Melody Strikes Back by Myra Walker (Chapters 691, 692, 693, 694, and 695)

Chapter 691

The doctor in charge of monitoring Sid’s physical condition reported repeatedly. “Blood pressure’s even lower!”

“His heartbeat is slowing down.”

“Oh no, his breathing has stopped!”

For a moment, everyone looked at Adrian.

“Adrian Russo, what should we do now?” They were only assistants. They could only listen to Adrian’s orders. However, Adrian was completely flustered at that moment. He looked at Sid’s pale face. Both of his hands were shaking.

“Adrian Russo, what should we do?”

“Shut up!” Adrian glared at them. “I don’t know what the f*ck to do!”

If it were any other patient, they would have gone out to make arrangements and let their family members come in to see the patient for the last time. However, this was Sebastian’s only son. He was scared to go out and tell him to see his son for the last time.

The operating room fell into a dead silence. Only the ticking of the equipment could be heard. Under Adrian’s furious roar, no one dared to make a sound.

After a while, Adrian spoke, “Do your best to do what you can. We can only leave it to fate.” With that, he walked to a corner of the operating room and pulled out a chair to sit down.

He had already thought it through. If he delayed the surgery, it would take at least three to four hours. This way, even if he lost credit, Sebastian would think Adrian had worked hard. After all, he had spent three to four hours of surgery inside. No matter how crazy Sebastian was, he wouldn’t harm him. Adrian would blame the woman who attacked Sid, and he would be fine. Although it was impossible for Sebastian to give him a chance to rise to the top, at least he had received a lot of “hard work fees” from Sebastian during this time. So, it wasn’t a waste of time.

After convincing himself, Adrian took out his phone and started playing games, as if this was not an operating room but an arcade. When the others saw this scene, they were dumbfounded. They had always known that Adrian had no medical ethics or bottom line, but they did not know that Adrian did not even have the most basic human decency.

The nurse couldn’t stand it and reminded the others, “Let’s try our best to stop the bleeding.”

The two assistant doctors nodded. They could not just sit there and let the dying patient die. So, they left Adrian and started to stop the bleeding again. Even if their hope was slim, they had to try. Otherwise, how could they say they were doctors who saved the dying and helped the injured after they got out?

Accompanied by the sound of a gaming app, the doctors got busy. Adrian looked up and sneered in his heart. ‘Why are they doing that for?’

Adrian believed no one wanted to come out and work. If those people were so noble, they should have exposed Melody’s fake contribution when Sid underwent surgery for the first time. He believed they were no different than him. Maybe even worse.

Adrian could not be bothered with those people anymore. He let them do whatever they wanted and started playing his game peacefully. At the same time, at the entrance of the operating room, Sebastian shouted, “If you insist on going in, then step over my dead body!”

Melody gritted her teeth. “Mr. Quant, why are you so stubborn? What’s so good about Adrian that you trust him?”

Sebastian answered, “I don’t trust him, but it’s a fact that he pulled Sid back from the gates of hell the last time.”

Melody smiled bitterly and said, “If I had known this would happen, I would have made things clear back then.”

“What things?”

“The first person who successfully operated on Sid wasn’t Adrian but me. I completed the surgery on your son. Meanwhile, Adrian did nothing but mess around!”

Sebastian was stunned but didn’t believe what Melody said. He retorted, “If it’s really as you said, why didn’t you say it back then?”

Melody closed her eyes and said helplessly, “Because you had a huge prejudice against me and Ken. Even if I explained, you wouldn’t believe what I said.”

Moreover, Sebastian would ask the other people in the operating room, but they all worked under Adrian, and no one dared to stand for her. Under such circumstances, if Melody claimed her credit, Sebastian would hate her and Ken even more. That was why she let Adrian take the credit and remain silent.

Sebastian fell into a conflicted silence. What Melody said was indeed the truth. Even if she had said she was the one who did the surgery, he would not have believed it. But even at that point, he was still in denial.

“What evidence do you have to prove that you were the one who operated on my son?”

“I can’t prove it. This hospital belongs to Adrian’s father. No one will help me prove it. But I can swear to God that I’m not lying.”

Sebastian’s expression looked more conflicted. If what Melody said was true, then he had personally sent his son to the gates of hell. But if Melody lied to him, perhaps she wanted to kill Sid like Janet.

Seeing that Sebastian was silent, Melody urged, “Please consider it carefully. But you don’t have much time left. I believe that with Adrian’s medical skills, Sid won’t be able to last long.”

Sebastian’s forehead was drenched in cold sweat. Melody didn’t want to burden Sebastian too much. So, she could only wait patiently.

At that moment, Warner Chapman’s phone suddenly rang. No one knew what the person on the other end of the line said, but Warner Chapman suddenly looked up at the operating room. Melody felt that something was wrong. After Warner Chapman hung up, she asked, “What’s wrong?”

Warner Chapman took a few steps forward and said, “I wanted to say something just now, but because you suddenly appeared, I forgot.”

“Now that you remember, tell me.”

“When I was helping Mr. Quant search for where his men had gone, I accidentally opened the door to an office. Inside, I found the body of the hospital director.”

“What?” In an instant, everyone present was stunned. They had all seen the director of this hospital before, so they were surprised when they heard the news.

“Speaking of which…” Sebastian said hesitantly, “I haven’t seen the director lately.”

Warner Chapman nodded and said, “When the police took Miss Murphy away, I handed this matter to them. They were the ones who called just now and said that they suspected the murderer was the director’s son, Adrian, the chief surgeon inside.”

Sebastian’s eyes suddenly widened. He realized he was handing his son’s life over to a murder suspect.

Warner Chapman added, “Mr. Quant, they’ll be here soon. You should hand the surgery to Miss Fox now.”

Melody said at the right time, “Mr. Quant, do you believe Adrian’s nonsense?”

Chapter 692

Melody moved forward and said sincerely, “Adrian lied to you. I was the one who performed surgery on Sid.”

Ken narrowed his eyes and said, “Mr. Quant, you have no choice. Sid is my brother. His safety is more important than anything else. If you don’t move aside, don’t blame me for taking the harsh way.”

Nickolas could not help but add, “Qishan, please believe them this once. When the police arrive, Adrian will be taken away for investigation. If you don’t let Miss Fox in, there won’t be a chief surgeon in the operating room.”

“Damn it!” Sebastian gritted his teeth and said, “Fine! You can go. But I must go in with you to watch over you in case something bad happened.”

“I don’t mind.” Melody nodded without hesitation. In any case, she didn’t go in to harm Sid. She was upright and wasn’t afraid of Sebastian staring at her.

“We need to change into sterile clothes first.” Melody moved quickly and brought Sebastian to change into sterile clothes. Meanwhile, Ken hesitated for a moment before following them.

Warner took a step forward and was about to go over when he was pulled back by Nickolas again.

“They’re going to the operating room. You’ll only be in their way.”

“But…”

“No buts! You’re the one who found the director’s body.

Wait here until the police come to arrest Adrian. That’s what you need to do.”

Warner had no choice but to stay outside the operating room.

*****

When Melody brought Sebastian and Ken into the operating room, Adrian’s game was at the most critical moment. Sebastian spotted him playing games with his legs crossed. He had worked hard to guard the door outside and almost attacked Melody and Ken, but Adrian played games instead of saving his son’s life. An indescribable anger instantly rushed to his head. Sebastian was overwhelmed and went limp, but Melody quickly supported him.

When he caught his breath, Sebastian’s eyes were burning with anger. He rushed, snatched Adrian’s phone, and smashed it heavily to the ground. The phone immediately shattered into pieces.

Adrian didn’t expect Sebastian to come in and thought one of his staff had smashed his phone. He was furious and offended. So he immediately cursed, “F*ck! I’m in the middle of a team battle. Do you want to f*cking die?”

When he finished his sentence, Zhao looked up and saw Sebastian’s face. When their eyes met, Adrian was so frightened that his legs shook. He immediately fell from the chair. “Mr. Quant, why are you here?”

As Adrian finished speaking, Sebastian raised his hand and slapped his face. Adrian felt a sharp pain, and the taste of blood filled his mouth. His tongue felt a hard lump, and he spat it out. As it turned out, his teeth had fallen. “I, I, I, I, my teeth!”

“Your teeth? Not only do I want your teeth, but I also want your life!” Sebastian kicked Adrian’s abdomen heavily, causing him to stagger and knock over the chair he had been sitting on. His body was hurt as if it had been torn apart. However, he didn’t dare to fight back. He allowed Sebastian to continue punching and kicking him.

Ken narrowed his eyes and tried to hold Sebastian. “Let go! I’m going to beat this motherf*cker to death today.”

He thought Adrian could be trusted, so he placed his son’s life in his hands. But in the end, that bastard treated him like sh*t. Even if he were to cut Adrian into pieces, he did not think he could completely vent his hatred.

Ken took a deep breath and said, “I know you want to kill him immediately, but the most important thing now is your son’s survival. What if you hit some instrument in this room?”

Only then did Sebastian stop struggling. He spat at Adrian and gritted his teeth. “I’ll beat you to death after this!”

Adrian was in so much pain that he could not move. He lay on the ground and gasped. Seeing that Sebastian didn’t continue beating him, Ken let go of Sebastian’s hand and turned to look at the operating table.

As early as when Sebastian slapped Adrian, Melody had already arrived at the operating table to communicate with the assistant doctors about Sid’s situation. But after understanding his situation, her expression became somewhat stiff.

“Melody?” Ken observed Melody’s expression and asked, “How is Sid doing?”

“Not good…” Melody shook her head, but her eyes became even more determined. “I will do my best!”

Ken nodded and stopped disturbing her.

Afterward, Melody glanced at the people beside her. They were all working with her during Sid’s first surgery. She did not waste any time and directly gave an order. “Anesthetist, keep me posted on Sid.”

“Yes!”

“Scrub nurse, disinfect all the equipment again.”

“On it!”

“Circuit nurse, keep an eye on the supply of blood bags and platelets.”

“Yes, Ma’am!”

Everything was ready, and the surgery continued. “Hemostatic forceps, hemostatic gauze…

The scrub nurse beside her quickly handed over the tools that Melody asked for, and the operating room became busy again.

When Melody appeared, the others seemed to have found their confidence. They were no longer as flustered as before. They all followed Melody’s instructions and seriously did what they asked.

When Sebastian, who had been so angry, saw this scene, he unknowingly became serious. Although his gaze fiercely stared at Adrian, he always kept an eye on Melody’s side.

Melody used the tools she asked to stop the bleeding, but she also used the silver needles she brought in and inserted them into Sid’s acupuncture points one by one. She looked professional.

Perhaps she did perform the first surgery on Sid,’ Sebastian thought. He was too scared to disturb Melody, so he shut his mouth.

Ten minutes later, the bleeding finally stopped. Sid’s blood pressure slowly rose, and Sid’s condition improved. Although his face was still pale, it was no longer that sickly pale. One could vaguely see that his lips were starting to turn red. This was because his blood had finally been replenished. The doctors and nurses looked happy.

“Miss Fox, you’re amazing. We never thought we could succeed!”

“I didn’t do it alone.” Melody looked at the amazing team around her and said, “You guys helped too. Moreover, your first aid treatments were spot on.” If those people were like Adrian and chose to give up, even she would not be able to save Sid.

Hearing this, everyone’s faces heated up and they felt embarrassed. They knew they were far from ‘good.’

Chapter 693

If the doctors and nurses weren’t scared of Adrian’s threat, they would have gone out to inform the patient’s family when Sid’s bleeding could not be stopped. But they didn’t. They didn’t dare. They were afraid of losing their jobs and ruining their careers. Besides, although Adrian was only a doctor, his father was the director.

Once Adrian’s father backed him up, they would surely lose their hope of having a bright career in the medical field. So they were afraid. Hence, they felt guilty for accepting the word ‘good’.

Fortunately, Melody was there, and they could reverse the damage. “Miss Fox, what’s our next step?”

“Let’s repair the heart tissue first, then…” Melody distributed the work methodically. Sid had survived the most difficult part, and Melody was confident she could complete the surgery.

At that moment, Adrian finally recovered from the pain. He looked at the operating table and sneered in his heart. ‘The damage to his internal organs is serious. Even if Melody could perform the first surgery, this time would be different. He was sure that with Sid’s current condition, only a truly talented individual could complete this surgery and save Sid’s life. That talented individual, of course, was not Melody. In Adrian’s view, Melody was just a silly little girl, playing with medical instruments.

In Adrian’s hospital, especially at Melody’s age, she was not even qualified to be a surgical assistant. Hence, Adrian was certain that Melody would not be able to save Sid. If Sid died, Sebastian’s anger would not only fall on him.

The corners of Adrian’s lips slowly curled up, only to find Sebastian staring at him with a cold expression. He was shocked and did not dare to show any more expression. He shrunk his neck and curled up on the ground like a turtle in its shell.

Sebastian didn’t know what Adrian was laughing about. He thought Adrian was glad to make a fool out of him, so he didn’t care about him anymore. Instead, he focused his attention on Melody.

Time passed second by second. Unknowingly, three hours had passed. Sebastian was old, and his body could barely hold on. He had no choice but to pull a chair and sit down. But when he looked at Melody at that moment, a hint of admiration appeared in his eyes.

Sebastian noticed that Melody had not been distracted in the past three hours. She had been maintaining laser-focused attention as she carried out the surgery solemnly. He had never seen another person with such high concentration.

Then, Sebastian looked at Ken in shock and realized he was still standing at the spot where he had been standing at the beginning. His feet had not moved an inch, and his eyes were focused on Melody without moving at all. Perhaps there was another person who was on par with her.

Sebastian finally understood why they got married in the first place. They were indeed quite compatible in this aspect. Aside from Melody, Ken could not find anyone with the same quality as him.

Sebastian sat for a while and soon couldn’t sit still anymore. His son was on the operating table. After the soreness in his legs subsided slightly, he quickly stood up again and continued to wait.

Melody saw Sebastian’s actions and said calmly, “Mr. Quant, if you’re tired, sit for a while. I’m almost done here. Don’t worry.”

Sebastian’s eyes lit up and asked, “Has the surgery been completed?”

“Almost. I need to ensure that everything has been carried

When Melody finished speaking, Adrian shouted in disbelief, “That’s impossible!! How can a little girl like you complete such a complicated surgery? If I can’t do it, it’s even more impossible for you. She’s lying, Mr. Quant. She must be lying to you!”

Sebastian didn’t say anything as he kicked Adrian’s stomach. “Shut up!”

Adrian screamed. He had suffered once again. No matter how unwilling he was to believe it, he was too scared to argue. Regardless, the success of the surgery would be determined soon enough.

Another fifteen minutes passed, and Melody let out a long breath. She put down the surgical equipment in her hand and said, “I’ll leave the suturing task to you guys. I’ll pull out the silver needles.”

The assistants quickly nodded. There were more than a hundred silver needles on Sid’s body. They were all used to stop the bleeding and protect his heart meridians. Melody carefully removed them one by one. When she was done, the suture on the other side happened to have ended.

Sebastian hurriedly took a few steps to ask, “Miss Fox, have you finished the surgery?”

“Yes.” Melody nodded and said, “He will wake up in a day or two. However, the first two days will be his most critical state. he might even have a fever. But don’t worry, if Sid doesn’t show any other symptoms, he can be discharged once his wounds recover.”

In an instant, Sebastian didn’t dare to believe it was true. But after a while, he opened his mouth to confirm again, “This means you have succeeded? I apologize, but I find it hard to believe. And what about that critical moment you mentioned?”

Melody’s lips curved into a smile. She understood Sebastian’s view very well. So, she answered patiently, “Yes, the surgery is successful. However, after the surgery, there might be a period of high fever. This is where Sid’s condition will be at the most critical. But after that, I can assure you he’s safe.”

Melody paused. Afraid that Sebastian might misunderstand. So, she spoke more concisely. “If he wakes up in two days, he can be discharged.”

Sebastian felt like he was dreaming. Three hours ago, his son was still in critical condition. He even saw the machine show that his heart had stopped beating. His heart seemed to have stopped as well. However, hearing that Sid’s surgery had been completed successfully, he still found it unbelievable. After a long time, he sniffed, “That’s great.”

Melody patted Sebastian’s shoulder and was about to elaborate further when Adrian suddenly got up from the floor and said, “This is impossible!”

Melody narrowed her eyes and looked at Adrian.

Adrian was beaten up so badly. She did not even know where he got his strength from. However, he quickly walked to the operating table, grabbed an assistant doctor, and asked, “I know her surgery was not completed successfully. Tell me she’s lying!”

The assistant doctor was shaken by Adrian so much that his head was about to spin. At that time, Sebastian widened his eyes in anger and warned, “Adrian!”

Melody said calmly, “Ignore him. Let him have his answer.”

“Answer me!” Adrian stared at the assistant doctor.

The assistant doctor took a moment to calm down. When his head was not as dizzy as before, he said, “Miss Fox did complete the surgery. During the surgery, she managed to stop the patient’s bleeding and fix the damaged tissue.”

Melody looked at Adrian flatly. “Did you hear that?”

“No, you must have bribed him!” Adrian said crazily, “Not to mention the repair of his internal organs. You can’t complete this surgery so quickly and smoothly!”

Chapter 694

“Mr. Quant, you have to believe me! It’s impossible for her to have finished the surgery so quickly. Actually, no one in Halcyon could have done it, given Mr. Sid’s condition.”

Before Adrian Russo could finish, someone grabbed his collar. He looked up to see Melody Fox.

Adrian’s heart raced, but he quickly forced a grin. “Mr. Quant, did you see that? She’s angry because I exposed her!”

Sebastian Quant instinctively glanced at Melody, who simply stared back at Adrian.

“What did you say about bypass surgery?” she asked, her voice cold.

Adrian, unfazed, sneered at her. “What? You didn’t perform a cardiac bypass on Mr. Sid? Don’t tell me you entered the operating room without even knowing what bypass surgery is.”

Melody’s eyes narrowed, and she slammed Adrian to the ground.

Ken Swanson noticed something was off. Melody wasn’t one to lash out, especially not over someone like Adrian.

Stepping forward, he asked, “Melody, what’s wrong?”

Sebastian followed up with, “Miss Fox, what’s this about bypass surgery? Did you really not do it?”

Melody, visibly angry, responded, “Sid’s injuries are severe, but he doesn’t need bypass surgery. Forcing it would only make him die faster.”

Ken realized why Melody was so furious.

Sebastian yanked Adrian up from the ground and punched him hard in the face, knocking out two of his teeth.

“Spare me, Mr. Quant!” Adrian pleaded. “Don’t trust her so easily! I know what I’m talking about. Mr. Sid needs bypass surgery.”

“Shut up! Do you think I’ll believe you? Even if he did need it, what were you doing in the operating room? Playing games!”

Adrian gulped and scrambled to find an excuse. “Mr. Quant, don’t hit me! Even if I didn’t do much, I tried my best! Without me, Mr. Sid wouldn’t have survived the first surgery. I was thinking of him, I just played games to relax and focus on the surgery.”

Sebastian, gritting his teeth, asked, “Did you really do the first surgery?”

Adrian glanced at Melody, knowing she had likely told the truth. But he banked on the fact that everyone who witnessed the first surgery was his subordinate. Without hesitation, Adrian lied, “Of course! I was the chief surgeon. If you don’t believe me, ask the others.”

Adrian pointed to the doctors and nurses in the operating room. “Ask them! They were there during the first surgery.”

Sebastian was known for being fair, rewarding and punishing where deserved. Even though he saw Adrian playing games instead of operating, if Adrian really did perform the first surgery, Sebastian would spare him.

If Adrian was telling the truth, that meant Melody lied to him. Sebastian would have to reconsider who was in the right concerning the bypass surgery.

“All of you,” Sebastian said, turning to the medical staff, “was Adrian really the chief surgeon for the first surgery? And remember, if you lie, I’ll make sure you regret it.”

Adrian took advantage of Sebastian’s turned back to send the staff a threatening glare, making it clear they’d better not cross him.

Sebastian didn’t notice any of this.

Sebastian pointed at the assistant doctor. “You! Tell me. Who was the chief surgeon for the first surgery?”

The assistant doctor glanced at Melody, then at Adrian, before gritting his teeth and saying, “Mr. Quant, yes, Dr. Russo was the chief surgeon during Mr. Sid’s first surgery.”

Adrian grinned. “See, Mr. Quant? I’m not lying! This woman is the liar. She’s to blame for the bypass surgery mess, not me!”

Sebastian clenched his fists, furious at being deceived by a woman once again.

“Melody, what’s going on? Are you in on this with Janet? Are you trying to kill my son?”

Melody frowned, meeting Sebastian’s angry gaze. “Mr. Quant, I’m not lying.”

Before she could finish, the assistant doctor interrupted, “Mr. Quant, I’m not done!”

Sebastian turned to him.

The assistant doctor, now resolute, glared at Adrian. “Yes, Dr. Russo started the surgery, but Mr. Sid’s condition worsened, and Dr. Russo couldn’t save him. That’s when Miss Fox stepped in and took over as chief surgeon.”

The others, encouraged by the assistant doctor, began speaking up.

“That’s right! Miss Fox saved Mr. Sid that night.”

“If it weren’t for Miss Fox, Mr. Sid wouldn’t have made it. It’s the same for this time. When we discussed the surgery plan, we didn’t agree on bypass surgery, but Adrian insisted.”

“Yes! Bypass surgery wasn’t necessary. It could have harmed Mr. Sid.”

The room buzzed with voices supporting Melody and contradicting Adrian’s claims.

Sebastian paused, then asked, “If that’s true, why didn’t you say anything when I praised Adrian?”

The assistant doctor replied, ashamed, “He’s the director’s son. We’re just regular staff. One word from him could ruin our careers. But after this surgery, I’ve had enough! I can’t keep lying for him.”

“I see.”

Sebastian’s teeth ground together. He turned to Adrian, eyes full of cold fury. Adrian broke out in a sweat, blood, and perspiration mixing on his face.

“No, it’s not true,” Adrian stammered. “They’re framing me! They’ve been bribed by her!”

Chapter 695

“Mr. Quant, don’t listen to this woman’s nonsense! I graduated from a reputable medical school and trained under some of the best. How could a young girl like her perform a surgery that I couldn’t?”

Adrian’s desperation was clear.

Ken, usually quiet, finally spoke up. “Adrian, are you done?”

Adrian instinctively looked at Ken and was met with a cold, unblinking stare. The moment their eyes met, Adrian felt a chill run down his spine as if he was facing the devil himself. He was stunned into silence, cold sweat soaking through his shirt in seconds.

Just then, a bodyguard in a sterile suit entered the operating room with a doctor.

“Sir, Dr. Mueller is here.”

Melody immediately recognized the name. Jacob Mueller was a renowned general surgeon in Halcyon and an expert in complex brain surgeries. His skillful hands had earned him the nickname “Miracle Hand” among his patients.

Melody had met him once in her past life. Jacob was known for both his medical ethics and expertise, someone even her teacher had praised. However, Jacob was deeply rooted in modern medicine and had a strong bias against traditional practices.

But since her teacher thought highly of him, Melody greeted him politely, “Dr. Mueller, it’s an honor.”

Jacob didn’t recognize her. He nodded slightly and approached Sebastian.

“Mr. Quant, I hope I’m not too late?”

“No, not at all,” Sebastian replied courteously. He gestured to Sid, who had just undergone surgery. “The surgery is supposedly complete, but there’s a disagreement here. One doctor says Sid needed bypass surgery, while the other says it wasn’t necessary. We’d like your opinion.”

Jacob nodded, maintaining a neutral expression, and moved toward the operating table.

The entire surgery had been recorded, so Jacob asked the assistant doctor to pull up the footage. The video of the first surgery had been deleted by Adrian, but the latest one was intact.

As the footage played, showing Melody using a traditional method and modern medical equipment to stop Sid’s bleeding, Jacob frowned.

“Ridiculous! Who uses traditional medicine in an operating room?”

Adrian started to speak, but Ken’s cold presence silenced him. All Adrian could do was hope he’d been right and that Sid really did need bypass surgery.

Melody didn’t pay Adrian any mind. She noted Jacob’s disdain, just like her teacher said, and calmly responded, “Dr. Mueller, please continue watching.”

Jacob glanced at her, clearly displeased, but held his tongue and returned to the video. As Sid’s bleeding was brought under control and eventually stopped, his expression shifted to one of confusion.

Melody waited patiently as Jacob finished watching the video, which had been sped up for time.

Sebastian was quick to ask, “Dr. Mueller, what’s the situation? Is Sid really cured? And what about the bypass surgery?”

Jacob replied, “There’s no need for bypass surgery. Performing it would only increase the risk.”

As he spoke, he gave Melody a look of mixed emotions. Meanwhile, Adrian’s face turned ashen.

‘I was wrong! How can my medical skills be inferior to this young girl’s? It’s not possible. I’ve studied medicine for years. Losing to her is unthinkable!’ Adrian thought.

But with Jacob’s confirmation, Sebastian knew the truth. All the problems pointed at Adrian, the man he had chosen to trust.

“Damn it!” Sebastian shouted, grabbing Adrian and raining punches and kicks down on him. Adrian howled in pain, helpless under the onslaught.

Jacob didn’t spare Adrian a glance. He could already guess what was going on and had no sympathy for quacks like Adrian.

Jacob’s focus was on Melody. After watching the surgery, he realized her skills were on par with his own, maybe even superior in a year or two. Yet she was so young, nearly half his age.

“Who taught you your medical skills?” Jacob asked directly.

Melody had anticipated this question. She calmly replied, “I’m self-taught. I earned my medical license through self-study.”

“Impossible! You’re not telling the truth,” Jacob insisted, certain of his disbelief.

Melody, unwilling to reveal her teacher’s identity, simply shrugged. “Believe what you will, but that’s the truth.”

“You.”

Before Jacob could press further, the assistant doctor stepped forward. “The surgery is complete, and the patient is being transferred back to the ICU. Is there anything else we need to do?”

“No,” Jacob said, waving him off. “I’ll monitor his recovery.

“Understood.”

The assistant doctor, familiar with Jacob’s reputation, quickly complied, transferring Sid back to the ICU through a special passage.

As the operating room door opened, Adrian took his chance. He broke free from Sebastian’s grip and bolted for the exit, but what he saw outside stopped him in his tracks.

A large group of bodyguards from both the Quant and Chapman families stood guard, along with several police officers in uniform.

The moment Adrian saw the police, guilt washed over him, and he lowered his head.

The lead officer immediately sensed something was off and approached him. “Are you Adrian Russo? Show us your ID. We need you to cooperate in a murder investigation.”

Adrian’s face drained of color. He frantically waved his hands. “No, no, I’m not Adrian Russo! I don’t know him.”

At that moment, Sebastian stormed out, grabbing Adrian by the collar.

“Adrian Russo, where do you think you’re going?”

The police officer narrowed his eyes. “So you are Adrian Russo. Why lie?”

“N-no, I.”

Adrian stammered, too terrified to form a coherent sentence.

A foul smell filled the air, and everyone looked down to see that Adrian had wet himself in fear.
