Chapter 396

Ken’s voice was low and seductive.

It was just a normal conversation, yet for some reason, the words sounded different when they came out of his mouth.

“Ahem…” Melody covered her nose awkwardly and cleared her throat.

Somehow, she did not dare to look Ken in the eye.

She averted her gaze and said, “Just tell me. As long as it is within my ability, I’ll agree to it.”

Ken raised his eyebrows and said, “There’s a class reunion tonight. Accompany me to attend it.”

He paused, then added, “In your capacity as my wife.”

Melody’s heart skipped a beat, and her heartbeat subconsciously became chaotic.

“I said that I’d like you to accompany me to a university class reunion this evening as my wife.”

Melody pointed at herself and asked, “Me? Are you serious? Don’t classmates always bring things they are most proud of to class reunions? Why are you bringing me? Aren’t you afraid that your classmates will laugh at you?”

Ken raised his eyebrows and corrected her. “You’re a human, not a thing.”

Melody gagged and replied after clearing her throat, “I’m indeed human, but are you really not worried about getting embarrassed? With a face like mine… I’m afraid I’ll frighten your classmates. I’d better not go there and be a wet blanket.”

“That won’t do,” Ken said sternly. “I’ve always been single. I even thought that I didn’t like women. No matter what, I have to bring a woman with me this time. Furthermore, you owe me a huge favor regarding Yolanda Fox’s matter.”

Melody bit her lips.

Indeed, Yolanda’s matter would not have been resolved so quickly and smoothly without Ken’s help.

However, she was still puzzled and asked with a troubled expression, “Why don’t you bring Janet Murphy?”

“She’s also my university classmate. My friends are very familiar with her. They won’t believe me,” Ken replied.

Ken was caught by surprise but he quickly realized that Melody had misunderstood. “So… that was why you urged me to get a divorce after the cocktail party?”

“Mm-hmm.” Melody could not explain how she felt at this moment, but something seemed to be stuck in her throat, making her want to cough.

“Cough-cough!” She coughed again and said without any emotion, “I don’t want to be a stumbling block between the two of you.”

“Stumbling block?” Ken took a deep breath and felt extremely vexed.

He explained with extreme seriousness, “Melody, we were not locked in an embrace. At that time, I told her about her illness. She was too sad at that time, so she hugged me and cried. But I quickly pushed her away.”

Melody could not help looking at Ken in surprise. “Really?”

“What else can it be? If I were interested in Jane, we would have been together by now after knowing each other for so many years. Why would I wait until today? Didn’t we already talk about this in our marriage? That if we both found someone we like, we should just be frank and divorce amicably?”

Melody lowered her eyes. She could clearly feel that the invisible lump in her throat seemed to have disappeared at this moment.

At this juncture, Melody hurriedly opened the door and got out of the car as well. She quickly caught up with Ken.

“Wait!” Melody was panting slightly. She met Ken’s gaze directly and said, “You… you forgot about the divorce.”

The answer from the guy on the other end of the line was the same as what Ken said.

“That might not be the case. You changed your family details recently, didn’t you? It might be related to that. We’ll send you an update after the verification.”

Melody then remembered that she had changed her next of kin from Russell Fox to Maria Fox after falling out with Russel.

The doubts in her heart slowly dissipated. She mumbled an acknowledgment before adding, “Thank you. I’ll wait for your news then.”

The other party bade goodbye formally and ended the call.

Melody could not help sighing with relief.

She had been acting too strangely lately. It was bad enough that she was always thinking too much, but her emotions also often swung up and down along with Ken.

If she did not divorce him soon, she was really worried that she would fall for him.

Melody was very familiar with this floor. It was the place where she had operated on Ander’s son, Lucas.

As soon as she stepped out of the elevator, she heard Colin apologizing profusely to a doctor. “I’m sorry! Please wait a little longer… just a few more minutes.”

Dan retorted brazenly, “Isn’t he unharmed? What bleeding are you talking about? On the other hand, I was frightened by you guys just now. I should be asking you guys for compensation for mental trauma. What right do you have to scold me?”

Melody had seen despicable people, but she had never seen someone so despicable. “I should really introduce you to Yolanda Fox. You two will definitely become good friends.”
