Chapter 686

“Go!” Janet’s men immediately swarmed Melody. Those people were all top-notch fighters. Her special assistant alone could fight ten people. She was more than enough to deal with a mere Melody. Thinking of this, Janet felt her blood boiling.

Even if things were as Sid said, and Ken suspected her, or if Ken truly fell in love with Melody, she didn’t care. She would not leave any traces behind. Besides, Ken wouldn’t cling to a dead person forever. Janet believed he’d eventually move on.

Sid struggled to sit up but still overestimated his physical fitness.

He had been in a coma for more than a week, and his limbs were difficult to move. Not only were they difficult to control, but every time he moved, a heart-wrenching pain would come from his chest. Even so, Sid endured the pain and struggled to sit up. As a man, he was not afraid of death. In any case, he had already walked through the gates of hell once.

However, he did not want to implicate Melody. She was innocent. So, he looked around, spotted a call bell on the wall, and pressed it hard. However, just as Sid was about to touch the call bell, a hand suddenly grabbed his wrist. Sid turned his head abruptly and met Janet’s eyes.

“You want to call for help? In your dream!” Janet pulled Sid off the bed. With a dull thud, Sid fell heavily from the hospital bed to the ground. The wounds on his chest split open almost at the same time, and the white gauze was instantly dyed red.

“Ugh…” Sid groaned in pain.

However, Janet did not feel guilty at all. She gripped the dagger in her hand tightly and bent down. “Let me help you ease your pain. Don’t worry, you won’t feel a thing.” She raised the dagger in her hand and aimed it at Sid’s chest.

However, in the nick of time, Melody flew and kicked Janet in the back. Janet was caught off guard and was kicked to the ground. The dagger in her hand cut her face. “My face!”

Janet screamed in pain. Ignoring the pain in her back, she quickly touched her face. Her palm was sticky. When she took a look, it was covered in blood.

Janet froze. Before she could do anything, Melody directly grabbed her and pressed her to the ground, immobilizing her. “Ah, let go of me. Let go of me! Someone-“

Janet shouted desperately, but no one came to help her. Seeing her helpless state, Melody said indifferently, “Don’t waste your energy. They won’t help you now.”

As she spoke, she grabbed Janet’s hair and pulled her head up, allowing her to see the state of her people. She realized that everyone, including her special assistant, had been knocked unconscious. The conscious ones had an extremely pained look and were unable to move.

Janet’s eyes widened in disbelief. She called their name one by one, but just as Melody had said, most of them were already unconscious and could not help her at all. “How could this be?”

Even though she had seen it with her own eyes, Janet was still unwilling to believe that Melody had beaten down her guards. She had never imagined that Melody would beat up all of her guards with her bare hands. A sense of fear flooded her heart. ‘No, I can’t get caught. Not like this! If I get caught, I will never be able to be with Ken again.

“No!” In an instant, a huge force erupted from Janet’s body, allowing her to break free from Melody’s restraints.

Melody did not expect Janet’s undying will to be so strong. After Janet broke free, she quickly went forward to grab Janet again. However, Janet came prepared. She reached into her pocket and sprinkled a piece of white powder from her palm.

Sid was the first to notice that something was wrong. He shouted to warn Melody, “Melody, be careful!”

Melody quickly turned her head to cover her mouth and nose with her right hand. But even so, she still inhaled a portion of the powder. For a moment, she felt a burning pain in her throat, and it slowly spread throughout her body. “Not good…”

Melody quickly took out her silver needles and inserted them into an acupuncture point on her body. While she did so, Janet picked up the dagger again and went after Melody. However, just as she took a step, two hands suddenly appeared and hugged her right leg tightly. Janet lowered his head and saw that it was Sid.

“Piss off!” Her eyes were bloodshot as she kicked Sid away. The kick landed on his wound.

“Ah!” Sid groaned in pain. His body trembled as he curled up into a ball. Janet did not even look at Sid as she charged towards Melody.

Melody was still detoxifying herself. There seemed to be a fire burning inside her body, and the non-existent fire slowly nibbled away at her strength. She no longer had the strength to stand on her feet. She bent her knees and slumped to the ground.

“Go to hell!” Janet swung her right hand and the dagger quickly flew towards Melody.

Melody subconsciously wanted to dodge, but she had underestimated the power of the unknown powder. Her body seemed to be frozen and she could not move at all. With her fate sealed, she closed her eyes reflexively.

However, the expected pain did not appear. Instead, Janet screamed. Melody opened her eyes and saw that Ken had appeared in the ICU. Janet’s chest was stabbed with the dagger that she had just thrown out. She was lying in a pool of blood in pain. Her eyes were wide open as she stared at Ken who had suddenly appeared. Janet did not believe that Ken would harm her. She was his good friend, comrade-in-arms, and childhood friend who had known each other for years.

Sid also widened his eyes in surprise, but he immediately let out a long sigh. He did not know how Ken did it, but he caught the dagger out of thin air and threw it towards Janet. In the past, Sid might have thought Ken was cold-blooded and did not care about old friendships. However, after seeing Janet’s real face, he did not think so anymore. He even felt satisfied.

“Why?” Janet asked with a trembling voice, “You did this to me because of her?”

Ken glanced at Janet as if looking at a cockroach. He quickly looked away in disgust and squatted before Melody to ask, “Are you hurt? What did she do to you?”

Chapter 687

Melody did not expect Ken to ignore Janet and turn around to ask about her situation. She could not help but recall what Sid had said, “I think you know Ken already has someone in his heart. That person is Melody!”

Melody was shocked. She looked at Ken, who was looking at her concernedly. It took her a long time to finally speak. She said with difficulty, “I got poisoned.”

Ken’s gaze instantly darkened. Meanwhile, Melody quickly pointed at the place where the silver needles were inserted and said, “Don’t worry, I’m already detoxifying myself, but it will take a few minutes to expel all the poison. Ken walked up to Janet and asked flatly, “Explain? Alright, then explain why you attacked her and Sid!”

Janet took a deep breath and held her injured chest in pain. She said pitifully, “You heard it wrong, although what you see made you think it’s true. The reason why I wanted to kill her was because I heard that she and Sid were plotting to collaborate with Ulric to end you. Therefore, I was so angry that I brought people to deal with them. However, I didn’t expect her to be so skilled, so I poisoned her to protect myself. Later on, you came and saw all this. And even worse, you turned the knife and aimed it at me. Do you know how painful my heart is?”

Melody almost laughed. She couldn’t believe Janet tried to right the wrong when the evidence was clear. She had never seen such a shameless person. But at the same time,

Melody also realized that she was nervous.

Melody was not sure if Ken would choose to believe Janet’s words or believe her and Sid. At that moment, Ken’s back was facing her. She could not see the expression on his face.

However, she could see that James’s expression was shaken. Janet saw the wavering in James’s eyes and looked at Wilona pitifully. “James, you’re willing to believe me, right?”

James lowered his gaze in confusion. Of course, he was willing to believe Janet. They had been partners for so many years. However, Sid was like a brother to Ken.

If someone betrayed his boss, the most likely person to do so would be Melody. But at that moment, Sid was on the same side as Melody. He did not know which side to stand on. “Sir…”

After hesitating, James said, “We don’t know the truth yet. Why don’t we wait until everyone’s injuries are healed first?”

Ken narrowed his eyes and said indifferently, “Since you still refuse to admit it, why don’t you listen to this recording first, Miss Murphy?”

“What recording?” Janet instantly felt anxious.

The next second, Ken nimbly took his phone from his pocket and played a recording. The recording was of Janet working with Ulric at the airport to deal with Averi and Sid. What was even more shocking to Janet was that Ken owned the recording.

In the recording, Janet panicked and told Ulric that she had killed Sid. She asked him to send someone over to deal with the corpse. James’s face was filled with disbelief. His eyes widened almost immediately. “Miss Murphy, were you the one who attacked Mr. Quant? How could you do that?”

“I didn’t!” Janet subconsciously wanted to retort, but no matter how hard she racked her brain, she could not explain it. Since Ken could obtain the recordings, he must have confirmed their authenticity. She had no way to refute him.

Sid glanced coldly at Janet and glanced at James. “James, do you still believe that vicious woman?”

Melody was completely stunned. She looked at Ken in a daze. ‘Is he truly like me? How is that possible?’

“Enough!” Ken scolded coldly, “James, inform the police to come and bring her out!”

However, James did not respond. Ken frowned and looked over. He saw that James was also dumbfounded. It was obvious he was too shocked by Janet’s words.

Ken closed his eyes in frustration. He did not want Melody to know his feelings under such circumstances. He did not even dare to look Melody in the eye. ‘Damn it!’

As Sebastian ran into the ICU, he saw Janet’s men had been knocked unconscious. Then, he saw the pale Sid. “Son!” Sebastian was shocked and quickly ran towards his son.

On the way, he was surprised that his son was not the only one injured. Janet and Melody were hurt as well. “What the hell is going on?”

Ken supported Melody and told Sid, “Explain to him yourself. I’ll help Melody find a place to lie down first.”

“I’ll go too.” Warner was about to follow when Nickolas pulled him back.

“Grandpa?”

Nickolas ignored Warner and said directly to Sebastian, “I’ll ask my men to screen this place thoroughly to see if there are any hidden dangers.”

“It’s a small matter.” As Nickolas spoke, he dragged Warner out.

Warner watched as Ken helped Melody into the ward next door. He lowered his voice and asked, “Grandpa, why don’t you let me go over?”

“She’s already married, give up! Hurry up and see where Sebastian’s men have been taken to.”

In the ICU, Sid endured the pain in his chest and lay back on the bed with Qiao Shan’s help. Sebastian looked at Janet on the ground. She looked as if she was possessed. Sid explained shortly, “At the airport, she was the one who attacked me with Ulric Swanson. She betrayed Ken and me.”

“What?” Sebastian was furious and glared at Janet. He thought his son, Ken, and Janet were good friends. However, he did not expect that she was the one who wanted his son’s life. “Why are you doing this?”

Sebastian questioned with a trembling voice. His tone was filled with anger, disappointment, and deep confusion. “Haven’t you always been good friends with Sid? How could you do that?”

However, Janet seemed to be deaf and had no intention of answering Sebastian’s question. Instead, her eyes kept staring at where Ken had left.

“You-” Sebastian was so angry that he raised his hand and slapped Janet.

Janet’s face, which was already cut by the dagger, started bleeding even more. At that moment, she finally reacted. Her eyes stared at Sebastian like a monster eyeing its prey.

Sebastian was about to speak when James Deeds stepped forward and said, “Mr. Quant, leave this matter to us. Mr. Swanson has already called the police over. They will give your son justice.”

James Deeds, who had seen Janet’s true colors, was no longer protecting Janet. However, If Janet died, they wouldn’t get their answers. Turning her in was the best choice they had.

Sebastian also figured this out and said coldly, “Take her out! I don’t want to see her face.”

“Understood.” James Deeds replied. He waved his hand and had someone bring Janet out.

Although Janet’s chest was stabbed with a dagger, it did not injure any vital points, so it only looked terrifying. Adrian’s men treated her wounds. During this period, Janet was uncooperative and wanted to commit suicide several times. However, James Deeds did not give her a chance at all. He stopped her every time. Because of this, James Deeds had to monitor her every move. His eyes never left Janet.

Not long after Janet was taken away for treatment, Adrian rushed to the ICU and immediately examined Sid’s wound. Beside him, Sebastian asked concernedly, “Adrian, is my son alright?”

The more Adrian checked, the more shocked he became. He looked at Sid in shock. Not only did the wound on Sid’s body split open, but it also injured his internal organs that were not fully healed.
