?” Hannah glared at her, fury in her eyes. “You must be the one who’s always competing with Sophia for roles!”

“Freya’s anger intensified when Hannah mentioned Sophia. “Yes, I did it! Go ahead, hit me! As if I’m scared of you, you hypocrite! You’re the real one to talk!” Freya retorted, her eyes narrowing into slits as she stood and kicked Hannah.

Hannah cried out as the kick landed, sending her crashing into the car. She groaned in pain, and before she could get up, Freya was grabbing and ripping her clothes.

“Freya repeatedly snapped Hannah’s shoulder strap, leaving her shoulder red and swollen. Hannah’s body was covered in scratches from the assault.

“Hearing Hannah’s screams, Henry jumped out of the car and saw Freya frantically hitting her.” Mom!” he called.

“Just as he was about to step in, someone caught his arm. Orson pulled him back, asking, ” Mr. Bennett, what a surprise! I didn’t expect to see you here.”

“Seeing Orson’s smirk as Freya attacked Hannah, Henry knew something was wrong. They were both together in this. He glanced back at the nearby car, engine still running – the car Orson had just stepped out of.

Chapter 676

”It was Orson who had forced Henry to stop by hitting his car.

“Orson, what do you think you’re doing? You can’t just assault people like this! We live in a society with laws. Besides, my mom never did anything to provoke you,” Henry growled, holding back his rage. He didn’t dare take it out on Orson, though. “Orson’s lips twitched with amusement at Henry’s serious expression, as if he’d told a joke. Instinctively, Orson drew a cigarette from its pack, placed it between his lips, and then lit it with a practiced flick of his lighter before taking a long drag.

“A society ruled by law? Don’t tell me you’ve forgotten how Hannah stormed into the police station and falsely accused Odalys right in front of the officers. So what? Are we going to let you get away with anything?

“You assaulted someone right in front of the police, and we haven’t retaliated despite having the same opportunity. We’re already showing Bennett’s respect, aren’t we?” Orson asked with a faint smile. He took half a step forward and blew a smoke ring at Henry.

“Henry wanted to argue but couldn’t find the words.

“Help me, Henry!” Hannah cried out in pain. Henry turned to see Freya dragging Hannah forward by one leg while Selah banged a drum she’d gotten from somewhere.

“Come on! Don’t miss this! Hey folks, are you asleep? Come watch the fun!” Selah shouted, beating the drum. Freya, with surprising strength, dragged a resisting Hannah forward.

“Stellan reluctantly began a live broadcast on his phone as Francis, close behind, used his body to block the car door, trapping Atlas inside. “Francis, let me out of the car, please!” Atlas was so furious he felt like driving the car into a wall. “Francis slammed into the car door again, then, spotting the hammer Freya had discarded earlier, snatched it up. He smashed the door with a crash, caving it in and trapping Atlas inside. “Atlas was furious, incredulous that the actors were all feigning illness. “Francis, have you lost your mind? Are you all insane?”

“He recalled they were in a film aiming for awards, a casting Odalys had suggested. Their blatant disregard for their image of assaulting people made him wonder if they were worried about ruining their reputations.
“Did Odalys make them do it? What would they gain from hurting someone? An actor’s reputation is nearly impossible to rebuild once ruined,’ he wondered.

“Yes, I’m insane. So what?” Francis asked coldly, slamming the hammer to the ground.

“As Selah continued drumming, a crowd gathered, many drawn from watching the nearby live broadcast when they heard Stellan had also started streaming. Thousands suddenly surrounded the scene, blocking the road and bringing traffic to a standstill.

“Isn’t that Freya Winslow?”

“Oh gosh, Selah Rowe and Stellan Drake, too!” “Many people saw these familiar faces and instinctively thought of their names.

“Help, help!” Hannah called out weakly, reaching for assistance, but Selah stepped forward and slammed the drum loudly beside her.

“The deafening clangs filled Hannah’s ears, leaving her dazed and motionless.

“Hello, everyone. I’m actress Freya Winslow,” she said, waving generously. “I happened to be passing by today and wanted to help.”

She pointed to Hannah and said, “I wonder if everyone knows this lady. She is Hannah
Bennett of the Bennett Group. I heard a scandalous story the other day! She tried to drug and extort Evander Stewart. Thankfully, someone reported her, and she was arrested.

“A woman in her forties, she shockingly attacked a man in his seventies! Not only did she deny responsibility, but police have now discovered a body in her room – her biological son.

“This confirms that the man claiming to be Caspian Bennett is an imposter, and the true Caspian was murdered years ago. The police have already assessed the situation, but she does not know the imposter.

“Freya explained, “She just went to the police station to cause a scene and even tried to frame Odalys Stone by lying about her to the police.” Francis passed her a bottle of water, which Freya accepted and drank from.
“Selah stood up and declared, “It’s no secret that the Bennetts abandoned Odalys when she was only five. She was found on the road, nearly frozen to death. Officer Cantrell can confirm this.

“Hannah hated Odalys, believing she was responsible for her son’s death. However, blaming a five-year-old child seems unreasonable.

“The point is, she abandoned Odalys before the incident even occurred! The body was hidden in her room for fifteen years before being discovered, and she’s still trying to cover it up.

“Although the police have closed the investigation, Hannah still wants to bail out Caspian. It seems she sent an imposter abroad when her biological son had an accident. Don’t you think that’s suspicious?” Selah asked.
“The crowd hushed, eager to hear the gossip, especially anything scandalous about the wealthy.

“She didn’t even try to investigate her son’s death, and she helped cover for the imposter.” Someone quickly added, “They must have been having an affair, don’t you think?”

“I find it deeply troubling that she showed no mercy to an elderly man, let alone a young man with no blood ties to her,” Selah remarked. She was utterly unconcerned with her image. Odalys had saved her life, and she would fiercely defend her from criticism.

“Freya pressed on, “Consider this: her biological son had an accident after she abandoned Odalys. Then, she raised a son who wasn’t hers and adopted a daughter. Don’t you find that suspicious?”
“Despite the swelling from Freya’s slap that made her almost unrecognizable, Hannah felt a surge of shame as everyone stared at her.

“Could she have a fetish for this?” someone blurted out.

“A growing number of people were watching the scene. “Are you seriously still trying to blame Odalys Stone? Does this have something to do with her previous encounter, too?”

Chapter 677

”You’re abandoning and abusing someone, then trying to discredit and frame them – it’s inhumane.”

“We should contact the authorities and report any suspicious activities by the Bennett family.” “Investigate Hannah Bennett.”

“The crowd, furious with her, erupted in shouts. “Hannah was furious. She jumped up, covering her face with her hands. “It was Odalys who put you up to this, wasn’t it?” she cried. “She destroyed my family, and now she still won’t leave me alone!” Hannah’s voice boomed.

“Her arrogance was unbearable. An old woman even rushed up and slapped her, shouting, “Have you no heart? You treasure a son that wasn’t yours while Odalys suffers! What about her? Was she just born unlucky?”

“I was so angry when I saw the news. She’s lonely and desperate, preying on everyone, even the elderly.”
“Yes, the man is in his seventies. Who was he wronged by? It sounds like she almost scammed him.”

“When Henry arrived, a crowd surged forward, making it impossible for him to pass. Someone finally spotted him and said, “Look, another member of the Bennett family.”

“Their cries of “Hit him, hit him, hurry up and hit him!” sparked public outrage, causing everyone to turn and chase after Henry.

“Hannah was severely beaten and collapsed to the ground, unable to move. Henry was chased for two blocks before being cornered and attacked, barely managing to crawl away. “This live broadcast isn’t about seeking revenge for what happened with the Bennett family. However, their behavior has become unbearable. I can no longer stay silent about the Bennett family’s unethical actions.

“I’m speaking publicly, using my real identity, and not afraid of backlash. I’m doing this for Odalys Stone! She saved my life,” Selah said.

“Francis stood before the camera and said, ” Odalys saved my life, too.”
“Odalys helped my entire family.”

“She also saved my life.”

“Fear, once a constant companion, vanished. The thought of Hannah at the police station steeled their resolve; to let her stand alone would haunt their conscience. With their piece said, they ended the livestream, leaving Hannah to stare at them, her expression unreadable. “You’re going too far,” Hannah said, her voice tight with pain.

“Freya laughed, her voice filled with defiance.” We should be the ones saying that! The Bennett family is the one that went too far. Do you think you can bully Odalys just because she’s vulnerable?

“Let me clarify: if you dare slander and frame her again, I will make you regret it. I won’t tolerate bullies.” Freya’s voice was firm, indicating her seriousness.

“Hannah despaired as she looked at the faces around her. These popular stars were willing to risk their reputations for Odalys. She wondered,’ Why did everyone seem to love Odalys and take her side? I hadn’t done anything wrong; she was the problem.

‘She was nothing short of my nemesis. The Bennett family wouldn’t be in this situation without her. It was all her fault.’ She deeply regretted not ending Odalys’s life at birth, wishing she had done so instead of raising her.

“Why is everyone biased toward her? No one cared about her life back then. They must be possessed! Otherwise, why would Sophia suddenly be with Windsor? Why else would she be attacked online? The Bennett Group went bankrupt, and Caspian turned out not to be my son?” she murmured.

“As Hannah struggled to stand, she collapsed back down, her vision blurring as fragmented memories of childbirth flashed through her mind like whispers in her ear.

“Hannah struggled to recall what they had said about the child. Had they promised prosperity or warned of a jinx? She couldn’t be sure.

“Henry rushed to Hannah’s side as she collapsed to the ground. “Mom! Mom!” he cried, shaking her gently as she fainted in his arms.

“Before she fainted, he heard her say, “Kill Odalys, that woman shouldn’t live, kill her.” “Henry’s arms instinctively loosened from around Hannah as he stared at her in disbelief, his brow furrowed in confusion. It seemed everyone wanted Odalys dead, but he couldn’t fathom the reason.

“It was true that Hannah made a mistake tonight. By going to the police and framing Odalys, she ultimately provoked her friend into a physical altercation.

“Henry!” Atlas scrambled out of the car and ran forward, only to be met with the horrifying sight of Hannah’s bruised and swollen face.

“Turning, he watched Orson drive up. After Freya and the others climbed in, Orson honked the horn a few times before speeding in the luxury car. “You guys are something else!” Orson called out. “Aren’t you afraid your show will get canceled if you’re all over the internet tomorrow?”

“An actor’s image is important, ” Selah chuckled, remarking, “What’s the worst that could happen if we get canceled? I just needed to let off some steam. Who says the Bennetts should have a monopoly on arrogance?”

“If this drama flops, we’ll leave the entertainment industry,” declared Francis.

“Freya smiled against the car window as she said, “It’s too bad Edie wasn’t there tonight. I was hoping to see her.”

“As Orson continued driving, he glanced at his chattering passengers in the back seat and offered, “What are you guys in the mood for? Dinner’s on me tonight.”

“Stellan broke the silence, asking Orson, “So, where did Percival take Odalys to dinner tonight? We’re all dying to know about his date.”

“Yes, that’s right!” The others joined the conversation immediately.

“Orson blushed slightly. “I’m afraid that’s impossible,” he said. “That place requires reservations, especially the private room reserved explicitly by Percival’s father. Even I can’t get in, let alone all of you.

“It’s the Stewarts’ exclusive room, only to be used by Percival and his grandfather,” Orson explained, sheepishly touching the bridge of his tall nose.

“His words only made them more curious. “We can still eat in the main dining area, even if we can’t enter the private room,” Selah inquired.” Which restaurant is it?”

“Orson screeched to a stop nearby and parked his car. “The 18th floor of that building over there,” he said, pointing.

“Everyone turned to look where Orson was pointing and then fell silent. They said the per capita consumption there was 60 thousand dollars!

Chapter 678

”Francis quietly asked, “Hey, I’m craving barbecue. Is anyone else in the mood for chicken wings?” He knew he couldn’t afford to eat there.

“Okay, chicken wings are pretty good, too,” Selah agreed, raising her hand subtly. Her financial situation was dire; if she weren’t paying rent, she’ d likely be homeless.

“There’s a food stall next door,” Freya said, always happy to indulge her friends, even though Percival’s generous allowance didn’t make her wasteful. Since everyone was craving chicken wings, she readily agreed.

“Orson smiled softly, watching them interact with such ease. It was his first time joining them for a late-night meal. He could afford it, but the Stewart family rule barred entry after midnight, and tonight was no exception.

‘No entry after midnight, Orson thought suddenly. He glanced at the rearview mirror, a flicker of movement in the darkened restaurant catching his eye. The figure disappeared before he could get a good look.
“He thought he recognized the figure, perhaps as Percival’s father, but he couldn’t be sure. He was very young when he died.

“The Lark and Stewart families were old allies when they were young. Orson often trained with Percival. The memory tightened Orson’s chest, and he quickly shook his head, trying to banish the chaotic thoughts.

“Late at night in Bennett Villa, Edie sat before her vanity, studying her reflection after removing her makeup. She’d been feeling her age lately, noticing that even skincare couldn’t fully restore her youthful glow.

“Edie’s phone buzzed with a notification, surprising her with the news that flashed across the screen. She quickly tapped it.

“A live stream showed a badly bruised Hannah. Her attacker, Freya, arrogantly revealed Hannah’s secrets to the camera.

“Freya Winslow,” Edie muttered, staring at her face on the screen. Her eyes blazing with hatred.
“Edie still couldn’t harm Freya even after all this time. The Stewart family was incredibly protective of Freya after her adoption, making it impossible for Edie to act. She desperately tried to get Freya to move out.

“Freya had always been fortunate, dodging every trap Edie laid out for her. Now, with Freya clinging to Odalys, Edie’s face contorted in anger. She slammed her phone down and grabbed her lipstick.

“After a moment’s hesitation, she answered her phone. “Hello, it’s me,” Edie said, rising to her feet and walking away as she spoke. “I want to buy someone’s life.”

“Edie continued talking as she entered the room, her voice fading as she disappeared. On the balcony, Sophia stood thoughtfully, eating cake. Buy Freya’s life?” she mused. “What kind of grudge could she possibly have against her?” Sophia was puzzled.

“
“Her fingers were so stiff that she could barely move them, giving her the perfect excuse to stay in Bennett Villa and avoid going out. Besides, she had just watched the live video.

“Secretly pleased with Hannah’s beatings from Freya, Sophia wished they had hit her harder. She held no affection for her adoptive mother. Lost in thought, she watched Edie disappear, her confusion growing.
“Sophia wondered, ‘Why would Edie marry Henry? She hates Freya more than anyone. Is she trying to frame the Bennetts for something by marrying into the family? And why has she never returned to the Simpson? It can’t just be a coincidence they share a last name.’

“No one answered her. Because Edie saw her injured hand, she took her to the hospital and even picked her up afterward. Sophia could not miss such a caring gesture.

“Sophia was curious about Edie’s intentions but restrained herself from asking. However, Edie remained silent and took no action, further deepening Sophia’s curiosity.

“Caspian and Brandon were arrested,” Sophia said coldly, returning from the balcony to her room. “It seems Odalys is planning to exact revenge on each of them.”

“Lying in bed, her eyes fixed on the corner of the room, Sophia saw a vague figure standing there. Terror gripped her, and she scrambled up. “Who is it?” she whispered sharply.

“As she reached for the light switch, a figure lunged towards her. The faint whiff of a familiar scent was the last thing she registered before losing consciousness.

“Henry discovered it was empty when he brought Hannah back to Bennett Villa. Neither Sophia nor Edie was there, and it seemed they hadn’t returned. Henry tried calling them, but their phones were off.

“While he once disliked crowds, Bennett Villa was quiet now, and its stillness sent a chill through him.
“Night had fallen as Percival drove Odalys back to Stewart Villa. As they arrived, they spotted Dorian approaching in the distance.

“Odalys greeted Dorian as soon as she saw him. Dorian carefully closed the car door for her. “Ms.

Stone,” he said, “Mr. Stewart just made dumplings and wasn’t sure if you’d return in time. What a fortunate coincidence!”

“Dumplings? Let me see!” Odalys hurried toward the living room, practically flying on her swift feet.
“Percival watched her cheerful demeanor, noting her genuine fondness for Evander. He followed behind, smiling. “Dorian, is everything ready?” he inquired.

“Dorian lowered his voice and said mysteriously,” Everything is ready.”

“Thank you for your hard work,” Percival said.

“As they walked back, Percival talked with Dorian. A few steps later, he subconsciously glanced at
the ancient tree. It stood silent and dark, his father gone. Still, last night’s scene replayed vividly in his mind.

“Don’t worry,” Dorian reassured him, seemingly understanding his concern. “Mr. Stewart prepared food this afternoon, and I brought some over. There are fresh meals every day.” “Okay, thank you,” Percival said.
“Dorian rubbed his palms together excitedly. Having recently observed Percival and Odalys spending time together, he felt something wonderful was about to unfold. Percival was like a son to him, having watched him grow up.

“Percival did not know what Dorian was thinking.

He entered the living room and saw Odalys

leaving the kitchen carrying something to the dining table.
“Percival hurried over to take the bowl from Odalys, saying, “I’ll do it.”

Chapter 679

“Evander set the table with cooked dumplings and side dishes, calling out, “Come eat, Dorian!” as he gestured with a bowl toward Dorian.

“Dorian joined them cheerfully, but it was unusual for the four of them to eat dumplings together. Percival glanced around and asked, ” Where’s Callum?”

“I have let him go back to rest,” Evander said.

“Thinking of the crisis Odalys had mentioned, Percival looked at Evander with mixed emotions. Evander had worked hard for him and the entire Stewart family for nearly his life.

“Have some more dumplings,” Evander said, serving some to Odalys.

“After enjoying the dumplings, Percival and Evander chatted downstairs. Meanwhile, Odalys collected her bag and headed upstairs. An intense fragrance washed over her when she opened her bedroom door. Odalys flicked on the light to find the floor covered in petals.

“This is?” Odalys gasped, her gaze sweeping over the room. Bright red petals carpeted the floor, inviting her in. She slipped off her shoes and stepped cautiously onto the soft bed of petals, but a sudden chill froze her.
She hurriedly lowered her head and discovered gleaming rubies beneath the petals. The deep crimson petals enveloped the room in a crimson glow, filling it with the fragrant aroma of flowers.

Odalys walked over the petals, and radiant rubies were beneath her feet. The entire floor was adorned with vibrant, shimmering red rubies. “Odalys chuckled, watching the scene unfold. It was no wonder Percival had seemed to want to say something but hesitated on the way back. Settling onto the ground, Odalys patted her bag and said, “Come out.”

“With a swoosh, the little snake shot out of the canvas bag and zipped up to the ceiling. It clung there, looking down hesitantly at the petals scattered across the floor, afraid to disturb them. “Do you think Percival is childish?” Odalys asked. She loved rubies and planned to use them to craft a magnificent ruby statue for her mentor after a hundred years. She also hoped to create one for her forefathers.

“She was touched that Percival remembered their tradition: every gift he gave her was a ruby, now piled up before her. Reaching down, she touched the glistening pile, her nose tingling slightly.

“Just then, her phone vibrated. Odalys was puzzled by the unknown caller, thinking they would have called so late. As the tenth ring sounded, she answered.

“Hello?” Odalys asked softly.

Lee’s familiar voice came from the other end of the line. “Ms. Stone, it’s me.”

“Officer Hersey? You’re awake!” Odalys exclaimed happily.

Hearing her happy voice, Lee chuckled. “Just woke up,” he said. “Thank you for saving my wife and daughter. You rescued them from a terrible fate. The first thing my wife asked me to do when I woke up was to call you.
“She’s not comfortable expressing herself, but she wanted me to tell you how grateful she is,” Lee said. Lee’s wife was genuine, just not the most outgoing person.

“You’re too kind,” Odalys said. “Our meeting was destiny, and helping you was effortless. There’s no need for thanks, but I’m relieved you’re awake.” “During their chat, Lee suddenly recalled something and asked, “I heard Finnian died?” “Yes, that’s right,” Odalys responded.

“Despite having just woken up, Lee was in good spirits. “I was surprised to learn about his involvement in the dark web,” he remarked. “He reminisced about Finnian’s heyday as a sought-after star. Back then, he dabbled in variety shows, and while his journey wasn’t without bumps and online criticism, it shouldn’t have led to this downfall. Looking back, Lee realized everything had shifted.

“Someone must have introduced him to the dark web. Be cautious of those around you. Since he targeted your wife and children, he likely holds a past grudge or grievance against you.

“Those operating on the dark web are ruthless and pervasive. You’ve dealt a significant blow by eliminating Finnian and severing their connections.

“However, they won’t be easily deterred.

Destroying their base again will only solidify you as a prime target, making things even more dangerous.”Odalys reminded him.

The inherent sorrow of being a police officer was that even doing one good deed could offend others.
“Ever since I decided to work with Mr. Stewart, I’ve been ready for anything. Don’t you worry, I won’t go down easily. Too many of our comrades were brutally murdered by them. I’ll survive and make sure every last one of them faces justice,” Lee said, his voice tinged with sadness.

“Sure,” Odalys replied quietly. After hanging up on Lee, she lay down, inhaling the fragrance of roses. Closing her eyes, she vaguely heard someone softly calling her name.

“Her name echoing as if from a distance made Odalys’s eyes fly open. “Who’s there?” Odalys sat up sharply, jolted awake by the faint sound of her name from earlier in her sleep.

“The distant voice, impossible to pinpoint, faded as Odalys sat up. “Well, maybe it was just me,” she muttered, rubbing her forehead before heading to the bathroom.
“Opening the door, Odalys was pleasantly surprised to find the bathtub filled with warm water and rose petals, a thoughtful gesture from Percival despite their disappointing date earlier.

“She’d dismissed similar scenes in books and TV as fiction, never imagining they could happen to her. Now, it was as if she’d become the protagonist in her drama.

“She undressed and sank into the warm bath, letting the water embrace her. Relaxing, she let her hair cascade around her as she began to wash it. Leaning back, eyes closed, she seemed to soak in the serenity.

“Odalys, come back.”

“Odalys, come back.”

Odalys’s heart pounded as a voice echoed in her ears; she looked around frantically but found only emptiness.
If she’d questioned the reality of the voice before, dismissing it as a dream or hallucination, doubt was no longer an option. Someone called her name, beckoning her back, but she had no idea who that was.

Chapter 680

“Just as drowsiness threatened to pull her under, Odalys abruptly sat up, snatched the glass beside the sink, and tossed it out the window before quickly putting on her bathrobe.

“Go to hell!” Odalys roared, hurling the glass away. She conjured a talisman from thin air and thrust it forward.

“A scream shattered the night’s stillness. “Ah, ah!” A woman’s cries continued.

“The residents of Stewart Villa were startled awake as Percival burst through the door and rushed to Odalys’s side. “Odalys, what’s happened?” he asked, his voice filled with concern.

“Odalys kept her gaze fixed ahead, shaking her head. Only when the downstairs lights flicked on, and Callum appeared, looking up, did her gaze shift. “Odalys,” he called, “there’s a pool of blood by the old tree.”
“Alright, got it,” Odalys said.

“As she turned, Percival had already grabbed a towel, wrapped it around her long, dark hair, and gently dried it. “I’ll go and take a look downstairs,” he said. “You go ahead and dry your hair.”

“Odalys started to speak but stopped short, remembering she was only wearing a loosely tied bathrobe. Her movements had caused it to gape open, revealing a glimpse of her cleavage. Her face flushed scarlet, and she quickly crossed her arms over her chest.

“Percival glanced up but then turned away, shutting the door behind him before she could speak.
“Odalys dried her hair, changed into comfortable clothes, and went downstairs. The backyard was now quiet. The servants and bodyguards had withdrawn. Only Callum, Evander, and Percival remained, deep in conversation.
“Their conversation ceased abruptly at the sound of approaching footsteps. “Where’s the blood?” Odalys asked.
“Callum spun around, took a few steps toward Odalys, and said, “It’s right here.” Percival and Evander hurried after him.

“A pool of blood stained the ground beside the ancient tree. The odor was more of a foul, aged stench, like something long frozen. Odalys crouched to take a closer look. “Do you have any lime?” she asked.

“Lime? Hold on, I’ll ask.” Evander turned to Dorian. “Dorian, do we have any lime?”

“Huh? Yes, it seemed we did,” Dorian hurried back. Limes weren’t common and rarely used, but Stewart Villa kept a supply of even the most unusual items in the storeroom.

“Panting, Dorian hurried from the backyard, clutching a small bag he’d retrieved from the corner. He handed the contents to Odalys.

“Odalys opened the bag and sprinkled lime over the bloodstain. The onlookers, afraid to interrupt her concentration, stood silently behind her. “As Odalys scattered the lime, footprints, some faint and others deep, mysteriously emerged on the ground.

“As she sprinkled the lime, her gaze followed the footprints. They grew clearer, revealing the desperate flight of something not quite human a blend of man and beast – and continued even after the lime ran out.
“Odalys straightened her posture, her gaze distant and thoughtful.

“Odalys, what is this?” Evander asked, astonished. “It resembles a human and animal footprint, with some parts deep and others shallow.” Evander had never seen such footprints.

“A folk tale claims that sprinkling lime around the room of a deceased person will reveal footprints at midnight, believed to be the soul returning from the underworld. These footprints suggest that the deceased yearns to return home, a desire the underworld permits.

“Those returning leave traces that hint at their re -encounter. Animal footprints suggest a second chance as an animal, while human footprints suggest a second chance as a human. There are also sayings about plants.
“These footprints are a mix of human and animal; it means that after this person died, they didn’t become a ghost or come back as an animal or plant-they’re something else entirely,” Odalys explained, handing the empty bag of lime powder back to Dorian.

“Dorian quickly stepped forward to take the bag, listening intently to her words and not daring to make a sound.

“No one in the Stewart family has recently died,” Evander pointed out. ‘Percival was poisoned and nearly died last time but was fine. No, Callum almost died then, too. Over a dozen bodyguards were seriously injured, but that’s different from dying,’ Evander wondered.

“He keeps calling my name,” said Odalys. “Hearing her name called, Percival was instantly on edge. He felt a surge of possessiveness, convinced that someone, real or imagined, was after his significant other. It crossed a line for him.

“Percival’s voice turned cold, laced with anger, as he asked, “Why did he call your name? He wants you to take the blame?”

“Odalys was amused by his anger, finding his usually stoic demeanor at odds with his childish outburst.
“It had to be someone who died long ago, someone unable to be re-encountered. They desperately wanted someone to blame for their fate but were too weak to make their presence known. They must have seen me open the gate of time and space for you last night.

“You met with him before, and it’s possible this thing witnessed our encounter. Since I used the charm near the Stewart family, he’s now focused on me. He might be trying to trick me into helping him with his re-encounter or planning to use me as a scapegoat,” Odalys said.

“The moment she stopped speaking, Callum rushed downstairs, carrying Odalys’s canvas bag -Percival had just sent him for it.

“Upon receiving the canvas bag, Odalys snapped her fingers and commanded, “Go and catch him.” “Startled by Odalys’s fingers snapping, the snake, fast asleep just moments before, shot out of the canvas bag, spinning through the air with a swoosh. Its speed stunned everyone present. “Dorian moved closer to Evander, surprised to see a snake in her canvas bag. “How did you get the snake to be so well-behaved?” Dorian asked. Evander remained silent.
