Obsessed With Her Novel by Master Momo (Chapters 151, 152, 153, 154, 155, 156, 157, 158, 159, 160)

Chapter 151

Yara was panic-stricken by the unexpected turn of events. Therefore, she did not know what to do.

“All the money we have is going into your dad’s medical treatment,” Stella cried. Although she was in her forties, her hands looked as if they belonged to a sixty-year-old woman.

“Mom, please don’t cry. I’ll think of something,” Yara comforted her.

I don’t know what to do! Our relatives are not wealthy by any means and our neighbors are struggling financially. Who could lend us the money?!

Stella suddenly said, “Yara, I heard that Jess belongs to a wealthy family – I’m sure she’s rich! You used to be good friends with her, so you should ask her for money. The amount we need is probably a loose change for her. We’ll be able to support our family as long as you get the money from her.”

Jessica? She is such a snobbish person. Would she talk to me? Would she lend me the money?

Yara was very hesitant, but right now, Jessica was the only one who could help her family get through this.

She had to compromise when she saw the eager eyes of her mother and brother, so she immediately nodded and said, “I’ll find her and borrow money from her.”

“You should get going,” Stella urged.

“I’ll go tomorrow,” Yara replied. She wanted to see how her father was doing.

Stella pinched Yara’s arm and scolded her. “Are you stupid? The money we have now is only enough to cover the deposit! We don’t have enough money for your father’s treatment! There is no point for you to stay here, so you go get the money from that girl right now!”

Having heard what her mother said, Yara left the hospital immediately.

At the Larson residence, Jessica’s cheeks were flushed when she walked out of her bathroom in her bathrobe. She went to her vanity table and opened the bottom drawer. She then opened the wooden box and placed a bloody mouse tail into the glass bottle, making the container one-third full. Her eyes darkened as she looked at the mouse tails in the bottle.

“There will be more of you very soon. Don’t worry. She’s almost here,” she whispered to her bottle.

Knock! Knock! Knock!

When Jessica heard someone knocking at the door, she calmly placed the bottle back into the drawer.

“Come in.”

Willow walked into the bedroom and said, “Ms. Jessica, there’s a call from the front gate saying that a good friend is looking for you. That person seems to have an urgent need to see you. Do you want to meet whoever is at the gate?”

“Really? Well, my only friend is Samantha. If it is not her, I’m not interested,” Jessica replied while slowly drying her hair.

“I understand. Please rest well, Ms. Jessica.”

Yara was waiting anxiously outside the mansion. After the security guard answered the phone, he barked, “She doesn’t know you at all! You should leave!”

“How could she not know me? I grew up with her! We were best friends!”

“Why don’t you give your best friend a call?”

Yara felt embarrassed because when she tried to call Jessica, her call did not go through.

When did she block my number?

“Can you ask her one more time? Could you please tell her I am Yara? I need to see her urgently.”

The security guard brushed her off and said, “This is a private residence. You can’t continuously harass the owner! You should leave right now. Leave!”

Yara was ruthlessly driven out. She helplessly looked at the gate behind her. At that moment, she felt a deep hatred for Jessica inside her heart.

Jessica, I hope you rot in hell!

Yara hugged her knees and cried helplessly on the ground. She felt as if she was suffocating because her mother had placed all the pressure on her.

You are the only person I could reach out to for help. How could you be so heartless? How can I not hate you? If anything happens to Dad, I will make you pay!

Chapter 152

At the Fairview Ventures headquarters, the secretary pushed open the CEO’s door and placed a thick stack of documents on the table. The secretary then took a few steps away from the table and started to report the CEO’s schedule for the day.

“There will be a meeting with Mr. Woods in the afternoon and a business reception in the evening. Mr. Hugh, I’ve finished my investigation of the girl you requested the other day. This is all her information, as well as the surveillance video from that day. Everything is sent to your email. Another noteworthy fact is that she knows Mr. Jack Ferguson. Mr. Ferguson went out of his way to help her at her birthday party by making Richard Salvatore attend the event on behalf of the Ferguson family.”

Hugh, who had been staring at his documents, raised his head to look at his chief assistant and murmured, “That’s interesting.”

Hugh then immediately opened the corresponding email and read through the file quickly at a glance.

Jake said, “From the video, it appears that Ms. Jessica unintentionally bumped into Zander and helped him by chance.”

Hugh played the video with his eyes locked on Jessica. His sharp gaze scrutinized her from her movement to her facial expression. Suddenly, he paused the video and zoomed in and out on the image. Hugh was amused upon discovering something very interesting.

“By chance? That might not be true,” Hugh said in a calm and indifferent voice.

Jake was stunned when he heard Hugh’s words.

If it’s not by chance, she must have deliberately waited for Zander. This young girl is quite remarkable!

His eyes immediately fell on his boss when the idea popped into his head. It almost slipped his mind that his boss was the most gifted person he knew.

I have seen what my boss could do. Maybe this girl is like him.

In the evening, a Maybach drove slowly on the road. It was rush hour and traffic was congested.

Hugh raised his arm and looked at his watch. The moment he saw the time, he raised his eyes and looked out the window at the never-ending line of cars in front of him.

“Pull over right there,” Hugh ordered.

The driver pulled over by the curb and parked on the roadside.

Jake immediately got out of the car with Hugh. Upon checking the time and estimating it would take them twenty minutes to get to the hotel, Jake figured they would arrive just in time for the meeting.

“From here, we should walk toward the direction of St. Daniel. We should arrive in fifteen minutes,” Jake said.

Meanwhile, about 600 feet away from the two, at the entrance of the college, a show was about to start.

Yara waited for Jessica outside the gate for a while now. The moment she saw Jessica, Samantha, and Daisy coming out from a distance, she took a deep breath and cheered herself on.

“Yara, your pride is not important. As long as you get the money, everything will be fine,” Yara mumbled to herself continuously.

When the trio inched toward Yara, she rushed over and blocked their way.

“Jess, please! Save my dad! Only you can help him now. I beg you! Please save him! I will do whatever you ask me to do!” Yara cried out in a loud voice.

In an instant, her voice attracted the attention of all the students in the area. Even the students who were ready to go home had stopped and gathered around. The more people around, the sadder the expression on Yara’s face.

“Jess, my dad once helped you. Would you please help him now? I beg you!” she cried as tears filled her eyes.

Chapter 153

Yara’s father, Oliver Leon, had indeed helped her in the past, but she had returned his kindness tenfold.

When Jessica was younger, she wandered into the shanty part of town in the western suburbs. She met a group of thugs who tried to take advantage of her. It was Oliver who showed up and chased those thugs away. He even gave her a bowl of warm soup. This was something she had always kept in her heart.

Jessica went out of her way to help his family whenever she could. She even desperately tried to save him when a thug pushed him into a river. She almost drowned that time. She managed to get out of the water but then fell very ill soon afterward.

Because of his kindness, Jessica protected the son and daughter of the Leon family in primary school. When St. Daniel College was accepting new students, she gave up her place for Yara.

In her previous life, when she returned to the Leon family, she helped them by spending all of her pocket money on their necessities. She gave them food, clothing, and even a place to live.

The Leon family, on the other hand, did not reciprocate her kindness. When she ran away from the Larsons, Jessica went to the Leon family and asked for some money so that she could escape. They promised her but then betrayed her in an instant. The Larsons recaptured her and the Leons did nothing to help her. They said they did it for her own good, but in truth, they were the ones who pushed her toward her demise. In her previous life, she had done everything she could to help them, only to be betrayed in the end.

She had already paid off that kindness. In this life, she would be a saint if she helped them again. Jessica could differentiate between kindness and grudges. She would repay kindness with kindness but if she was wronged or hurt, it would be an eye of an eye.

At this point in time, Yara was crying in front of Jessica. Jessica looked at Yara coldly because she felt indifferent to her pleas and tears. In Jessica’s eyes, those were crocodile tears.

“Get out of the way,” Jessica said coldly.

Yara did not move an inch and continued to block the way as if she was showing Jessica that she would not leave unless given what she wanted.

“Jess, I know I don’t deserve to be your friend. You are the daughter of a rich family and I am poor. Can’t you think back to the good old times? Please help us! If you help us, I won’t bug you anymore!” Yara said so sincerely that many people around them were moved.

She continued, “My dad is still in the hospital and I don’t know whether he will live or die! We really don’t have money! Would you please help me this time? I will remember your kindness. Please, I beg you! I will get on my knees if that is what it takes for you to lend me some money!”

Yara tried to kneel but Daisy held on to her and stopped her. A pair of hands then grabbed Daisy’s arm. Daisy saw Jessica shaking her head at her and immediately understood what that meant. Slowly, Daisy let go of Yara.

When Yara saw Daisy let go of her, she froze on the spot because she did not know whether to kneel or not.

Jessica looked at Yara coldly, as if taunting the latter to kneel. Daisy was finally able to tell that Yara was acting the whole time.

It was now clear to Daisy that Yara had planned to use public opinion to pressure Jessica into helping her. By doing so, Yara would gain sympathy from everyone and, in a way, make Jessica the villain.

In fact, Daisy tried to stop Yara from kneeling in the first place precisely because she did not want Jessica’s reputation to be damaged.

Daisy found Yara despicable.

Your dad is dying! How could you still be in the mood to play such a dirty trick on Jessica?

Daisy did not know Jessica that well but having gotten to know her a little better over time, Daisy thought the latter was a rather interesting person.

Chapter 154

Jessica seemed cold and kept a distance from everyone but once Daisy befriended her, she came to realize that Jessica was very caring and considerate.

Daisy noticed everyone around her was looking at Jessica in a bad light; she felt upset. She hated pretentious people. When she looked at Yara, she felt that Yara was on par with Whitney. Just as Yara started to stand up, Daisy immediately mocked her, “Why aren’t you kneeling?”

Yara turned stiff for a moment but then continued to make a sad face, crying as she pleaded.

“Jess, I really don’t need much. I just want fifteen thousand dollars from you. This might just be enough to buy a few bags or a piece of jewelry, but that amount is enough to save my dad’s life!”

Many students around them showed sympathy toward Yara and thought the trio was being mean.

A chubby girl came out of the crowd and shouted, “I’ll give you the money.”

Daisy frowned when she saw that it was Monica Hanks. Just as she was about to pass the money to Yara, Jessica grabbed Monica’s hands.

“You could send her the money later,” Jessica said as Monica gave Jessica a doubtful look.

I’ve underestimated you. Your dirty trick is killing two birds with one stone. You made me look like a villain so that you could gain everyone else’s sympathy. You’re using the crowd to pressure me into giving you what you want, and if I don’t do that, someone will feel bad for you and give you money. I can’t stop your wrongdoing but you shouldn’t use me as a villain to achieve your goal. I won’t let you!

“Yara Leon, I’ll give you a chance. I want you to answer me in front of everyone. Didn’t I show your family much more kindness than what you guys showed me? Did I let your family down, or is it the other way around? Remember, you have only one chance,” Jessica slowly said.

Yara was slightly stunned when she heard Jessica’s words, but without thinking she immediately answered, “Jess, you said it yourself before. If it weren’t for my father, you would not be here today!”

Very well!

When people heard Yara’s words, they immediately began to chatter amongst themselves. Jessica did not say anything; instead, she smiled silently.

“Gosh! I didn’t expect Jessica to be this kind of person. She’s really cruel.”

“Yara’s dad once saved her life! Now that it’s her chance to save him, she becomes indifferent and even makes Yara kneel down. She’s ruthless!”

“Fifteen thousand dollars means nothing to her!”

“It’s disgusting to see that she has become such a snob after getting rich!”

“Ungrateful people are the worst! You don’t know when they will stab you in the back!”

“How could the Young family and Ferguson family favor her? She is not even a good person! She is a wicked girl!”

“Shh! Keep your voice down. It will be the end of you if she hears what you said! Didn’t you see what happened to Whitney and the others when they offended her?”

“Whitney was very unfortunate to have been kicked out by the Larsons. I heard that James didn’t want her anymore.”

Samantha and Daisy were infuriated when they heard people around them slandering Jessica.

Yara had tears in her eyes but deep down she was overjoyed.

Beyond the crowd, no one noticed the arrival of two smart-looking men. Everyone was too busy watching the scene unfold in front of them.

Jake was surprised to see that the commotion centered on the very girl who had caught his boss’ attention.

Hugh’s eyes swept over Yara and the others, but when he saw Jessica, his eyes darkened as he judged her from head to toe.

Chapter 155

It was obvious that by now, Yara had garnered the sympathies of the crowd as they cast disparaging looks at Jessica.

Unlike the rest of the onlookers, the two men were farther away from the crowd. They were both watching Yara’s dramatics with sardonic smiles.

Jake’s arched eyebrows spoke volumes about his disdain toward Yara. Her spurious antics can only fool the ignorant who can’t see through the pretense.

As Hugh’s chief assistant, he dutifully glanced at his watch and noted that it was about time for Hugh to leave, lest they be late for their next appointment.

He attempted to point out the time to Hugh, but the man beside him showed no sign of leaving, his rapt attention focused solely on the scene before him.

Shrugging mentally, Jake dropped the idea of nudging Hugh along. After all, if his boss wanted to stay, who was he to intervene with?

Jake’s gaze returned to Jessica as well. I’m kind of interested too to see what she’d do next.

Hugh looked pensive as he studied Jessica’s features intently. The more he looked at her, the more he felt a strange familiarity toward this girl who radiated a delicate yet almost icy beauty. As compared to when he observed her on video, now that he saw her in person, the feeling that he had known her from somewhere became quite hard to shake off.

Jessica appeared not at all affected by public condemnation. She laughed quietly to herself, sweeping her gaze across the crowd. “What a bunch of idiots,” she drawled, the mockery plain in both her tone and her eyes. “I see that it takes the wit of a fool to appreciate the art of another.”

Oh, burn! The retort was enough to crack Jake’s straight-faced expression. He broke out into a grin as he looked at Jessica with unreserved approval. It’s clear she has zero fucks and isn’t afraid of showing it. Nice!

The crowd consisted mostly of students from St. Daniel College, all of whom were aware of what had happened to Edith and her friends when they tried to sabotage Jessica. Hence, despite being ticked off by her, they could do nothing more than curse her under their breath.

Surprise flashed in Yara’s eyes before melting away into a knowing look. She quickly dipped her head to hide it. Jessica’s lost her cool… She doesn’t care about upsetting the rest. I can work this to my advantage to turn the others against her even more.

By the time Yara raised her head, fresh tears had already filled her eyes. “Jess,” she said, sounding even more piteous in her trembling voice, “I know you don’t like me. You can direct your anger at me all you want, but please… You don’t have to snub at the other students here. They didn’t do anything wrong. The Jess I knew wasn’t like this before… You’ve changed.”

What she said put everyone’s thoughts into words. The crowd was now viewing her even more favorably while their contempt for Jessica deepened further.

The target of their loathing only smirked in response. “I’m just saying it as it is. The truth is, your dad did help me by giving me some food.

But your family has cashed in that favor a long time ago. Why don’t you tell the others of how I nearly lost my life saving your dad, huh? Or that time I gave you all of my savings so that you and your brother could pay tuition? Or how about that time I got seriously injured fighting off the gangsters harassing you two? Oh, and let’s not forget about me helping to take care of your mother dearest when she was deathly ill; I was the one who nursed her all the way back to health. I don’t know what else you and your family still expect of me but I’ve already paid my debt in full and then some. Do you know why you managed to enroll at this college in the first place when we both went for the placement exam? It’s because I deliberately surrendered my seat to you. If I hadn’t, you wouldn’t even be here right now.”

She looked at Yara straight in the eyes with cool disdain. “So tell me again, Yara – do I still owe you and your family anything? The way I see it, you’re a bunch of freeloading ingrates whose only goal in life is to milk me dry while stabbing me in the back. Speaking of which, would you like to tell everyone how you’ve been helping Edith and her friends spread rumors about me and besmirch my name at my own birthday party with that dirty little stunt?”

Yara’s face paled further with every word that came out of Jessica. She opened and closed her mouth wordlessly, trying but failing miserably to find a comeback.

Jessica scoffed at her dumb look. “Sure, fifteen thousand dollars are peanuts to me, but why in the world would I continue to let you leech off me?”

Chapter 156

Yara tried to retaliate using the only way she knew – by ramping up her theatrics. “Oh Jess,” she wept. “I didn’t know… Is that how you’ve always seen me?”

“Gross,” Samantha muttered, disgusted by Yara’s relentless attempt to play the victim.

Jessica took out her phone. “Why don’t we let everyone else be the judge of the kind of person you are?”

She tapped something on the phone. The next instant, every student present received an alert on their phones.

Checking her phone, Monica saw that an email had been sent to her along with an attachment. Once opened, it contained the video that was played at Jessica’s birthday party, showing everyone how Yara and Henry Lowe had conspired against Jessica.

As many of the students at St. Daniel had not been invited to Jessica’s birthday party, they were not privy to the details of the incident. They had only heard through the grapevine that an attempt to spread rumors about Jessica had backfired on Edith and the other girls.

Seeing the actual video now helped to shed new light on their perceptions of the incident.

Like the rest, Yara had received the same email and video attachment. Watching the video play out before her, Yara widened her eyes in shock. If her face had been pale before, it was now drained of all color as her heart clenched in fear. Why didn’t anyone tell me there’s a video?!

She was only aware that the plan had failed because the Youngs and Fergusons intervened and that there was an audio recording of Edith and the rest scheming against Jessica.

However, she was completely oblivious to the existence of the video recording of her and Henry. Her mind buzzed with dread. Was Jessica saving the video for this moment?

Those who had gone to Jessica’s birthday party and watched the video back then only had their attention on Henry as they did not know Yara yet. Now, however, they were quickly becoming aware of what she had done.

Yael and a few others who were closest to Yara had not attended the birthday party, so there was no way that they would have known, either.

Upon realizing the truth of the matter, the crowd turned on Yara. Irked at having been played, those who openly voiced their support of her earlier were now disparaging her with the same vigor.

“Whoa, she’s such an ingrate.”

“Not only is she ungrateful, she’s also underhanded. It shames me that she attends the same school as all of us.”

“She’s the kind of person I hate the most… And to think that I was sympathetic toward her just now! Never again.”

“She should be kicked out of our school!”

“I agree! There’s no place here for someone like her.”

“If everything that Jessica said about her and her family is true, then they’re a truly terrible bunch. I’d also cut them out of my life if I were Jessica.”

“I can’t believe she’s still brazenly asking Jessica for money after she stabbed her in the back!”

“She’s a bitch, no questions asked.”

Yara could feel herself crumbling under the lambasting from the others. Everywhere she looked, she saw nothing but faces of anger and disgust directed toward her.

Why is she so hell-bent on destroying me? Biting her lip, Yara’s eyes brimmed with tears of hatred as she glared viciously at Jessica.

The latter paid her no mind and glanced at Monica instead. “It’s up to you if you still want to give her your money.” If Monica is still willing to extend a helping hand to Yara despite knowing her true nature, then it’s not my business to interfere.

Jessica’s words snapped Yara out of her stupor. She grabbed

Monica’s hand was in a tight grip. “Please,” Yara begged. “I know I did something terrible, but my dad didn’t do anything wrong. Please help him.”

Chapter 157

Monica stared at the pathetic-looking girl in front of her, then at the rest of the crowd who continued to flay the latter. Plagued by her internal struggle, she was silent for a long moment before her indecisive look melted away into determination. “I’m still going to help her,” she announced loudly.

Jessica nodded. For the first time since the farce started, there was a hint of a genuine smile in her eyes.

Hugh and Jake had surmised that she would make use of the video the moment Jessica pulled out her phone, though they did not foresee that she would choose to send it to everyone.

Both of them had to admit that it was a smart move. Simple yet effective, it essentially pulled the plug on Yara’s stunt and turned her into the villain that she was.

Satisfied with the outcome, Hugh left with Jake in tow.

“Does she look like anyone you know?” Hugh asked after a stretch of silence.

Slightly taken aback, Jake shook his head. He searched his memories for clues but nothing came up.

Hugh did not pursue the topic further. He was quiet for the rest of their journey, frowning in contemplation.

Meanwhile, Jessica whispered into Yara’s ear, “Feel free to come to me if you really find yourself in a predicament,” she said in an undertone. “Maybe, just maybe, I’ll give you one more chance.”

Yara gaped. What the fuck did she mean by that? Does she actually mean it or does she just want to toy with me?

While the rest did not catch what Jessica had said, Samantha, who was closest to the two, did.

Samantha was surprised. It’s not like Jess at all to offer her help after everything that the family has done to her, especially when she’s well aware that Yara’s family is just using her.

Dismissing Yara’s look of shock, Jessica left with Samantha and Daisy without a backward glance. Knowing that the show was over, the crowd slowly dispersed as well.

The incident no doubt made Yara an infamous figure throughout St. Daniel College.

However, just when everyone thought that everything was done and dusted, things took another surprising turn on that very night.

A short video had made its way online. Titled Ungrateful Rich Girl Refused to Help Those Who Saved Her Life, the video lasted two minutes and showed only the part where Yara begged Jessica for help. What Jessica said later on revealed Yara’s true nature, however, was suspiciously missing from the clip.

Jessica’s apathy in the video was a stark contrast to Yara’s piteous begging. As a result, anyone who watched the video that was taken out of context was led to think that Jessica was being ruthlessly cruel to the poor girl who was only trying to save her ailing father.

Within an hour, the video had been reposted by tens of thousands of people, and it continued to gain traction with each passing minute to the point that it gained the attention of mainstream media.

Sensing news in the making, the reporters flooded the hospital where Yara’s father was. Upon confirming that the man was indeed sick and lacked the means to pay for his medical bills, all of the reporters were practically itching to type out a sob story that would highlight the plight of a poor family while condemning the rich.

Yara had just arrived at her father’s ward when the reporters swarmed around her, eager to get a quote for their story.

“Ms. Leon, is that viral video real?”

“Ms. Leon, is it true that your friend has refused to help you?”

“Is there anything you would like to say to her?”

Yara’s head swam with the countless questions they threw at her. “No comments.”

With that, she managed to shove her way past the reporters and into the ward before closing the door on them.

Chapter 158

Stella pulled her daughter aside at once. “What’s going on? Isn’t that money from Jess?” she asked in a low voice.

“No, she refused to give us any money. The fifteen thousand dollars are from someone else.”

“What!” Stella’s face clouded with rage. “She can’t say no to us! She would’ve been dead if not for us. What’s a little money to her anyway? She’s so rich now.”

Yara shook her head. “Mom, Jessica’s changed. She’s no longer the person who agrees to whatever we ask of her.” It had become clear to her, after the last encounter with Jessica, just how ruthless and cold the latter had become. Before, Jessica was kind not just to her and her family, but to everyone else. She was the selfless kind of person who was content to keep on giving and never asked for anything in return.

Yara once asked her why she was so kind and generous to everyone. Jessica smiled and said, “It makes me feel like I’m not alone in this world. If I were gone one day, I’d know that somewhere out there, someone might remember me and what I did for them. This way, I’d know that I’ve made a difference.”

That’s right… Yara thought, realization dawning on her. &ltJessica was nice to us because she was alone and lonely. She didn’t have a family, so she tried her best to ingratiate herself with the ones around her to make her feel needed and loved. But now that she has a real family – and a rich one at that – she doesn’t see the need to be nice anymore.

Stella, on the other hand, could not care less about why Jessica had changed. She was only concerned about not being able to extort more favors from her in the future.

“Was she just mad at you because you did something to upset her?” she asked Yara dubiously.

“No, I didn’t do anything to her,” Yara said indignantly, affronted that her mother would think it was her fault when the blame was entirely on Jessica. “She’s the one who tried to cut me out of her life now that she’s rich. Don’t you think I’ve tried to get on her good side, Mom? It’s just that none of my attempts worked. She even said that we’re a bunch of ingrates and that she doesn’t owe us anything.” Reminded of the video that had gone viral, Yara searched for it online and showed it to her mother.

Stella watched the video with eyes widened and jaw agape. “That girl’s not going to turn her back on us, is she?” she asked, voice rising in frustration and anxiety. She had been counting on Jessica to provide for the family. What will we do if she stops her aid to us?

“Key in her number,” Stella told her daughter, waving the latter’s phone at her. “I’ll give Jessica a call now.”

“It’s no use, Mom. She blocked my number.”

Her mouth pressed into a thin line, Stella turned to her son and snatched away his phone, heedless of his loud protestations. “Key in her number.” She passed the phone to Yara and said in a steely voice that brooked no argument. Jessica’s phone rang just as she emerged from her shower. A single, slender brow arched wryly when she saw the caller’s name displayed on the screen.

Stella’s raucous voice sounded from the phone the

moment Jessica answered it. “Jess, it’s me, Stella. Were you upset because of something Yara did? Don’t worry, I’ll make sure she apologizes to you, okay?”

“Is that all? I’m hanging up now,” Jessica replied coolly.

Not expecting such an impassive reply, Stella faltered. There was a pause before she tried again with a different tactic. “Jess, you haven’t forgotten that my husband had saved your life once, have you? He’s hospitalized now… Aren’t you going to do something to help?”

Chapter 159

Money was all that mattered at the end of the day.

Previously, Jessica was more desperate for others’ care and concern.

She would hand out money, and these people would shower her with love. It felt rather heartwarming.

After all, it was what she deeply desired.

While she was acutely aware that it was purely transactional, she still willingly did it.

At that time, she naively thought that these people would treat her like their own.

However, the lady learned her lesson. She finally realized that these were all superficial relationships.

They would do anything for money, including stabbing her in the back when required.

“I have already returned the Leon family’s favor. Please do not contact me if there is nothing else.”

Stella turned angry at Jessica’s attitude. “I will tell the reporters outside that you are an ungrateful brat if you continue to behave like this!”

“Be my guest.”

Then, the line clicked.

She hung up the phone!

The veins on Stella’s neck popped as she cursed loudly. Thankfully, there were no other patients in the ward.

The next morning, Jessica was awakened by the loud ringing of her phone.

“Samantha!” Jessica groaned through gritted teeth.

Samantha did not care as she quickly explained, “Bad news, Jessica. The Leon family just flamed you on the Internet. There’s going to be a huge crowd of reporters outside your house now. Don’t come to school today. I guarantee you Jessica is Flamed On the Internet that they will try to catch you at school if you aren’t at home.” Jessica glanced at the clock. It was only half past six in the morning. Mustering all her strength, she muttered, “Got it.”

After ending the call, she opened the web browser on her phone and saw the news.

There was the original video from before, accompanied by an interview featuring Stella. Naturally, the woman lamented about Jessica’s ungrateful attitude and sought the public’s sympathy for this.

Jessica continued to scroll down to the comments.

As expected, most agreed with Stella and rebuked Jessica for behaving the way she did. Some even cursed her and launched personal attacks.

Silently, she locked her phone and tossed it on the bed. Jessica remained emotionless, as though nothing had happened.

Meanwhile, at Horington City in Horington Island.

Samantha rushed over to Charles’ place. However, nobody responded to her knocks.

“Derek, where is Uncle Charles?”

Derek responded with a smile, “Mr. Young flew to Moranta early this morning. I think he’s only returning a week later. If you have an urgent matter, you should call him.”

“Ugh! He’s never around when I need him! What good is he for!” Samantha exclaimed in exasperation.

Derek just laughed. He was not sure why Samantha was angry anyway.

At the same time, Jack entered a five-star restaurant in Marsingfill. The assistant had prepared breakfast for him beforehand.

After taking a seat, the assistant whispered, “Mr. Ferguson, I have some news for you.”

“What’s up?”

“Ms. Stone has been flamed on the Internet. Her details are getting dug up. She must be having a hard time.” Ever since the assistant knew that Jack treated Jessica differently, he began to pay closer attention to the lady’s affairs. Coincidentally, Jessica met with trouble today.

Jack placed his utensils down and logged onto his phone’s web browser.

As he scrolled through the video and hurtful comments, the expression on his face got darker and more terrifying.

Chapter 160

When the assistant saw the changes in Jack’s expression, he quickly added, “Mr. Ferguson, don’t act rashly. Why don’t you call Ms. Stone and ask her about it?”

The man glared at his assistant. Does he think I am that stupid?

Just as Jack was about to hit the dial button, he stopped.

It’s still early. She must be sleeping.

Hence, he sent a message to her instead.

On the other end, Jessica’s phone notification rang.

She pulled the covers above her head.

However, the notifications just kept ringing.

Her phone was exploding with messages!

Tugging the sheets down in frustration, she gritted her teeth and shouted, “Which idiot is this!”

She picked up her phone and saw six messages from Charles and Jack.

The lady began to read them one by one.

Charles: Don’t worry about Twitter. I will get someone to handle it. Stay at home. Don’t look for Samantha. Charles: I will get Samantha to configure your phone. Charles: Let me know if you ever need any help. Don’t ever feel embarrassed about it. You have helped Samantha a lot.

Jack: Are you awake?

Jack: Bad news. You’ve been flamed on the net. Good news. I can help you with it. Are you happy?

Jack: Reply to me when you wake up.

Jessica’s anger vanished into thin air as she discerned the concern from these two men.

She first replied to Charles, then texted Jack.

It was midnight in Moranta. Charles looked tired as he pinched his nose bridge and tugged at his tie. Suddenly, his phone vibrated twice.

He picked it up and read the messages.

Jessica: Thank you. I can handle this myself. I will let Samantha know if I need anything.

Charles raised his brows as he saw this.

He replied: You can let me know too.

Jessica gave an instant reply.

Her text read: All right. Thank you, Uncle Charles.

Charles was speechless at this.

It’s time for me to send Samantha back to Dellmoor!

Furthermore, the man sulked and looked sorrowful as he had just lost 15 thousand dollars.

“Ash, stop whatever we are doing now. Step in only if she can’t handle it alone. Keep an eye on the person who posted the video and leaked the information.”

“Noted, Mr. Young,” said Ash just as he wanted to get some rest.

At the same time, Jack had no appetite left for breakfast. His eyes were glued to his screen as he waited for Jessica’s reply.

He instantly opened up the notification when his phone screen lit up.

Jessica: I’m awake. Are you going to post a Tweet to support me?

Jack sighed with relief when he saw this.

It seems like she’s not affected by the incident. She’s still in a mood to joke.

He texted: That’s a good idea.

Jessica: No! Your fans will tear you apart. If you step in and say something, it will only escalate the matter. Don’t meddle. I have an idea of how to resolve this.

Jack frowned.

He cringed at the realization that Jessica was becoming distant from him.

Jack: Jessica, who am I to you?

I am a simple girl with a deep brown hair, and a brown eyes. As I grew up I was the laughing-stock of my cousins and playmates by teasing me "Negra" because I am not blessed with fair skin. Those memories just makes me "Smile" everytime I remember it, although I still have a dark skin but I love "Myself" Nakkkssss!!! I grew up in Castilla, Sorsogon, loved my elementary and high school but enjoyed most of my college days. Aside from my work I have other or rather many interest. I love adventure, learning new languages and it's culture, animals, natures, being out in the woods, in the mountains, long walks on the beach, in the rural areas, and i'm at home in the city as well. I'm a music enthusiast (any genre depend on my mood), a foodie, a portrait fanatic, and a movie buff. :) I can know a little bit about everything but I cannot master of anything. Personality wise, I think I am 30-50% good natured, 40 % charming, 15% sarcastic, 10% evil, 40% funny, 25% naugthy ;) :P, hmmm what else? ;) If you have a banner or Link Ads, an Articles, feel free to Email Me!
