Chapter 181
There was a black car parked at the corner of the street. A couple was in the car, looking at the two siblings standing outside the entrance of the hotel.
Julianna was overwhelmed with pity when she saw the scene. She pulled her husband’s sleeves and said gently,” Darling, how could you just sit here and watch the kids go homeless? It’s already been half a month. I believe they already know that they were wrong.”
James replied coldly, “If they really know that they were wrong, why are they not calling us?”
“You know that Zachary is as stubborn as you. He won’t lower his head.” Julianna smiled as she tried to persuade James.
James was still not satisfied. “I’m their father. I can’t possibly lower my head for them, can I?”
“I can’t bear to watch them suffer. We have been taking
care of them for more than ten years.”
Julianna was heartbroken when she saw the hotel staff forcing out her children.
Why do my kids have to suffer like this?
It’s all Jessica’s fault.
If it wasn’t for her behind all this, James wouldn’t be so cruel.
Julianna knew James had acted out of anger. That was why he didn’t go and look for the siblings.
It’s already been quite some time. His anger should have subsided by now.
Julianna couldn’t hold back herself anymore. She got out of the car and walked toward the siblings.
James tried to stop her but he eventually held himself back.
The chauffeur, Alex, witnessed what was going on. He knew that deep down, James also wanted the kids to come home but he just couldn’t let go of his pride.
Looks like Ms. Jessica’s effort will now go to waste. Since Alex had been working for the Larson family for more than ten years, he knew that James pampered and tolerated Zachary a lot. It would not be beneficial to Zachary if James kept on pampering him like that.
After five minutes, Julianna came back with Zachary and Whitney.
Jessica got out of the car when she arrived at the Larson residence. She then entered the house upon watching the car drive off.
Once inside, she heard a familiar voice in the living room.
쇼
The maid uttered, “Ms. Jessica, Mr. and Mrs. Larson have brought back Mr. Zachary and Ms. Whitney.”
Jessica didn’t show much expression when she heard what the maid said.
As she reached the living room, she saw the Larson family having a great time chit-chatting and laughing. Even James, who was usually strict, was laughing as well. The scene was heartwarming.
However, Jessica didn’t feel the warmth.
She stood behind them and watched them. All the happiness and laughter had nothing to do with her. She was like an outsider.
If she saw this in her previous life, she would be upset and jealous. But now, there was only hatred.
Laugh all you want! You might not have the chance to laugh again after this!
When Whitney saw Jessica, she waved at her passionately. “Jess, you’re home. I made some cookies. Come and have some.”
Having spent some time away from home, Whitney finally understood one important thing.
No matter what, she needed to be the young lady of the Larson family. Without that status, she was nothing.
“I’ll pass.” Jessica went upstairs with her handbag.
As Zachary saw Jessica rejecting Whitney’s offer, he responded, “Don’t mind her. I would like to have some of your cookies.”
Jessica went up the stairs as a cold smirk played on her lips.
The living room was once again filled with laughter and chit-chat.
昌
Chapter 182
There were some noticeable changes in Whitney following her return. She became obedient, and she was buttering up James and Julianna. She even looked like an elder sister when she showed her concern for them.
People who were clueless about their relationship would have thought that they were close to each other.
Jess, these are the cookies I made yesterday.” Whitney handed the meal box to her.
Jessica did not respond. Her eyes curved upward as she stared at Whitney in silence, delivering her feelings and emotions through her gaze.
Boiling rage erupted within Whitney as she was uncomfortable with how Jessica was staring at her. How she wished she could gouge out her eyeballs.
“It’s fine if you dislike these.” Whitney took back the meal box from Jessica.
The moment she was about to retract her hand, Jessica took the box from her. Jessica then turned around and left.
A strange smile appeared on Whitney’s face.
“Jess, what did you bring today?” Daisy asked.
“This meal box doesn’t belong to me,” Jessica replied instantly.
They continued walking until they came to a basketball court. A toned guy who was training on the court caught Jessica’s attention.
A few guys on the court instinctively turned to her when they noticed her arrival.
Suddenly, Zayne nudged Caleb when he noticed Jessica eyeing Yves. “Jessica is looking at Yves.”
Caleb traced her gaze, and it landed on Yves. He raised his eyebrow and said, “These girls have awful taste. What’s so good about Yves?”
“Shh, lower down your voice, or he’ll hear us.” Zayne hushed.
“Tsk,” Caleb scoffed.
Zayne uttered, “She’s walking toward us.”
Jessica headed to the basketball court, and it drew attention from the crowd.
Daisy was surprised, and she questioned Jessica, “Jess, what are you doing?”
She’s not planning to do that, right?
The next second, Jessica walked up to Yves and handed the meal box to him.
Yves was taken aback as well as the students around him. Their eyes widened, and they were in disbelief that Jessica would give him a gift in public.
This situation was not unusual for him as he had experienced similar instances many times.
However, that was the first time he felt pressured when a girl sent him a gift in front of everyone.
Regardless, his pride grew after he saw the envy and awe in the eyes of the crowd.
He had never felt that before. It was even better than a previous confession by the campus belle.
In fact, his family members always wanted him to build a good relationship with her.
He was hesitant at first, but his wavering determination was quickly replaced by his sense of pride.
The influence he would have when I bring her out if she becomes my girlfriend.
Even the crowd over at the basketball court was astounded by the commotion. It was unsurprising that many girls would moon over Yves and shower him with gifts. However, this girl was Jessica. And that made everything different.
“Damn! Boss, look at that. Your desk mate is giving Yves a gift.”
“Jessica is falling for Yves? My boss is obviously more handsome than him. Is she blind?”
Xander’s subordinates started discussing the scene.
Xander’s gaze swept across the crowd and fell upon Jessica. He then squinted his eyes.
昌
Chapter 183
While Yves was busy picturing him and Jessica together in his mind, Jessica ordered impatiently, “Hold this.”
Yves took over the meal box subconsciously.
Daisy was dumbfounded. Does she like Yves?
“Someone asked me to pass you this. Make sure you finish it, or I will punch you,” Jessica threatened.
Yves stood rooted to the ground.
After passing the meal box, Jessica turned around and left. The crowd was struck dumb at the scene.
“Damn, this is my first time witnessing a girl giving a gift to a guy so differently. It’s so domineering.”
“She just said that it was from someone else and not her.”
“Zayne, are you dumb? She obviously said that on purpose because she was shy.” Caleb sounded like he was experienced.
What Caleb said resonated with most of the people’s thoughts at that time, including Yves’.
He took a glance at the box in his hands. He then smirked when he noticed everyone at the scene was shooting their envious gaze at him.
From the corner of his eyes, Yves noticed Xander, who was walking toward him. He lifted the box and waved at Xander. Then, he raised his voice and said, “She has put some thought into this, hasn’t she? This box is exquisite.”
Xander stopped in his tracks and threw him a cold look. He then left the scene.
His subordinates quickly followed behind.
Soon, the news spread like wildfire in the school.
“What did you say?” Whitney widened her eyes in disbelief.
“Isn’t it surprising? I was in shock when I heard the news,” Edith blurted.
“Do you think Jessica likes Yves?” Xenia frowned.
“Of course. She wouldn’t send Yves a gift publicly if she wasn’t in love with him. She’s shameless.” Edith was furious.
Her family members mercilessly beat her following the previous incident and even froze her credit cards, so she struggled to maintain her flashy lifestyle. Edith blamed Jessica for her current predicament.
Those girls had an irreconcilable hatred for Jessica.
“First, she snatched your parents, and now she’s eyeing your fiancé. She’s so shameless,” Xenia cursed in exasperation.
Clenching the pen in her fist, Whitney’s hatred for Jessica intensified. She then said, “Yves is not my man. Even if she likes him, it has nothing to do with me.”
“How is it not related to you? It has a lot to do with you.” Before Xenia could speak any further, she was stopped by Claudia.
Everyone in the school had a similar reaction upon hearing the news, including Whitney and the others. They were
astonished at first, then quickly fell into a state of acceptance.
After all, Yves came from a prestigious family, and he was handsome. He was the campus hunk of St. Daniel College. It was entirely normal for a girl to like him.
When Xander returned to the classroom, the people were gossiping about the incident.
Xander stared at the slender figure sitting in the corner of the classroom. Then, he looked around at the people who were whispering.
Suddenly, the table crashed onto the floor with a bang after Xander kicked the piece of furniture, startling everyone inside the room. An eerie silence hung in the air following the abrupt disturbance.
“Shut up. Anyone who speaks another word shall get a good punching from me.” The ferocity in his eyes was appalling.
Instantly, the crowd remained in silence – no one dared to speak any further.
Chapter 184
Xander walked past Jessica and threw his jacket on the table. Then, he sat down and put his arm on her chair, seemingly not caring about his image.
“Hey,” Xander called out to her.
At that moment, Jessica’s head was hung low as she was focused on her homework.
Xander furrowed his brows and felt displeased after being ignored by her, so he said again, “Jessica.”
Upon feeling the change in ambiance, Jessica raised her head and looked at him with a confused expression on her face. “What’s wrong?”
Xander’s mood was lightened upon seeing her beautiful, clear eyes. He then coughed and asked, “Do you really like Yves Harrod?”
“Huh?” Jessica was puzzled by the question as she stared at him and asked, “What’s up with your expression?”
Me liking Yves? No way. I didn’t like him in the past, and I won’t like him this time either.
Yves Harrod was quite good-looking. However, he was nothing compared to Jack and Hugh. To be frank, even Xander was much better than him.
Jessica’s response elicited a smile from Xander as he confirmed, “So you don’t like him.”
“Don’t interrupt me with those random questions while I’m in the middle of something,” Jessica said in a displeased manner.
She was having fun solving the questions, but her train of thought was interrupted by him.
Pleased, Xander merely agreed, “Alright.”
That guy can barely solve a question by himself, yet he had the nerve to show off in front of me? What a clown.
The next day, Whitney sent Jessica another lunchbox. The latter received it without saying much.
However, the lunchbox ended up with Yves soon after.
In the following days, whenever Whitney sent any food to Jessica, it was all given to Yves.
Jessica would give it to him in person if they met by coincidence. Otherwise, she would ask her classmates to pass it to him.
There were more and more rumors about Jessica liking Yves.
However, time flew by quickly in the school, and the student’s attention was soon attracted to another matter. “Tomorrow’s Lansing Group’s 50th anniversary. Are your parents bringing you along to attend the ceremony?” “Nope.”
“Yes.”
While other students were likely attending the ceremony with their parents, Jessica had gotten an invitation letter from Zayne Lewis himself. She gave the invitation letter to Yara, along with an exquisite evening gown but did not
send any jewelry.
As Yara could not afford a stylist, she learned how to style her hair by watching videos online. After getting herself dressed up, she got in the car that Jessica had sent.
Holding the invitation letter tightly in her hand, Yara promised herself, I will get myself a rich man this time. Only then can I afford to live a life like Jessica’s?
“Ms. Leon, we have arrived.”
The doorman opened the car door and stood beside it respectfully as Yara got out of the car.
For the first time, she was experiencing what it was like to be a part of the upper class.
Yara looked around the guests and noticed they were all wearing dazzling jewelry. She felt abashed looking at her unembellished neck and ears as she followed the other guests into the ballroom.
The ballroom looked splendor with its luxurious decorations, and Yara was astonished by the glamour. At the same time, her desire grew.
“Will Sebastian be coming tonight?”
“Definitely.”
“I heard from the Lewis family, so it definitely won’t be wrong.”
“I really want to have a look at that divine man.”
Yara listened as the people around her were gossiping about a man named Sebastian.
Who is that?
Although she had never heard of him, Yara thought he must have been an impressive and powerful figure if that many people were talking about him.
It would be nice if I could leave a good impression on him.
Chapter 185
“Sebastian. It’s such a nice name. I wonder what kind of person he is. He must be an outstanding man,” Yara murmured to herself and smiled.
“Oh. Look who’s here?”
Suddenly, an ear-piercing voice spoke.
Yara raised her head, and a glint of fear flashed across her eyes when she saw who was approaching her.
Yael peered down at the girl in front of her and scoffed. “It is really you, Yara. I thought I mistook someone else for you, but how did a peasant like you get in here?”
Yael could attend the ceremony because she was a distant relative of the Lewis family, and Yara’s presence took her by surprise.
Yael’s friends were confused and questioned, “Who’s this?” “She’s the Leon family scammer who accused Jessica of being ungrateful.” Yael deliberately spoke in a loud voice.
Sure enough, she succeeded in attracting the guests’ attention as they all cast judgmental stares at Yara.
Yara felt uncomfortable being sized up by the people around her.
One of the girls next to Yael chimed in, “How can someone like her attend an event as big as this? Did her sugar daddy get her in?”
Upon hearing the slanderous words, Yara’s face was red with anger. “I have an invitation letter. Please stop defaming me.”
“You? An invitation letter? As expected, a scammer just can’t quit their old habits.” Yael laughed mockingly.
“Jessica gave me the invitation letter. You can ask her directly if you don’t believe me.”
As more eyes were drawn by the commotion, Yara got increasingly nervous. She had an important mission to complete, but it would be impossible for her to get a rich husband at the event if everyone were to misunderstand her. 昬
Yara looked at Yael, who had a crazed look in her eyes. Then, Yara quickly pushed Yael aside and made her escape. Yael wanted to chase after Yara but was stopped by her friends. “It’s the anniversary ceremony of the Lewis family. If you cause any trouble tonight because of an insignificant person, your dad will be furious.”
Upon listening to her friends’ persuasion, Yael decided against chasing after Yara and merely watched as the latter left.
After all, her dad did not bring her along for her to mess with Yara. She was there to meet the genius doctor, Sebastian.
Even if he’s a genius doctor, he’s still just a doctor. I’m the daughter of the Amelia family, and I’m way too out of a mere doctor’s league.
“Do you think I’m pretty today?” Yael asked as she spun around in her dress for her friends to see.
“Yes. You look gorgeous!”
Meanwhile, Samantha was standing at the entrance while waiting for someone. Next to her stood a tall and handsome man.
As the guests spotted the man next to her, they quickly approached him with smiles on their faces.
“Mr. Young, long time no see.”
“Mr. Ackerman, how are you?”
“I’m all good, thanks to you. Are you waiting for someone, Mr. Young?” Mr. Ackerman asked curiously.
“I’m accompanying my niece.”
Mr. Ackerman nodded upon hearing his response and said, Ah, I’ll head in first then.”
Charles nodded slightly.
After Mr. Ackerman left, other company directors came up to Charles and took turns greeting him as well.
When there was nobody around, Samantha quickly took the opportunity to usher her uncle inside. “Uncle Charles, you can go in first,” she said with disdain.
Charles frowned. “Your mom asked me to take care of you. How can I let you stand here alone?”
The corner of Samantha’s lips twitched slightly. As if I would trust you!
昌
Chapter 186
“Haha…” Samantha snorted.
Just as they were talking, a Porsche approached slowly and stopped at the entrance.
Samantha’s eyes instantly lit up upon seeing Jessica in the car as she waved at the latter. “Jess, over here!”
Hearing Samantha’s voice, Jessica glanced at her and smiled.
Upon seeing Charles, James hastened his footsteps and led his family toward where Charles was standing. “Hello, Mr. Young,” James greeted him with enthusiasm. “Mr. Larson, you’re always so energetic,” replied Charles. James tugged Zachary forward as he introduced the latter with a blissful smile, “Mr. Young, I suppose you haven’t met him yet. This is my son, Zachary.” He then turned to Zachary. “Quick, greet Mr. Young.”
Zachary stepped forward with eyes full of admiration. “Nice to meet you, Mr. Young. I’ve admired you for a long time. You’re my idol.”
Whitney chimed in, “Hi, Charles.”
Charles furrowed his brows and was just about to speak when Samantha scoffed, “I don’t think you’re close enough to be on a first-name basis with Uncle Charles. Don’t you think so?”
The atmosphere became tense and awkward as Whitney’s face fell.
Upon noticing Charles’ expression, James shot a glare at Whitney before explaining, “Haha. Mr. Young, I hope you don’t mind. Whitney didn’t mean to be rude. She’s just trying to be friendly and break the ice.”
Samantha was about to click her tongue but stopped herself as James was Jessica’s father.
Charles’ expression remained indifferent as his gaze shifted toward Jessica. The Larsons had all greeted him enthusiastically, yet Jessica had not said a word all day. 昌
Upon meeting Charles’ gaze, Jessica smiled and greeted, ” Mr. Young.”
Charles was stunned by her greeting as his smile froze.” Um… You can call me Charles too, just like your sister.”
Upon hearing that, James’ eyes lit up while Whitney’s heart raced.
Does that mean I can call him by his name from now on? Then, I’ll be one step closer to him.
“Jess, go on. You heard what Mr. Young said,” James urged as he thought to himself, she should grab this opportunity to become closer to Mr. Young.
Jessica glanced at her father who was looking at her expectantly and shifted her gaze to the man who was standing in front of her. “I may be Sam’s best friend, but I don’t think it’s appropriate for me to call you by your name. I’ll stick with Mr. Young.”
Samantha nodded in agreement. “That’s right.”
Charles stared right into Samantha’s eyes as he uttered with a faint smile, “You’re right.”
Upon seeing Charles’ meaningful smile, Samantha shuddered and quickly changed her mind.
“Uh, Jess. Maybe it’s better for you to just call my uncle by his name. Besides, he isn’t much older than you. There isn’t a need to be too formal. What do you say?”.
Samantha screamed internally. Argh! This is too difficult for me!
Jessica looked at Samantha’s pleading eyes and then at Charles’ unwavering smile. With a light cough, her sweet and melodic voice greeted, “Hi, Charles.”
In an instant, Samantha felt the intense aura surrounding her disappear, and it was replaced with calm and gentleness.
She sneaked a glance at Charles and complained inwardly.
Just wait and see, Uncle Charles. I’m going to give you a hard time with this! 鳳
Whitney, who was standing beside them, could barely hide the envy in her eyes.
Why? Why is he so nice to her? I’m way better than her and I lack nothing!
Chapter 187
Charles smiled and said gently, “It’s getting chilly out here. Let’s get inside.”
“Sure, sure,” James responded happily.
Zachary had kept an eye on Whitney and noticed the changes in her expressions throughout the interaction. When he looked at Charles again, there was no longer a hint of admiration in his eyes.
While Samantha and Jessica walked ahead of the others with their hands linked, Charles was trailing behind them as if he were their personal bodyguard.
As soon as they entered the venue, Edgar quickly stepped forward to greet them. While the adults were exchanging pleasantries, the younger ones joined their respective circles after the greetings.
Upon seeing Samantha and Jessica, Daisy and her cousins quickly approached them. “Finally! I was about to die of boredom if you two still didn’t show up.”
“Daisy, aren’t you going to introduce them?” A young lady in a pale yellow gown asked with a lovely smile on her face.
“Sure! Meet Samantha and Jessica. They’re both my best friends,” Daisy said before turning around to face Jessica. These are my cousins.”
Daisy’s cousins were displeased by the half-hearted introduction, but they dared not express their
dissatisfaction in front of Samantha and Jessica.
Meanwhile, Yara was standing alone in a corner. When she noticed Jessica and the others, jealousy instantly filled her heart. Jessica looked stunning and all eyes were on her when she entered the venue.
A couple of months ago, Yara and Jessica had a similar background, but everything had changed in the blink of an eye. They were in different worlds simply because Jessica was fortunate enough to have a wealthy father.
Upon seeing how the group was having fun and buttering Jessica up, Yara felt a sense of annoyance. 响
Yara looked around her and noticed the venue was full of prominent and wealthy men. However, most of them were old and stout. The younger men looked ordinary and there were a couple of good-looking ones who were already surrounded by beautiful ladies.
She kept glancing around the venue until one dashing man caught her eye. The man was the embodiment of perfection. His looks, figure, and background were all outstanding.
Yara’s gaze was locked on Charles. Satisfaction arose as she continued to observe him, and she could barely hide the admiration in her eyes.
“Stop looking. You don’t stand a chance.” Yael approached her.
Many looked down on Yael because of her humble upbringing, and nobody was willing to socialize with her. Hence, she had no choice but to hang out with Yara to make herself feel superior.
“Do you even know who he is? He’s Charles Young from the Young family in Jadeborough. All the families in Horington are dying to marry off their daughters to him. Unfortunately, none of them are prominent enough to become in-laws with the Young family.”
Yael turned her gaze away from Charles and sized Yara up. Who do you think you are to pine after him? I wouldn’t even think about it if I were you. He’s way out of your league. Stop dreaming, will you?”
“Does that mean Jessica doesn’t stand a chance with him either?” Yara asked in return.
“Of course, duh!” Yael replied without hesitation. She then continued, “According to her status, she can probably match with the Lewis family or the Harrod family. Do you think all the prestigious families are on the same level? It’s a food chain and the eight prestigious families in Jadeborough are at the top of the chain. The one you saw, Charles Young, is one of them.”
Yael seemed to be in a good mood while lecturing Yara about upper-class society.
Chapter 188
“You came here in search of a rich man, right?” Yael cut to the chase.
Upon being exposed, Yara’s face turned red in
embarrassment. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” “There’s nothing to be ashamed of. I’ve come across a lot of girls like you. Many women have the same intention in this banquet as well. For instance, the one in the purple low-cut gown right in front of you, and the one in the black bare-back gown on your left. They have their ways of getting into high-class banquets. Once they’re in, they’ll pick up a target. If someone fancies them, everything will take its course, and everyone gets what they want,” said Yael.
Yara’s face was as red as a tomato as she had never discussed such explicit topics.
“What are you so embarrassed about? They already have their eyes set on their targets and did their research before attending. Even so, it’s still not easy to hook up with a rich man after one banquet.”
After hearing Yael’s words, Yara became more anxious as this was her only chance. She knew Jessica would not keep helping her without expecting anything in return.
“Do you have a target?” Yael asked.
Yara shook her head.
“Then, your plan might not work. It’s just a waste of time if you’re searching blindly,” Yael continued to bait her.
Hearing that, Yara started to panic. She had no idea where to begin as she did not know a single person at the banquet.
Yael chuckled as she continued, “If you do me a favor, I can help you find the right man. I know the kind of women they like. Plus, I know who the playboys are and who the gullible ones are.”
“What favor?” Yara asked cautiously.
“Relax, it’s just a small favor. Do you see that lady in a red gown over there? I need you to pour this fruit juice on her. Isn’t that simple?” Yael beguiled her.
“What if she asks for a compensation?”
Yael could not help but laugh at Yara’s naivety. “Nobody’s going to fuss over a dress on this kind of occasion.”
“As simple as that?” Yara was doubtful of the other girl’s kindness.
“Well, it’s up to you whether you believe me or not.”
Yael stood up and was about to leave when Yara stopped her. I-I didn’t say I wasn’t going to do it.”
“Just do it. Stop hesitating then,” Yael whined with a glint of mischief in her eyes.
While the two girls were plotting, a middle-aged man around his forties appeared beside the woman in a red gown. Although his features were average, he exuded a refined aura.
The woman shuddered as he wrapped an arm around her waist and walked toward Charles.
Charles was finally done exchanging pleasantries with the other guests. As he scanned the sea of guests, he finally spotted a familiar figure and quickly walked toward her.
“This is nice.” Samantha placed a piece of cake on Jessica’s plate.
The latter took a bite and nodded in agreement. “Not bad.”
Upon seeing Jessica’s puffy cheeks and non-stop chewing, Charles thought she looked like a cute little hamster. His dark pupils had a hint of gentleness in them as he looked at her.
Suddenly, another piece of cake appeared on Jessica’s plate. As she lifted her gaze, her eyes met with Charles’.
“This is quite nice. Have a taste.”
Jessica tried it and nodded.
Charles was delighted she had enjoyed the dessert he selected for her, so he picked another item and placed it on her plate. “Try this as well. It’s not oily, has low calories, and a nice texture.”
昌
Chapter 189
Watching her uncle being attentive to her best friend made Samantha feel slightly envious.
Uncle Charles is so biased! All he cares about is Jess.
He already forgot his beloved, beautiful, and gentle niece!
“Ahem.” Samantha attempted to get his attention by clearing her throat.
Unfortunately, Charles was completely immersed in the joy of feeding his little hamster and had blocked out any surrounding noises.
What the heck? This is ridiculous! How can he ignore me?
Unwilling to give up, Samantha was about to say something when Charles gave her a cold glare.
Stunned speechless by his eyes, Samantha had no choice but to give up and retreat to Daisy’s side while quietly enjoying her food.
After Samantha left, yet another tactless man approached Charles and Jessica.
It was Seamus and his partner. “Mr. Young, it’s been a while.”
Seamus’ gaze happened to sweep over Jessica as he walked closer. His expression froze for a moment as he was amazed by her looks.
She’s such a beauty despite her young age. In two years, she’ll definitely grow up to be a beautiful lady.
Although Seamus was captivated by Jessica’s beauty, he dared not make a move as he could tell Charles had a crush on her.
Meanwhile, Charles was in a bad mood because of the interruption and he was glaring daggers at Seamus.
He sensed a sudden change in Jessica. It was not obvious, but he could feel the suppression of her hatred and murderous intent.
Jessica’s eyes turned frosty as she looked at the man in front of her. She could feel her blood boiling in anger as hate arose within her.
Seamus Davis! Finally, we meet again.
In her previous life, the Larsons had given her to Seamus in exchange for financial support for the Larson Group. Seamus was psychopathic and perverted as he brutally tortured her. Because of his impotency, he enjoyed inflicting pain on women and listening to their screams.
When Jessica was sent to him, she would always endure her pain in silence. Regardless of whether he had whipped her or punched her, she never made a sound.
Unfortunately, her silent resistance enraged Seamus. As a result, he locked her up in a basement full of rats in hopes that they would bite her.
Every single day, for half a month, Jessica killed the rats one by one for the sake of survival.
When she got rid of the last rat in the basement, she could finally rest as she had successfully pulled through.
Despite her suffering, she only had one thought in her mind. She was determined to get out of her predicament alive so that she could take revenge for what those bastards had done to her.
However, Seamus was overseas for business when she managed to escape from his basement. Jessica’s greatest regret was being unable to finish him off in her previous life. With her second chance at life, she was determined to get rid of her past regrets. Jessica wanted to give Seamus a taste of his own medicine this time around.
Seamus Davis! It’s been a long time!
Jessica’s eyes were filled with bloodlust. The hatred and killing intent in her were so intense that she felt like she was losing control. In an instant, her eyes were reddened and bloodshot.
I want to get rid of him now! I can’t wait any longer. I have to crush his bones one by one.
昌
Jessica clenched her fists as she flashed a peculiar smile at Seamus.
Chapter 190
Seamus could feel a chill running down his spine as he stared at Jessica in confusion. He was met with an unsettling gaze from a pair of bloodshot eyes.
Her eyes are terrifying.
He squinted his eyes and seemed to sense a dark aura that was similar to his own.
I’ll have to crush him! Brutally!
Jessica’s hands were curled into fists when a pair of strong hands firmly held onto hers. The warmth from the hands seemed to have warmed her heart as well.
A bright light flashed across her mind, and Jessica snapped out of her trance. Her expression returned to normal as she regained her rationality and calm.
Jessica lifted her head and met Charles’ gaze which was filled with worry and concern.
“Are you not feeling well?” Charles asked.
Jessica shook her head.
“This must be Ms. Jessica from the Larson family. I’ve heard a lot about you,” Seamus exclaimed while extending his hand for a handshake.
Looking at the outstretched hand, Jessica’s lips curled into a smirk. Charles’ gaze shifted from Seamus’ hand to the latter’s eyes as he smiled meaningfully.
Seamus got the hint as he withdrew his hand sheepishly and sighed internally. Mr. Young is so possessive. He doesn’t even allow others to shake hands with his crush.
At that moment, Seamus realized Jessica was not someone anyone could mess with.
“Some time ago, I imported some quality gemstones from Manchernius. Mr. Young, please bring Ms. Jessica to have a look at them when you’re free.”
Judging by Seamus’ attempted bribery, it seemed that he needed a favor from Charles.
“I’m not interested though,” Jessica declined. She was more interested in thinking about ways she could threaten the man.
“Ms. Jessica, I bet the purple jade stone will match your skin tone well. I happen to have one of those stones. I’ll have someone deliver it to your house tomorrow,” Seamus insisted.
Jessica raised her head and said softly, “Charles, I want to try that one.”
Charles’ heart skipped a beat at her request.
He was caught off guard by her pleading voice as his cold expression began to melt into a gentle smile.
“Okay.”
Charles quickly went to grab the food for her and completely ignored Seamus, who was still standing beside them.
He then fed a bite of cake to Jessica who obligingly opened her mouth.
Seamus stood awkwardly at the side, unsure of how to react. Everyone had their eyes fixated on Charles and Jessica. They exchanged glances with one another upon seeing him feeding Jessica personally.
The female guests were green in envy.
Samantha, who was nearby, witnessed the scene as well. Suddenly, the cake in her mouth tasted like nothing and was hard to swallow.
“What else do you want to taste?” Charles asked in a gentle tone.
“A glass of juice.”
Charles then got a glass of fresh fruit juice from the waiter and handed it to her.
Seeing how the two were in their own world, Seamus was completely ignored and had no choice but to leave.
Jessica became her usual self again after seeing that Seamus had left. When Charles grabbed a plate of fruits for her, she kindly rejected, “I’m full. You can have it yourself, Mr. Young. By the way, thank you.”
If Charles had not stopped her back then, she might have lost control of herself and got carried away.
Wait, Mr. Young?
“Why aren’t you calling me by my name?” Charles asked with a smile.
Upon seeing his smile, Jessica felt a little embarrassed and guilty at the same time as she had unknowingly taken advantage of him.
