Chapter 171
“Everyone on the internet is on their side. Now, let us show them the truth and prove to them how wrong they were,” Jonathan spat out in anger.
“What Jonathan said is right.” Stella nodded in agreement. However, Yara did not think that it was the right thing to do. “What if we’re pushing them too far? Let’s just-“
Not giving her a chance to finish her sentence, Jonathan interrupted, “What’s with all those questions? Are you afraid or something?”
Stella glanced at Yara unapprovingly and said, “Listen to your brother. He’s smart; he knows what he’s doing.”
Yara could not win the argument against both the mother and son. She was even more helpless when Jonathan posted the video on the internet.
Once the video was on the internet, it was reposted over 10, 000 times in less than five minutes.
At the Larson residence, Jessica was lazing on the lounge chair in the courtyard. She was sipping on the sweet and refreshing coconut juice while swiping through Twitter. She smirked when she saw the video posted by Jonathan. I knew it! He finally could not sit back any longer! The director of the public relations department stood by the door and asked, “Ms. Jessica, we’ve followed your instructions. Now that they have posted the video, this will not only ruin the Larson family’s image but also complicate the other companies who supported you. We need to do something on our side and provide those companies with an explanation.”
To offend so many companies and company directors all at the same time, the Larson family is going down.
Jessica lifted her eyes as she sipped on a mouthful of coconut juice. “Wait.”
“That’s…” The director hesitated. “That’s not very nice!”
Jessica sneered, “That’s not very nice? Haven’t you seen what your subordinate had said and done here? That is not very nice, isn’t it? I am very curious. How did such a talent manage to slip into the public relations department and even get to be dispatched out?”
The director’s mouth went dry and he could not stop wiping the cold sweat from his forehead.
“That staff was severely punished. She is suspended for the time being.”
Suspended for the time being?
That “talent” made such a humongous mistake, and all she gets is just a suspension?
It is apparent that Larson Group’s inner organization has begun to rot.
昌
No wonder James had betrayed me with all his might in my previous life. He needs all the financial assistance he can have in order to let the Larson family continue to survive.
Jessica snorted and did not say anything more about the matter.
The director silently sighed in relief when she did not disapprove of that decision.
Why is it more difficult to deal with Ms. Jessica than Mr. Larson?
Every time their eyes met, it was as if she could see what was on his mind.
At the headquarters of Fairview Ventures, Hugh was looking through the multiple message notifications. All those messages were from his business partners and friends. He did not even need to click on the messages to know what they were for.
“These people are too impatient.” Jensen laughed and said, “That little friend of yours is so incredibly devious. Those who messed with her this time around are gonna have a hard time.”
“However devious, she is still young. As her lawyer, are you sure it is suitable for you to be lazing around here?”
Jenson was taken aback for a second. He then laughed uncontrollably. “Why does it feel so awkward to hear you say that? Nineteen years old is not a young age anymore. You were already getting ready to set up your own company when you were nineteen.”
Hugh rolled his eyes at him. “If you don’t have anything better to do, then I have some friends who want to see you.”
Jensen got up hurriedly. “Don’t! I’m leaving now. I’m gonna go watch out for that little girl of yours.”
Chapter 172
Just as he reached the entrance, Jensen stopped in his tracks and turned around. He looked at Hugh suspiciously.” You seemed to be paying a lot of attention to this young lady.”
This is totally not his way of doing things.
“Don’t you think her eyes are very pretty?” Hugh asked abruptly.
Those eyes felt familiar to him.
Jensen’s eyes widened. “You can’t have fallen for her, right? Don’t you forget that your brother has taken a liking to her?”
Hugh glanced at him coldly and picked up his phone. His intentions were clear.
Jenson is a bit slow today. What an eyesore.
Jensen ran away as quickly as he could.
At the hospital, Jonathan said gleefully, “Well, what did I say? It has only been a while, and the donations have been increasing. In one hour, it will generate about a few thousand dollars. Later, I’m going to post a video and play the victim. The money will come rolling in.”
Stella was delighted. “My son is so clever.”
Jonathan beamed with pride.
After half an hour, Jonathan saw that the donation amount was declining. He hastily posted the sob story video.
Just as he had expected, the money came rolling in.
The mother and son were absolutely delighted, but Yara did not seem to be very happy about it as the money would be going into her brother’s pocket and she would not get a single cent from it.
“Son, look, how much money is that?” Stella was shocked when a number of donations suddenly came in.
Jonathan looked at the long string of zeros and counted enthusiastically, “A hundred, a thousand, 15 thousand, 150 thousand. It’s 300 thousand dollars.”
Yara’s and Oliver’s eyes widened in shock.
“Let me see.” Yara rushed forward and wedged herself in between the mother and son. She gasped when she lowered her sight and saw that donation amount. Immediately, ecstasy flashed across her face.
The entire family was over the moon.
“We’re rich! We’re rich! Son, we’re rich now. We’re a wealthy family too!” Stella mumbled in excitement.
At the Larson residence, the public relations director said cautiously, “As per your instructions, 300 thousand dollars was transferred over using an unknown account.”
“Good.”
After Jessica responded, she tapped the “enter” key on her phone. A set of well-prepared documents and video evidence was posted on Twitter.
“Make sure that this tweet stays on top of the chart.” “Understood.”
The director already had everything set up and was ready to go. He set off to get things done.
Five minutes later, Jessica’s tweet became the headline for the day.
The netizens were waiting for the big shots in the business enterprise to stand up and explain themselves. However, instead of the big shots, Jessica was the one giving out the exclusive information.
In that tweet, the pieces of evidence given were clear and complete. It had an entire video as main evidence and surveillance camera footage as supportive evidence.
It proved that what Hugh said was right. Leslie was at the scene of the incident but chose to twist the facts and mislead everyone.
To add on, Jessica also released the receipts from when she used to pay for the siblings’ school fees and interviews with teachers, neighbors, and classmates.
The statements from unrelated bystanders to close neighbors and classmates and the voice recording from the time when the Leon family arrogantly blackmailed Jessica had put the Leon family on the spot.
“Call the police after ten minutes and report the Leon family as frauds.”
With the amount up to about 450 thousand dollars, plus blackmail and other offenses, I wonder how much jail time will be given to them.
Chapter 173
At that moment, someone knocked on the door of the ward. A nurse walked in and handed a letter to the Leon family.
“What is this?” Stella asked.
Jonathan tore open the envelope to reveal a court subpoena.
“What is it?” Stella moved closer to look, but as an illiterate person, she could not understand a thing.
“It’s a court subpoena. Jessica is really suing us.”
“She’s suing us?” Stella’s eyes widened in shock.
Yara gasped, “Mom, we’re in trouble. Jessica brought out the evidence. We’re all ruined!”
There was plenty of evidence, and any one of those was enough to convict them, leaving them with not the slightest chance of winning.
The mother and son started to watch the video showing what the neighbors had to say as well as the hard evidence such as various receipts.
The support they had gotten on the internet by playing victim instantly turned to dust.
Everyone who had supported them in the past now hated them for lying.
The Leon family is disgraceful. These kinds of people belong in hell.
How could such shameless people exist?
She had to work so hard just for some food you gave her, and now your family dares to claim that Jessica is the ungrateful one?
I really want to hit someone now.
Who’s the real ungrateful person here?
Who else but the Leons?
< The Leons are so thick-skinned to be able to utter such words.
They really have no shame in trying to play the victim.
If I were Jessica, I wouldn’t give in either.
Who do they think they are?
They really treat her as an ATM.
The Leon family are such greedy people.
Previously, I took pity on them. But now, looking back, I was too naive and blind.
My goodness!
This is making me nauseous.
You have to be kidding me. Do people like this really exist?
My goodness, they really deserve to die.
They’re just polluting the air by living and breathing.
The comments were one-sided, and the Leon family was being called out with evidence.
The media, in order to stay relevant and to keep adding fuel to the fire, investigated the Leon family. They found out that Stella was uneducated and uncultured, whereas Oliver was an alcoholic and a gambling addict.
Of the two kids, one was an excellent student and well-behaved but was also, ultimately, a fake person good at putting up a front.
The other was spoilt by the parents, having dropped out of school at a young age and was now doing nothing at home.
This time, the entire Leon family was in panic. Even the bedridden Oliver looked worried.
Stella said, “What are you scared of? We have money.
Money can fix everything.”
Jonathan nodded, “Mom is right. We have to quickly withdraw the money.”
Yara was not as optimistic as them. She had a gut feeling that this was just the start of Jessica’s revenge.
If this was just the start, that meant the future had much more to bring.
“What’s this?! Why can’t I withdraw the money?” Jonathan bellowed.
“What’s wrong?” Stella asked anxiously.
“I can’t take out any money.”
“Is it a faulty bank card? Shall we get a new one?” Stella suggested.
Upon hearing this, Yara’s bad omen became worse.
Knock, knock, knock!
Someone was knocking at the door of the ward again.
Without waiting for a response, the door was pushed open,
and a uniformed policeman entered.
“Which of you is Jonathan Leon?”
Stella quickly stood in front of her son.
The policeman’s sweeping gaze rested on Jonathan. “We have received reports that the charitable donations in Jonathan’s name are fraudulent. Since the amount is extremely large, we have to bring him in for questioning.”
Chapter 174
屋
Jonathan panicked, grabbing onto Stella’s arm. “This has nothing to do with me. The donations were made by her. Take her instead!”
He pointed towards Yara. Yara sputtered, in fury.
Stella nodded. “Yes, he’s right. Jonathan is still young and doesn’t know about these things. Everything was done by Yara; this has nothing to do with my son.”
“Mom!” Yara stared in shock at her mother.
Is she throwing me under the bus to save her son? Oliver, who was lying on the hospital bed, suddenly spoke up with much difficulty and said, “It’s him. Take him away.” He pointed at Jonathan.
Stella looked at her husband in surprise. “What nonsense are you saying?”
“Dad, how could you be so biased?” Jonathan glared. Yara’s eyes brimmed with tears as she looked at her frail father, her heart full of gratitude.
The policeman looked at the family of four, speechless. However, due to his years of experience as an officer, he showed no emotion.
“I’ll take both of you in for questioning then.”
The policeman thought that he might as well investigate both siblings.
Stella stood in the way of the policeman and asked, “Will they come back after you take them away?”
“This depends on the outcome. If they’re guilty, then they will be detained immediately.”
“For how long?” Stella pressed further.
“The amount of fraud you are suspected of is huge – it’s almost 450,000 dollars. If sentenced, it should be no less than ten years.”
Hearing that, Jonathan went as white as a sheet.
“My son is still so young.” Stella cried.
The policeman sighed softly and reminded her, “He is already of age.”
“Mom, I don’t want to go to jail.” Jonathan held on tightly to Stella’s arm.
Looking at the son she had doted on for so long, Stella said, “Let the two children go. They’re still young and immature. It’s me. I told them to do it. Please take me instead.” Yara responded, “This was your fault from the beginning anyway. If it wasn’t for you, the situation wouldn’t be like this. You were the one who said too much in front of the reporters and caused all this trouble. You should be the one going to jail.”
Jonathan nodded and agreed, “You’re right.” He then told the police, “We were all just listening to our mom.”
Stella did not feel much besides anger when Yara uttered those words, but she became heartbroken when Jonathan joined his sister in blaming her.
In the end, the policeman took all three of them in.
Because the trio agreed that Stella had done it, Oliver had no choice but to say the same thing.
Stella took all the blame and took the fall for the family.
Due to the young age of the two children, after being detained for a few days, they were released.
Even so, all their money was confiscated.
Oliver had no money to pay for his hospital bills and was chased out. The family of three then returned to the shanty part of town in the western suburbs in embarrassment.
Upon their arrival, all the neighbors started pointing and gossiping about them. None had anything nice to say. Seeing the empty house, listening to Jonathan’s angry rants, looking at her father’s weak body and the immense hospital bill, Yara knew that her future was bleak.
Ding dong!
Her handphone rang. It was a message from St. Daniel College.
Due to your misconduct and flawed moral character, which is not in line with the virtues of our school, you have been expelled from St. Daniel College.
Her phone fell to the floor.
Yara was devastated.
This was Jessica’s revenge on her.
She was out to ruin them, and especially Yara!
Chapter 175
“Argh!” Jonathan held his leg and yelled, “Your phone hit my foot, and it hurt. You can’t even hold your phone properly. No wonder you have to ask others to make way for you to enter St. Daniel College!”
“What did you say? Do you dare say that again?!”
Suddenly, Yara pushed the chair next to her and looked at him sharply.
It was the first time Jonathan was stared at by her this way. “I am… I’m telling the truth.” He was so nervous that he began to stammer.
Crash!
Yara swept the teacup on the table to the floor with an ear-piercing noise that shocked Jonathan into silence.
“Shut up!” Yara glared at her loser brother and said, ‘ Without me, you would have starved to death. You don’t have the right to judge me!”
I was born just ten minutes earlier than him. Why do I have to bear all the burdens of the family? Why?!
Jonathan was shocked by her reaction. Although he felt unsettled, he didn’t dare to talk back. He could only mumble in a low voice, “It’s all on Jessica.”
Yara shot him a glare and turned away.
She ignored the odd looks directed at her and left the shanty town. Then, she dashed to hide in the corner of the demolition area and sobbed silently.
After a while, the sky was getting darker. While she raised her head and wiped her tears away, she noticed the joss paper at her feet. She then realized with a start that this was where Henry met the ghost.
She stood up and escaped in fright, but halfway through her escape, she accidentally tripped and fell to the ground.
Caw! Caw!
Suddenly, the cry of crows sounded. It had frightened Yara, and she groveled up from the ground, totally disregarding her dignity, with both her hands and feet.
She was relieved when she went out of the demolition area and saw the people on the boulevard.
Yara could watch the people around her smiling and laughing as she walked down the street. When she looked at those happy faces, unwillingness and hatred slowly grew in her.
Suddenly, she recalled what Jessica had told to her when they were at the school gate that day. “Feel free to come to me if you find yourself unable to live anymore. Maybe, I can give you another chance.”
Unable to live! This is the situation I am in now! Perhaps… There was a horrible thought in her mind at the moment.
She wondered if Jessica had expected the ending for a long time, or if it was she who had designed it beforehand. Once the thought appeared, she could not stop it. She knew Jessica was smart since she was a child, but she never thought that Jessica was such a scheming person.
The more Jessica wanted her to bow her head, the more she was against her.
Yara gritted her teeth as she murmured, “You want me to bow down to you? Stop dreaming!”
Since she did not give in to Jessica, the Leon family’s life was not as easy as before. So, Yara had no choice but to go out to work to earn money.
That meant Whitney and Zachary would also live a hard life.
When Zachary saw his best friend, Edward Clarke, come over to his house, he greeted him warmly. “Have a seat. I was just thinking of giving you a call and here you are.” “Edward, what do you want to drink?” Whitney asked gently.
“Water, please.” Whitney then went to get the water from the kitchen and got Zachary a cup of fresh juice.
昬
Whitney’s wound had almost healed, but there was still something that troubled her. She needed money. Without sufficient money, she did not dare to buy anything that she liked.
“Edward, I’m out of money. Just give me another 30 thousand dollars,” Zachary asked without any hesitation or begging.
✩
Chapter 176
Edward looked at him. He felt uncomfortable giving Zachary the 30 thousand dollars.
He was not from the Larson family and was not as rich as them.
His pocket money was just 15 thousand dollars a month.
The 15 thousand dollars that he gave Zachary previously was the New Year’s monetary gift.
It seems like Zachary is treating me as his ATM, asking for 30 thousand dollars so randomly.
Getting no response, Zachary frowned his eyebrows. “What’ s the matter? Is there something wrong?”
“Zachary, my dad wants me to vacate this house as my distant relative had come over so…” Edward said awkwardly.
Zachary’s expression fell instantly and was infuriated.
I treat him as my brother, but now he wants to chase me out! Zachary could not take it.
“Don’t be so hard on yourself. We will leave as soon as possible and won’t take over your house,” Zachary said aggressively.
“Zac, that’s not what I’m saying,” Edward replied. “I’m not lying! I really have a relative coming over, and he is going to stay for a long time.”
“Stop explaining,” Zachary interrupted him directly. Then, he turned his head to Whitney and said, “Whitney, let’s pack up and leave.”
Whitney glanced at Edward, then turned to look at her angry brother. She then returned to the room and packed up their belongings.
Watching both of them leave, Edward wanted to say something but eventually said nothing.
He didn’t want to do that, but his father had warned him that he must chase them out.
It was because Ms. Whitney was from the Larson Group. So, there was a high chance that she would inherit the properties of the Larson Family.
As for Zachary and Whitney, they were destined for a tragedy.
Anyone else could sense that Jessica had a bad relationship with the stepchildren. So, Clarke’s family would not do something to offend Jessica for two useless people for sure.
Zachary immediately called his friend after he brought Whitney out angrily.
“Hudson, It’s me, Zachary.”
“Oh, Zac. Is there anything I can help you with?” he asked randomly.
“Hudson, you did ask me to stay at your place for a few days, didn’t you? I’m free now. Do you welcome me?”
Hudson pushed away from the beautiful woman beside him and said, “Oh Zac, what unfortunate timing. I’m on vacation in the South Chanaea Sea. Once I go back, I will pick you up immediately. I still have something to do here. I’ll contact you later.”
I will get detested by others if I take over the abandoned guy. Before Zachary could reply, Hudson hung up the phone.
Zachary dialed his other friends after Hudson hung up on him ruthlessly.
All of them had different reasons – busy, bad signal, or not convenient at the moment.
He was dumbfounded! In just half a month, everything changed. His friends avoided him like the plague when they interacted with him.
Whitney tried to call her besties and friends as well. All of them have their reason to reject her.
“It must be that savage girl who instigated Mom and Dad to force us to go home,” Zachary said lividly.
Zachary had never been in this awkward situation since he was born.
“Zac, what should we do now?” Whitney gave Zachary a helpless look.
“Don’t worry, let’s stay in the hotel for now.”
He had some money with him that he borrowed from
Edward. Although it was not much, that was enough for them to stay in the hotel for a few nights.
In order to save money, both of them checked into a 4-star hotel and chose the most basic hotel room.
Chapter 177
As they checked into the hotel, Jessica received an update with pictures attached from the private investigator.
She scrolled through the series of pictures of two people entering and exiting a room together. They seemed intimate.
She zoomed in on Zachary’s face and noted his gaze and thought that she had to safeguard this picture.
Zachary, Whitney, Yves, Yonah… Oh, this is interesting!
Jessica was twiddling a bottle filled with shriveled mouse tails. She murmured to herself, “It’s time you guys meet and play a game. Oh yes, what game should you play?”
Yara had just come home when she saw that her brother was drunk and her father groaning in bed in pain. “Yara, save me.” He pleaded with his eyes.
Yara averted her gaze at the piteous sight.
“Yara.” Oliver moaned.
He never stopped whimpering the whole night. The pain had rendered him unable to sleep and verbal expression was the only way for him to manage his agony.
The next morning their neighbors chastised her. “Yara, do you not care about your father anymore?”
“Yara, although your father favors his son, he never
mistreated you. Are you going to watch as he wastes away?”
“It’s not my place to say this, but are you that cruel to ignore your dad’s cries for help last night?”
Yara lowered her head and hurried away.
What should I have done? What could I have done?
Her sleep had been fitful from her father’s whines the entire night. She was distracted at work, accidentally overturning a cup of coffee on a customer. Yara had to fork out a few days’ worth of salary as compensation and was fired from her job.
She sank to her haunches at the side of a road, completely at rock bottom, feeling helpless and lost.
Suddenly, three familiar silhouettes appeared at a distance. It was Jessica, Samantha, and Daisy. They were clad in clean, new clothes, laughing and talking amongst themselves.
Why are our fates so different despite being the same age? They live like princesses but I work so hard for scraps. It’s not fair. This is really not fair!
Yara stood up and marched toward Jessica.
Samantha saw Yara approaching and nudged Jessica’s arm, saying, “It’s Yara.”
“Why are you here? If you have any bad intentions toward Jessica, you’d have to get through Samantha and me,” Daisy warned Yara, who had coffee stains all over her clothes and was looking a little worse for wear.
Yara’s eyes were trained on Jessica while Yara completely ignored Daisy. “May I have a word with you alone? I have something to ask you.”
“Don’t listen to this scheming bitch. It’s too dangerous,” Daisy tried to stop Jessica.
Jessica shrugged nonchalantly. “Fine.”
Both of them walked toward a nearby park. Daisy slanted a look at Samantha and asked, “Are you not worried about Yara harboring ill intentions?”
Samantha sniggered, “You should be more worried about what Jessica will do to her.”
She had seen what Jessica could do. She was not worried about Yara harming Jessica.
As Yara and Jessica sat on a bench in a park that was devoid of visitors, the twittering of birds and the chirping of crickets could be heard.
“Did you plan this?” Yara questioned.
쇼
Chapter 178
“Plan what?” Jessica tilted her head and widened her eyes as she looked at Yara.
“That day by the school entrance, you told me to look for you if I become desperate and out of options. Now I am desperate and out of options, and you should know why.” Yara gritted her teeth as she spoke.
“Of course I do.”
“A blatant admittance. How did I not realize how calculating you were?” Yara was angry.
Jessica chuckled in response. “I’ve known your family for ten whole years and I know how much integrity – or lack thereof – you guys possess. Is it hard to guess the reason behind your family’s downfall?”
“Don’t paint yourself as the victim. You had an ulterior motive when you first became close to us.” Yara sneered.
Yes, I had a motive. In my past life, I had always tried to pursue that objective. It was something I always yearned for and dreamed about, something elusive for an orphan like me. To achieve that I had to compromise and ended up paying the price. Now, I’ve learned not to pine for something I will never get.
“You’re here just for this?”
Yara stayed silent.
Jessica stood up and was about to leave when Yara said, ” Wait.”
Jessica stopped, turned on her heel, and watched Yara wordlessly.
Tension gathered in Yara’s chest. In the end, she lost against her internal struggle. “You said you’d give me another chance. Does that offer still stand?”
“Yes,” Jessica answered emphatically.
“In that case, please help me. Help my family,” Yara said woodenly, her eyes cold. Anyone would have thought she was offering help instead of seeking it.
喻
“Are you asking for help or ordering me?”
“I…” Yara gritted her teeth.
I have lowered myself to her. What more does she want! Yara was simmering in hate but kept the emotion from showing on her face.
Yara tamped down the humiliation and hatred and leveled Jessica with tear-filled eyes. “Jess, I was wrong for what I did. I was dumb to believe others’ instigation and made many mistakes. I’m sorry. Please help me for old times’ sake. I will forever be grateful to you and return the favor.” Yara shot Jessica a bewildered glance when the latter was silent for a long time. Have I not done enough? Sensing Yara’s impatience, Jessica replied leisurely, “How sincere were you when you said those words?”
Jessica was not the same person as before to go easy and unconditionally help her with a few words of platitudes.
Yara’s eyes narrowed and she knelt in front of Jessica with a thud. “I beg you, please help my family and me.” Her head was lowered, hiding her rage and bitter resentment.
Jessica, one day I will repay today’s degradation a millionfold. Just wait.
Jessica looked at Yara’s rigid stance and smirked. She could guess what was going on in Yara’s head but did not care one bit.
Chapter 179
Yara once gave Jessica hope and then took it all away. Jessica could still remember how it felt; it was something she would never forget.
Now she was giving Yara a taste of her own medicine.
“Get up,” Jessica said.
Yara followed and stood quietly. “Jess, will you forgive me now?”
“Forgive you? No.” She would never forgive Yara for pushing her off the precipice.
“Then I’ll continue kneeling until I earn your forgiveness.”
Jessica waved. “No need. I’ll give you another chance, but do you have what it takes to dig your family out of shambles and perhaps even ascend the upper crust? If you don’t, then there’s nothing I could do. You only have one chance.”
“What should I do?” Yara was tempted.
“Lansing Group will be celebrating its fiftieth anniversary next week. Many top business figures in Horington attend the event. I’ll get you in, but finding a patron will be up to you.”
Yara was in disbelief that Jessica would help her. “A-Are you sure?” Her heart galloped in exhilaration. She had always coveted attending a banquet with the high society of Horington.
“Of course.
“But I don’t have a proper dress or jewelry,” Yara said, seizing the opportunity.
“I extended an invitation to you, so naturally, I’ll take care of that. You’d only have to doll up and show up on time. This is my last time helping you. I’m doing this for your father, not you.”
“I’ll make use of this opportunity. I will not disappoint you.”
Gone was her acrimony; Yara was now fantasizing about what her future would hold.
“I hope so,” Jessica observed the unabashed greed twinkling in Yara’s eyes and smirked.
Jessica would not burst her bubble, seeing that a nightmare was upon her.
Daisy caught sight of Jessica walking out of the park alone. Her eyes raked Jessica, and after ascertaining that she was not missing any limbs, Daisy huffed a breath of relief.
“I thought Yara was desperate enough to harm you.” “Don’t worry. She doesn’t have the guts to do it.” Jessica smiled.
“Let’s go.”
Yara emerged from the park as they left. Staring at the trio, she swore that she would secure a benefactor by whatever means necessary.
She didn’t want to live in a hovel anymore or to be pushed around by other people.
She wanted everything that Jessica had.
When the trio was safely in the Maybach, Daisy said cryptically, “I have good news. A mysterious honored guest will be attending Lansing Group’s anniversary banquet next week. Rumor has it that he’s Sebastian Ferguson, the esteemed doctor.”
“Sebastian?” Samantha wore a look of pure wonder that matched how she felt. “The Lewis family is phenomenal to be able to invite him.”
“I heard this from Zayne, so I’m unclear about the details. When this rumor gets leaked, many top business figures and bigwigs will be swarming to meet him. An invitation to this banquet is now equivalent to a golden ticket.”
“Sebastian Ferguson? Is he that prominent?” Jessica blurted out and promptly received death stares from Daisy and Samantha.
Chapter 180
Daisy gaped as if she was looking at a cavewoman.
“You really don’t know him?”
Jessica felt ashamed because she really didn’t know who Sebastian was.
She didn’t even know the celebrities, let alone doctors.
Samantha faked a cough as she tried to regain her composure and said calmly, “Sebastian is the best neurologist in this country. Oh, that’s not right. He is a world-renowned genius doctor specializing in neurology.” Daisy interrupted, “That’s not how you describe him. Jess, you wouldn’t believe how incredible Sebastian is.”
She continued, “Three years ago, a top government official in our country needed to undergo a seemingly impossible surgery. All the expert neurologists from other countries said the surgery could not be performed since the success rate was lower than ten percent. However, Sebastian stood up and took the case. He did it, and it was a success.”
“That’s when everyone started to notice his existence. Previously he had always kept a low profile doing research in his laboratory. If it wasn’t for that one surgery, no one would know how incredible his skills were,” Daisy explained with her eyes full of admiration.
She continued, “That was his first time garnering public attention. Six months later, the literature expert, Mark Peters, had a heart attack. Since he was already quite old and there were several other complications, the doctor suggested he undergo a heart bypass surgery.”
Daisy paused and said, “At that time, not a single doctor throughout the country dared to carry out the surgery. They asked Mr. Peters’ family to prepare for the worst. Finally, it was Mr. Peter’s family who requested help from Sebastian to carry out that surgery, which turned out to be a success.”
She then added, “Later, he demonstrated his superb skills again and successfully completed several complicated surgeries. Everyone gave him the title ‘God’s Hand’ for his incredible skills.” 昌
Samantha interrupted, “I heard that he is specialized in neurology but he is also competent in other fields. Several top research institutes overseas asked him to join them, but he didn’t. What’s more important is that besides having incredible medical skills, he is also a hunk.”
Samantha’s eyes brightened up when she started to talk about his looks.
“No one doubts his medical skills. The richer a person, the more that person values life. Since everyone experiences sickness at some point, who wouldn’t want to be on good terms with a genius doctor? Who knows, one day you might need his help, too!”
Samantha continued to describe this talented doctor. “I heard that he is not a money-oriented person. It doesn’t mean that he will help you even if you can offer loads of money: if he likes you, he will treat you even if you can’t pay. However, if he finds you an eyesore, he won’t do anything even if you entice him with all the money in the world.” “He usually stays in his research lab after carrying out his surgeries. That is why we rarely see him. Many people tried to get close to him but they couldn’t find him. Now that he’s going to show up at the banquet, I’m sure no one wants to miss this chance. Everyone wants to get acquainted with him!”
“Well, I guess these people are just trying to live longer,” Jessica concluded.
Meanwhile, both Whitney and Zachary had used up all their remaining money and were forced to leave the hotel.
Standing on the street with suitcases in their hands, they had nowhere to go.
