Chapter 376
Melody didn’t recognize Ken’s car at first. She thought the Death Riders had brought more people with them. Just as she was preparing for another fight, she saw a familiar figure quickly get out of the car and rush toward her.
Ken was wearing a long trench coat, the night wind making it billow dramatically, enhancing his rugged charm. Seeing Ken, Melody felt a slight relief and opened the car door to get out.
But as soon as her feet touched the ground, Ken’s strong hands grabbed her shoulders, inspecting her closely from every angle. Only when he confirmed she wasn’t hurt did his stern expression soften a bit.
Melody, still confused about Ken’s behavior, saw him frown and heard his scolding, “Melody, when will you stop putting yourself in danger?” She stood there, stunned and
speechless, as Ken continued with a tone of reproach, “Why did you avoid the main roads and choose risky paths? And why did you tell my guys not to help you? What were you thinking?”
Melody’s mind was consumed by the image of Ken and Janet embracing. She took a step back, brushing off Ken’s hand as he tried to steady her by the shoulder, and said, “I’m fine, aren’t I? Besides, it’s better to set up traps and be proactive than to wait for them to make a move against me.”
Ken’s brow furrowed even more. “And what if something had happened to you? Do you even consider yourself a woman?”
Melody pressed her lips together and replied, “I have the confidence to handle them.”
Melody cut him off, asking, “Why are you here anyway Shouldn’t you be dealing with your own issues?
She thought. He just had your intimate moment with Janet and now showing up here for me. Is he underestimating me or finding me ridiculous?
Ken, unaware of Melody’s misunderstanding, thought she was referring to the party. Worried that his concern might make things worse and say something to anger her further, he suppressed his frustration and anxiety and said, “I’ve taken care of my matters. Just get in my car and go home now.” Without waiting for her response, he pulled her toward his car.
Melody yanked her arm away and said, “I’ll drive myself. I have my own car.”
Ken looked at her. “Can’t you just listen for once? This road is long and there could be more ambushes. Don’t worry about your car; someone will take care of it.”
Melody lowered her gaze, realizing that many things needed to be clarified. She clenched her fists and said, “Alright.”
Ken’s expression softened a bit, and he headed toward the parking area.
As they drove smoothly down the mountain, Melody decided to break the silence and get back to business. “I’ve made some progress with Owen. He asked me to contact him another day and visit his daughter. I think he’s not confident in what Ulric’s side is doing and wants to be prepared.”
She paused, thinking of Sean. “Actually, I owe a lot to Mr. Yager, who suffered from heatstroke and bled. If it weren’t for him, I wouldn’t have gained Owen’s trust so quickly.”
Melody spoke for a while but noticed that Ken didn’t react at all. He remained focused on driving, and constantly kept an eye on the side of the mountain. His vigilance was palpable even from the passenger seat.
She wondered if Ken was that afraid of danger, and couldn’t help but say, “If you’re so worried about ambushes, you should have let me drive down alone.”
Ken finally reacted, glancing at her with irritation. “Melody, do you think I’m afraid of danger? Huh?”
“Then what are you afraid of?”
“Of course, I’m afraid of you getting hurt!” Ken blurted out.
Melody stiffened, pondering, ‘So, he isn’t afraid of danger itself, but he is worried about me? What does he see me as? A friend? An ally? Or…! She didn’t dare to go on the third possibility and wasn’t willing to think about it, because it seemed impossible.
She forced a smile and said, “Thanks for your concern. But have you considered that I’m not an ordinary woman? Since you know my teacher is Quentin Parker, you should know I have the skills to handle danger on my own.”
Ken took a deep breath. “This isn’t up for debate. You dealt with the incompetent Death Riders today, so you got away unharmed. But what if you run into someone you can’t handle one day?”
Melody’s hands tightened. She knew Ken was right. Even though she didn’t want to admit it, she couldn’t guarantee she’d always come out unscathed against opponents she hadn’t encountered before.
Ken glanced at her, seeing her softened attitude, and said, “In the future, if you’re in danger, call me first.”
Melody felt a mix of emotions, thinking, ‘What if you had your own problems with Janet and couldn’t come? Won’t I be intruding on your time together?’
Shaking off these personal thoughts, she switched topics. “I thought Zack would be here tonight, but I didn’t see him. It’s also the time we agreed to meet, but I’ve been unable to reach him.”
Ken, who had been monitoring Zack’s situation, said, “He’s out of town and will be back tomorrow. He’s probably busy when you call.”
Melody nodded, preparing to discuss the divorce. But as she glanced out the window, she noticed they weren’t heading toward her place. She asked, puzzled, “Where are we going?”
“You’ll find out when we get there,” Ken said vaguely.
Melody said, “Okay” and continued, “Margaret’s health is fully restored now and won’t be easily triggered. If you have time, let’s visit her and then handle the divorce?”
As soon as she finished speaking, the car’s atmosphere seemed to drop. She glanced at Ken, noticing his cold demeanor, and was confused. ‘Shouldn’t he be pleased about the divorce? It means he can be with Janet openly. But why is he looking displeased and upset?’ Melody couldn’t understand Ken’s feelings.
Then Ken said, “I’ll come by tomorrow to handle the divorce.”
Melody was taken aback, then sighed in resignation. ‘Of course, he wouldn’t look happy. He always keeps his emotions hidden. He is probably relieved inside,’ she thought.
Yet she couldn’t understand why she wasn’t feeling happy. This was supposed to be a release for her; marrying into the Swanson family had been a nightmare.
Despite the fact, she couldn’t bring herself to be joyful. Then she remembered tomorrow was Sunday. She reminded him. “Tomorrow is Sunday, right?”
Chapter 377
“Isn’t city hall closed on Sundays?” Melody asked.
Ken looked at her, saying, “What, having second thoughts?”
“Who’s having second thoughts?” Melody quickly retorted, “I’m just stating a fact, they’re closed on Sundays.
“Relax,” Ken’s voice was calm as he returned his focus to the road, one hand on the steering wheel. “They might be closed to the public, but if we want to get divorced, we can make it happen anytime.”
Hearing this, Melody felt a pang of bitterness in her heart. Somehow, she realized Ken might be right. She didn’t want to let him go. ‘But why? Could I have fallen for Ken? That can’t be possible!’ she wondered.
After her rebirth, Melody had vowed never to get entangled in another fleeting romance. Love was too distant and extravagant for someone focused on revenge. She couldn’t afford to desire it, nor did she want to. “Fine, let’s do it tomorrow,” she said, pushing the thoughts away.
Just then, the car came to a stop. Melody turned to look outside and realized they were at Central Hospital’s parking lot. “Why are we here?”
Ken didn’t answer, simply saying, “Get out.”
Melody followed Ken out of the car, puzzled. He led her straight to the surgical department. At this hour, the surgical department’s doctors usually would have gone home, but for some reason, one office light was still on.
“What are we doing here?” Before Melody could get an answer, Ken pulled her into the doctor’s office. The doctor, a woman, looked like she had been waiting for a long time, her eyes showing signs of fatigue, but quickly lighting up upon seeing them. “Mr. Swanson, you’re here.”
Ken nodded and tilted his head towards Melody, saying, “Check her out and make sure she’s okay.”
“Sure thing. Come with me, sweetheart.” The doctor beckoned Melody over with a wave.
Most doctors at Central Hospital knew Melody, but she had makeup on today, masking her identity. However, she began to understand why Ken brought her here. A strange feeling crept over her, making her heart beat faster and her throat feel tight. She couldn’t resist the doctor’s gentle insistence, so she followed her to an examination room.
After a thorough check-up, the doctor returned first. Ken immediately asked, “Is she hurt?”
The doctor shook her head. “No external injuries, just a bit of low blood sugar. She needs to be more careful with her diet. It’s common for young women to have low blood sugar, and she’s clearly not eating regular meals. This can not only cause low blood sugar but also lead to stomach problems.”
Ken’s expression was unreadable. “Got it.”
Melody overheard their conversation as she exited the examination room. Suppressing her emotions, she walked over and said, “I told you I was fine. Why bother the doctor?”
The doctor smiled. “Mr. Swanson cares about you. Why else would he call the hospital director and have me come in late at night?”
Melody felt a slight stir in her heart. She forced a smile. “Thank you.”
“No problem. I get paid overtime. I’m just glad you’re okay,” the doctor said, waving and tactfully excused herself.
For some reason, after the doctor left, the whole office felt smaller, and even the air seemed a bit stifling. Melody took a deep breath. “Ken, you don’t have to do this…” Deep in her mind, she thought, ‘Don’t be so kind to me. I will get the wrong idea, and won’t be able to help… overthinking.’
“Relax.” Ken glanced at her indifferently. “If it were Sid, I’d do the same. Don’t feel burdened. You went to the party to help me, and I can’t let anything happen to you.”
Melody’s face stiffened, the light in her eyes dimming. She realized everything Ken had done was just to ease his conscience, and she had misunderstood again. With a self-deprecating smile, she said, “Let’s go. I’ve taken enough of your time. Someone’s waiting for you.”
“Who?” Ken looked confused.
“Do I have to spell it out? You know who. I’ll bring the papers tomorrow morning. Tell me where to meet, or we can meet at the city hall.”
“No need, I’ll come to you.”
“Fine.” Melody nodded, and they walked out of the hospital together.
On the way, the silence was finally broken by Ken. “I need to thank you on Sid’s behalf. He told me you urged him to get a check-up, and he found out he has high blood pressure.”
“It’s nothing, really. I just thought he looked a bit off when I first met him that day,” Melody said casually about the check-up. “By the way, I didn’t see Sid today. Didn’t you invite him?”
Ken shrugged. “Since his check-up, he’s been taking good care of himself, going to bed by ten, and swearing off alcohol. So he skipped the party.”
Melody nodded. “That’s good. He shouldn’t drink, and early sleep is great for his health.”
In the blink of an eye, they reached the car. One of Ken’s men had already brought Melody’s car around. She took the keys and said goodbye. “See you tomorrow. I need to check on Hattie.”
Ken opened his mouth but only managed a single word. “Okay.”
Watching Melody drive away, Ken’s gaze deepened. He pulled out his phone and dialed Sid. It took a while for Sid to answer, his voice full of annoyance. “Man, I was finally asleep. Why are you calling?”
Without blinking, Ken said, “You have a relative at the city hall, right? Give me the number. I need a favor.”
Hearing the words “city hall.” Sid perked up. “What do you need? Are you getting divorced?”
Ken’s face darkened. “Are you happy about that?”
“Not happy… But Janet and I always thought Melody wasn’t right for you. I’ve interacted with Melody a few times recently, and she’s definitely impressive. At least in
medicine, you won’t find many peers who can match her
skills. But what you need in a partner is someone with the right background…”
Ken didn’t want to hear it and cut Sid off. “Cut the crap and give me the number.”
“Fine, fine. I’ll send it now,” Sid said, quickly ending the call and texting his relative’s number over. After a moment’s hesitation, he made a call to Janet. “Guess what! Big news!”
*****
Meanwhile, Melody arrived at Hattie’s place, and she received some good news from her. “My son called. That maid finally agreed to testify for us! We can expose all the terrible things Yolanda did!”
Chapter 378
Melody’s eyes hit up. “Really?” she asked.
Absolutely!” Hattie said excitedly. “My son just called. He said that the maid finally caved and agreed to testify! Once Yolanda is convicted, I can return to Mrs. Maria’s side with my head held high.”
Melody nodded and used Hattie’s phone to call her son. After confirming everything over the phone, Melody felt a wave of relief wash over her. Meanwhile, a clear plan began to form in her mind.
You’ve worked hard,” Melody said, gripping the phone rightly.
“It’s no trouble. It just took a long time. I hope you don’t think I’m useless.”
Not at all. I’ll let you know when she needs to testify. I’ll arrange it quickly to avoid any complications.”
“Okay!”
After the call, Melody remembered her purpose for coming. Handing the phone back to Hattie, she instructed, “Hartie, I need you to write a handwritten letter to
Grandma. We can’t resolve this without her. Since you’ve been with her all along, hearing the truth from you might help her accept it more easily.”
Hattie nodded. “I understand. Please wait a moment.”
Ten minutes later, Hattie handed Melody the letter, her
eyes red and swollen. “Ms. Fox… I have written everything in the letter”
Melody took the letter and patted Hattie’s shoulder. “I promise. Grandma will be fine, and you’ll return to the Fox family soon.”
“Thank you, Ms. Fox…”
Melody changed out of her formal dress and reverted to her usual appearance before driving back to her family’s estate. As soon as the car stopped, the gatekeeper sprinted back to the villa, clearly to report her arrival.
Melody squinted, taking note of the gatekeeper’s appearance, before getting out of the car. She did not go through the front door but climbed over the wall into the backyard. After delivering the letter to her grandmother, she climbed back over and entered through the front door. Sure enough, Russell and Mabel greeted her with icy stares as soon as she walked in. The look they gave her was less like that of family and more like that of enemies.
“Where the hell have you been?” Russell did not hold back and angrily yelled.
Mabel was still seething from the party incident, and this was the perfect opportunity to let her frustration out on Melody. “Dad told you to stay in your room and reflect on your fault. How could you sneak out? Aren’t you worried about making him sad?”
Russell’s expression darkened further. “You’d better have a good explanation. What were you doing out there all day?” he demanded.
Melody ignored his question. Instead, she said flatly, “Restricting someone’s freedom is illegal detention. It carries a sentence of up to three years.”
Russell panicked internally but grew angrier. “Melody, have you lost your mind? Do you have any respect for me as your father? Do you want me to disown you right now?”
“Sure,” Melody said without hesitation. “I have paper and a pen here. Write the agreement now so it’s clear we’re no longer related. That way, I won’t be a burden to you.”
Russell was stunned. “Are you out of your mind? Do you think you can survive if you really cut ties with the Fox family? Without me, you won’t be able to make it to Silverlake. You’ll end up back in the remote countryside!”
Melody met Russell’s eyes, her tone mocking. “Since I came back to Silverlake, has this family ever helped me with anything?”
“Ridiculous! If you weren’t part of this family, do you think you would have the chance to treat Margaret and get involved with their family?”
Melody laughed. “I healed Margaret with my own skills, not because of the Fox family. And remember, you removed me from the household registry a month ago. It was only because Grandma stood by me that I was able to stay.” Each word was a dagger to Russell’s pride, exposing the lies he told himself.
Russell shook with rage. Mabel, desperate to get rid of Melody, chimed in, “Dad, she’s nothing but an ungrateful brat. She doesn’t even know the meaning of gratitude. Disown her now before she causes more trouble!”
Enraged and fearing Melody might cause more issues, Russell grabbed the paper and pen from Melody and wrote the disownment agreement. Soon, the agreement was written up in duplicate. Russell tossed the documents onto the table in front of Melody. “Sign it! Once you do, you’re no longer part of this family. Think carefully before you sign!” Russell was sure Melody would not dare. Without the family, she was nothing, and only a fool would sign it
Melody quickly scanned the agreement. It stated not only that she had to leave the Fox family with nothing but also that all her current assets, including Silk Beauty Cosmetics she won from Jessica, would go to the family.
“I can’t sign this,” Melody said coldly to Russell.
Russell assumed she was scared and regretting her decision. “Ha!” He let out a disdainful snort. “I knew you weren’t that stupid. You don’t really have the guts to cut ties with me. Now, get on your knees, apologize, and swear you’ll obey me from now on, and I might just forgive you!”
Melody pressed her lips together in a thin line. “It’s not that I can’t cut ties with you. It’s just that this agreement is wrong. I won’t take anything from the Fox family, but you’re not taking what’s mine.”
Russell’s face darkened. He couldn’t believe what he was hearing.
Melody swiftly wrote a new agreement. “Here’s my version. Take a look.” She handed the agreement to Russell, her face like a mask of ice, making it hard for anyone to meet her gaze.
Russell glanced at the agreement, and Mabel quickly peered over his shoulder. Mabel was the first to react. “The gifts from the Swanson family? You can’t take those! If it weren’t for the Fox name, they wouldn’t have given you anything! Those are ours!” She had coveted those luxury items for a long time and wasn’t about to let Melody take them.
Russell saw that the agreement included Silk Beauty Cosmetics as Melody’s own property and a claim to 30% of the Justalion Group shares, Wilona’s legacy. His face turned as dark as a storm cloud. “You want to take the Justalion Group’s shares? Do you have any shame at all?”
Melody lifted her chin slightly. “The Justalion Group was built by my mother. You only took over after she died. Not only did you contribute nothing, but you also ran the company into the ground. As her daughter, why shouldn’t I get the shares?”
Melody’s words stripped away Russell’s pretenses, exposing his failures. The Justalion Group, once thriving, was now near collapse under his management. Melody had laid it bare for all to see. Russell’s veins bulged with anger.
Chapter 379
“How dare you, you vile little bitch! You’re talking nonsense. I swear, you must be out of your mind!” Russell shouted angrily, waving his hand as he gave his order. “Get her immediately! I want her sent to a mental facility right now!”
The butler was taken aback by how things had escalated. He knew how capable Melody was, so he wisely took a few steps back, avoiding direct confrontation. However, the other servants clearly didn’t understand what they were up against. A group of them approached with ropes, ready to restrain Melody.
Melody gave a cold, mocking smile. “You amateurs. Do you guys really think you can take me down?”
Russell felt disrespected by Melody and shouted in fury, “Tie her up now! Do it immediately!” He was calculating in his mind, ‘Melody can never get Silk Beauty Cosmetics or any shares in the Justalion Group. She won’t get anything, not even a dime. If I could just get her committed to a mental facility, those assets would naturally become mine. It would be much easier than severing our family ties. Who knows, maybe a few days in there would even make Melody more compliant and obedient, turning her into the dutiful daughter I’ve always wanted.’ Russell thought it was a brilliant idea and urged the servants to restrain Melody.
Melody’s lips pressed into a thin line as she watched the approaching figures, finding the scene almost laughable. She couldn’t believe that her own father was using the household staff to force her into a mental institution. Taking a deep breath to suppress the bitterness rising in her chest, she said coldly, “I suggest you guys back off if you don’t want to regret it.”
“Don’t talk back!” Russell shouted and then turned his gaze to the servants. “Whoever catches her first gets twenty thousand dollars!” At the promise of a reward, the servants rushed at Melody without a second thought.
Mabel smirked as she thought, ‘Melody, no matter how skilled you are, you can’t beat them all. There’s always strength in numbers. Just wait to be locked up, you little bitch!’
But just as Mabel’s thoughts settled, Melody’s form seemed to blur. Her speed was so incredible that she appeared as a mere streak of movement. In an instant, every servant who had charged at Melody was on the ground, writhing in pain.
“What… what’s happening?” Mabel’s eyes widened in disbelief as she took in the sight, considering there were over a dozen servants involved.
The butler, hiding behind a pillar, breathed a sigh of relief. He was glad he had the foresight to retreat, seeing the pitiful state of the servants.
Russell was the last to come to his senses. He stared at the groaning servants, questioning if Melody was truly his daughter. He wondered how had she become so formidable. Before he could process it further, Melody was standing right in front of him. He instinctively took a step back, panic flashing in his eyes. “What are you going to do?”
Mabel, sweating with fear, warned, “Melody, calm down! That’s our dad! If you lay a hand on him, you’ll be condemned!”
Russell, trying to muster his courage, straightened up. “Go ahead. I want to see if you dare!”
Melody sneered, stopping not far away from Russell. “Hit you? I’d rather not dirty my hands.” She pulled out a document she had written, holding it up in front of Russell. “Sign this immediately, and from now on, we have no further ties!”
“Over my dead body!” Russell refused without a second thought. “You ungrateful wretch, you won’t get anything from this family!”
“Anything from this family?” Melody said with a bitter laugh. “Without my mother, would this family even exist?”
Before Russell could respond, the sound of sirens cut through the chaos. Mabel’s eyes lit up with triumph as she said, “You’re done for! The police are here. We’re pressing charges for assault!”
“I was only defending myself,” Melody said coolly, showing no fear.
At that moment, Yolanda’s voice rang out from the doorway. “Russell! Mabel! I’m back.”
Both Russell and Mabel looked toward the door in surprise. Yolanda entered, flanked by two police officers. Mabel rushed over to Yolanda, overwhelmed with joy. Her mother was back, her pillar of support.
The mother and daughter embraced tightly, Mabel crying with relief, “Mom, you’re finally back!”
Yolanda nodded and quietly asked, “Did you get help from Ulric?”
“Yes!” Mabel said excitedly. “I didn’t expect him to act so quickly…”
“No wonder…” Yolanda left her thought unfinished. It was clear now why the person who had betrayed her suddenly changed his story, choosing to admit to defamation rather than revealing her involvement in the theft of the ley Clear Cosmetics formula.
“Yolanda,” Russell said, stepping towards his wife. “It’s a relief you’re back. We owe it all to Mabel,”
If Yolanda hadn’t returned, the family’s reputation would have been ruined, and Mabel’s future would have been at an end. Russell was just relieved that Yolanda was back and didn’t think much about the personal suffering Yolanda endured.
“Yeah…” Yolanda, not realizing Russell’s true thoughts, assumed he was simply worried about her well-being. Noting the police presence, she quickly added, “Truth will come out in the end. I always knew I’d come back.” As she spoke, her gaze fell on the servants sprawled on the ground, and she asked in surprise, “Russell, what happened here?”
Russell, snapping back to the present, pointed at Melody and told the officers, “Officers, arrest her! She’s the one who assaulted the servants and threatened to take half of our assets!”
The officers, initially just escorting Yolanda, became serious upon hearing this. “What’s going on?”
Melody spoke up to explain immediately, “They attacked me first!”
“You’re lying! Assaulting people and then trying to make excuses in front of the police? You’ve crossed the line!” Russell shouted angrily. “As your father, I can’t control you anymore. You’re going to the station for sure!” Turning to the officers with a forced smile, Russell said, “This is my daughter. She’s always been rebellious, and now she resorted to violence. Please, take her away!”
The officers exchanged uncertain glances. After a brief silent exchange, one officer asked, “A young woman took down all these people?”
“Absolutely. If you don’t believe me, you can ask them!”
As the servants prepared to speak, a stern voice interrupted, “Russell. Why are you always stirring up such chaos at home?”
Everyone turned to see Margaret, who should have been too ill to move, was at the doorway.
Chapter 380
“Margaret?” Yolanda looked surprised. She did not
understand why Margaret from the Swanson family would appear in their house.
However, she quickly realized that she had recognized the wrong person.
It wasn’t Margaret from the Swanson family. It was clearly Maria.
Due to the fact that elderly people looked similar, and Yolanda had not seen Maria for a long time, she had a deep-rooted feeling that Maria was dying and couldn’t walk. Thus, she recognized the wrong person.
“Mom?” Yolanda was extremely shocked at this moment.
She looked at Maria in shock as Maria walked towards her step by step.
Maria’s footsteps were steady, and she did not even need to rely on her walking stick. There were no signs of her being seriously ill or poisoned.
Yolanda thought, ‘How could this be?’
According to the dosage and time, Maria should be unable to take care of herself at this time.
Yolanda suddenly had a very bad feeling. Yolanda subconsciously looked at Melody. When Yolanda saw that Melody’s expression was calm and unsurprised, Yolanda’s heart sank crazily.
*****
Russell did not recognize the wrong person. He couldn’t possibly mistake his mother for someone else.
He was also very surprised, but pleasantly so.
He quickly walked forward and reached out to support Maria.
However, before Russell’s hand could touch Maria, Maria shook his hand off. “I don’t need a blind person like you to support me.”
Russell’s body stiffened when he was pushed away. He did not understand why Maria said that.
Maria’s gaze swept across the entire place and finally landed on the servants who had deliberately not gotten up.
She said, “Why aren’t you getting up? Do you want me to help you up personally?”
With Maria’s words, the servants did not dare to pretend anymore and got up nimbly.
The two police officers looked at each other again and felt that the atmosphere in this house was extremely strange.
“Sirs.” Maria looked at the two police officers and said, “It’s just some family matters. There’s no need to trouble the two of you. Please go back and do your work.”
“You really don’t need our help?” one of the police officers asked.
Maria replied, “Yes, I’ll call the police again if necessary.”
The police officer nodded. When he saw that the people on the ground were fine, he left after lecturing them.
When Russell saw that the two police officers were about to leave, he stepped forward to make them stay. “Sirs! Please wait.”
Maria’s face darkened. “Come back here!”
Russell stopped in his tracks and had no choice but to return to the living room.
He could not hide the grim expression on his face and said, “Mom, you don’t know what happened just now. Melody…”
“Shut up!” Maria looked at Russell coldly and said, “If you didn’t force Melody into a corner, would she have made a move? Instead of telling me what she did, why don’t you tell me what you did just now that forced her to deal with this group of people alone?”
Melody originally thought that her heart was as hard as steel and that she would not cry over the Fox family again.
However, when she heard that Maria trusted her unwaveringly and stood on her side, tears welled up in her eyes.
“Grandma…” She took a deep breath, trying to force back the tears.
Maria patted Melody’s back with heartache. “Good child, I know what kind of person you are. Don’t worry, I won’t let you suffer any grievances.”
Melody nodded. She suddenly felt that she was not fighting alone against this world.
Maria had given her more strength than she had imagined.
Melody wiped her eyes. There was a hint of determination in her eyes.
In the entire Fox family, Maria was her only family.
On the other end, Russell lowered his eyes guiltily, but he still said; Mom, I didn’t do anything. She suddenly asked me to write an agreement to sever our father-daughter relationship.
Maria ignored Russell.
She was only seriously examining Melody’s body. When Maria saw that Melody was not injured, she heaved a sigh of relief.
Mabel saw that Maria was obviously biased towards Melody, she ignored Yolanda’s gaze of dissuasion and spoke to Russell. Grandma, I can testify that what Dad said is true. Melody took out a pen and paper and asked Dad to write the agreement to sever their ties.
Melody smiled mockingly. She took out the agreement written by Russell and handed it to Maria. Grandma this is the agreement Dad wrote. Take a look.
Maria nodded and narrowed her eyes as she read the agreement.
After reading it, her expression med even more grim. She looked at Russell in disbelief and asked, “As a father you actually want to snatch your child’s things?
Russell’s lips twitched awkwardly “I-I just wanted to use them to force her to admit her mistake.
“Enough! You’re my son. How could I not know what you’re thinking?
“Although I had been recuperating in my room and did not go out, I had watched the entire live broadcast of the bet of Silk Beauty Cosmetics.
“That is something that Melody has obtained with her own ability. No one can snatch it away, not even you. Russell, you’re really getting more muddle-headed the longer you live. Do you think you’ll benefit from gaining Silk Beauty Cosmetics?
“In less than a day, everyone will know that you’ve stolen it from your own daughter. They won’t be envious of you. They will only criticize you behind your back.”
Russell felt extremely awkward. When he thought of that. he could not help but feel a little vexed.
He thought, ‘Yeah, why haven’t I thought of that? If I take away Silk Beauty Cosmetics and then turn around to kick Melody out of the house, I’ll be condemned without even needing Melody to explain the situation to everyone.
Silverlake was not that big. There were no secrets at all.
Russell’s face turned pale and he was speechless.
Maria waved her hand. “We’ll settle today’s score later. I have something more important to announce.”
Russell was stunned and asked in confusion, “What’s it?”
Maria ignored him and turned her attention to Yolanda. who had been silent all this while.
When Yolanda felt Maria’s gaze, her mind was in a mess. It was as if ants were crawling in her heart. She felt extremely uncomfortable.
However, she still forced herself to remain calm and asked with a dry smile, “Mom, what are you going to announce?”
Maria took out a piece of paper that she had written in advance from her pocket and handed it to Yolanda. She ordered, “Sign it for me.”
Yolanda felt that something was wrong and quickly looked at the paper.
It was also an agreement, but it was a divorce agreement. The agreement clearly stated that she would leave the Fox family with nothing.
Russell was also very curious. He stuck his head out to look at the paper. When he saw what was written on the agreement, his eyes suddenly widened.
He exclaimed, “Leave with nothing? Mom, what are you doing? Why are you asking Yolanda to leave with nothing?”
When Mabel heard that, she was stunned and her face turned pale. “Grandma, it’s Melody’s fault. Why are you asking Mom to leave with nothing? She just came back from the police station. She doesn’t know anything.”
