Melody Strikes Back

Chapter 276

Ander paced back and forth at the entrance of the operating room with a worried expression.

Zoe pressed her temples and said irritably, “Stop pacing. It’s giving me a headache!”

Only then did Ander stop in his tracks. Ander was so anxious that his heart seemed to be burning. He reached out to touch the cigarette box.

However, he remembered that this was a hospital and stuffed the cigarette box back into his pocket.

“I’m going out for a smoke,” Ander announced abruptly.

As soon as he finished speaking, the two nurses walked towards the special passageway with a small cart full of blood bags.

Ander recognized that the two nurses as part of the team treating Lucas, Ander hurried after them, asking anxiously, “Why do you need so many blood bags? Has something happened to my son?”

The nurses exchanged a glance, one of them, older and with a complex expression, said cautiously, “Your son should be fine.”

“What do you mean ‘should be fine? What’s happened to him?!” Ander’s face, naturally stern, looked even more intimidating.

The nurses were shocked. They avoided eye contact and said, “Please don’t delay our work. Without these blood bags, your son would be in serious trouble!”

Only then did Ander take a step back and make way for them.

Zoe was already crying in panic. She sobbed and asked Ander, “Could our son really not make it?”

“Don’t say such depressing things! Didn’t you hear what Dr. Stanton said? Miss Fox’s medical skills are better

than his. Lucas will be fine.” said Ander.

“But Dr. Stanton said the same about Regina before,” Zoe added.

“Stop talking!” Ander said to hush Zoe.

Ander frowned so hard that he could have crushed a fly.

Minutes ticked by. Two hours later, in the tense waiting, the lights in the operating room finally dimmed, signaling the end of surgery.

Soon after, Rodney walked out with a smile on his face.

“Mr. Morgan is out of danger,” Rodney announced.

With just one sentence, Ander, a middle-aged man in his forties, was instantly brought to tears.

Ander gripped Rodney’s hand tightly, struggling to say, “Thank you.”

Rodney shook his head and replied. “You should thank Miss Fox, not me. She took charge during the operation; I barely had a role.”

Ander nodded repeatedly. “Yes, we owe her a great deal. She’s our family’s saviour.”

Zoe, now recovering from panic, quickly asked, “Where’s Miss Fox? Why hasn’t she come out?”

“Miss Fox fainted again.” Rodney sighed and said, “After five to six hours of high-intensity work, I only found out later that she barely ate anything today. Even Iron Man can’t stand such a situation, let alone a little girl like her.”

Zoe’s heart tightened.

“Will Miss Fox be alright?”Zoe asked.

Rodney comforted Zoe and said. “She shouldn’t be in any danger. I’ve had her put on an IV, and though her hypoglycemia is severe, she’s still young. I believe she’ll wake up soon.”

Zoe heaved a sigh of relief.

Zoe did not want anything to happen to her benefactor because of them. If not Zoe would feel guilty for the rest of her life.

“As for Mr. Morgan,” Rodney said again, “He has been sent to the ICU for observation. There are too many wounds on his body. We have to prevent the sources of the infection, so you cannot visit him for three days.”

The Morgan couple quickly replied, “We understand.”

In the VIP ward.

Melody was jolted awake by a sharp pain in her hand. Subconsciously, she looked and saw a nurse holding a syringe, looking at her with surprise.

“Miss Fox, you’re finally awake!” exclaimed the nurse.

Melody nodded, asking, “How long was I unconscious? What time is it now?”

“Over an hour. It’s exactly midnight now. I’m sorry, the IV needle slipped out earlier. I’m reinserting it for you. Your veins are quite narrow, so it might take a moment. Please bear with me.” replied the nurse.

Melody’s head was still dizzy but she retracted her hand and said in a hoarse voice, “There’s no need for an IV. I’m much better. How is Lucas’s condition now?”

“Mr. Morgan is stable. He’s under constant ICU care. Please focus on your health first. Your hypoglycemia is severe. I’ll resume your infusion and have someone from the nurse’s station bring oatmeal. I’ll also inform Mr. and Mrs. Morgan. They’re worried about you, but they had to sign some papers with Dr. Stanton earlier.” the nurse replied.

Melody’s stomach growled loudly. She nodded gratefully. “Thank you, sorry to trouble you.”

“No trouble at all. Your heroic deeds have spread throughout our hospital. You’re my idol!” the nurse replied excitedly.

Blushing slightly, the nurse quickly resumed the infusion and hurried out.

Melody pressed a certain acupuncture point on his body, and the dizziness finally dissipated a little.

Melody then reached for the phone on the bedside table. In the next second, she sat up quickly.

Melody’s phone showed that her backup lab had been forcibly entered three hours ago.

During surgery, Melody had turned off her phone to avoid interfering with the equipment, and she was unaware of the intrusion.

Adrenaline replaced her fatigue. Melody removed the needle and hurried out of bed.

At the hospital entrance, she bumped into James heading upstairs with a bag of food.

“The doctor discharged you? Mr. Swanson just finished his work and is rushing over,” said James.

“Something happened in Icy Clear Cosmetics’s laboratory. I have to rush over immediately,” Melody said concisely.

James didn’t hesitate, he handed Melody the food and turned around to drive.

Melody quickly arrived downstairs at Icy Clear Cosmetics with James’s help. However, the door of the building was locked. There was no way to enter.

“Do you need someone to break in?” James asked.

Melody frowned and fell silent for two seconds before saying, “I’ll make a call first.”

With that, she took out her contact list and dialed Tim’s number.

No one picked up after a long time, so Melody simply used her hacking skills to locate Tim’s location.

Soon after, the results showed that Tim was in a club called the Golden Lounge in Silverlake.

“Found him. Let’s go,” Melody said.

Melody turned around and got into the car.

James was astonished.

If James wasn’t mistaken, he had just witnessed Melody using hacking skills to locate Tim.

How could a country girl like her know hacking? And Melody seemed quite proficient.

James patted his head. After confirming that he was not hallucinating, he immediately sent a message to inform Ken that he and Melody were going to the Golden Lounge. Then, he drove to where Tim was.

James could not help but ask as he drove, “Where did you learn your hacking skills?”

Melody was flipping through the surveillance cameras she had installed in the spare laboratory when she saw Leo and Tim bringing a group of people to move the device she bought. Other experimental tools had been moved away, as well as the general test samples she had transferred, were also moved.

Melody replied with dark eyes, “Self-taught.”

“Self-taught? Alright.” This seemed to be the only reasonable answer.

After all, how could there be a hacker expert in the countryside who could teach Melody this technique?

What James did not know was that Melody’s hacking skills were taught by a hacker Master Parker had rescued.

Melody had learned from Master Parker since she was young, Master Parker goes by the philosophy: “Learn as long as you live.”

Soon, they arrived at the Golden Lounge.

Chapter 277

As James was parking the car, he introduced the place to Melody, “The Golden Lounge is owned by the Swanson Group but is currently managed by Ulric. If we go in, we can’t use our real identities, or we’ll cause trouble for Mr. Sawnson,” explained James.

Melody nodded. “I understand. Let’s go.”

The Golden Lounge lived up to its name, with luxurious decor

reminiscent of a medieval European castle.

The waiter was all dressed in a tuxedo and appeared well-trained.

Despite Melody Fox’s plain attire, the waiter showed no disdain and politely approached, asking, “Do you have a reservation or would you like to book a private room?”

Melody calmly replied, “I’m here to

see a friend, Tim Mayer from Icy Clear Cosmetics.”

“Oh, you mean the private room reserved by the chairman of Silk Beauty Cosmetics?” the waiter asked.

A flicker of doubt crossed Melody’s eyes.

Jessica Summers from Silk Beauty Cosmetics was here too?

It seemed Melody had come at an “inconvenient” time.

Maintaining her composure, Melody nodded, “Yes.”

“Please follow me.” The waiter gestured for them to follow and led the way.

They arrived at Room 888 on the second floor, where the waiter stopped.

“This is it.” the waiter said.

“We’ll just go in ourselves,” Melody replied.

“Alright, please go ahead.” The waiter didn’t think too much about it. After all, no one dared to cause trouble at the Golden Lounge.

After the waiter left, Melody kicked open the door of the private room. The commotion was so loud that it even covered the music in the private room. Everyone instantly looked towards the door.

Melody quickly scanned the private room and saw Tim and Leo sitting on both sides of Jessica. Notably, a woman who seemed ageless sat next to Leo.

Melody instantly recognized her as Jennie Taylor, her Junior Sister and a former apprentice of Master Parker. Everyone in the room was taken aback. Tim was the first to react with displeasure, standing up and pointing at Melody, questioning, “What are you doing here?”

Melody retorted, “I see that everyone here is from Icy Clear Cosmetics and Silk Beauty. If there’s a company dinner, as a member of Icy Clear Cosmetics, why can’t I participate? Or are you feeling guilty and didn’t want me to know?”

Time choked and looked uncomfortable.

Leo quickly stepped forward, apologizing, “I’m sorry, Miss Fox. Miss Summers invited us to discuss the details of the bet. I should have called you, but I thought you might not be comfortable in a place like this, so I didn’t.”

“Enough with the excuses!” Melody cut to the chase, “I don’t care why you and Mr. Tim are here. I want to know where you moved the things from my lab.”

The smile on Leo smile did not waver.

“So, Miss Fox, you’re here for that,” Leo said.

Melody hated people who smiled deceitfully, She coldly warned, “Return my things immediately. Otherwise, don’t blame me for being rude!”

Leo feigned innocence, “Why are you so aggressive, Miss Fox? Did you misunderstand us?”

“There is no misunderstanding,” Melody said, showing the surveillance footage from her lab in front of Leo.

The smile on Leo’s face stiffened for a moment, but he quickly found an excuse.

“Miss Fox, this is the company’s lab. We have the right to handle anything in it. We took the equipment because our R&D department needed it. As you know, the products will likely be used to participate in the bet in three days, so we have to prioritize it. I’m sorry.” Melody’s face darkened. “It’s fine if you take the rest, but I bought that equipment myself. You have no right to take it!”

Leo signaled Tim with his eyes, and Tim shamelessly said, “Anything in the company belongs to the company. How can you say we have no right? Is your name on it?”

Melody Fox squinted her eyes, coldly saying, “Leo, Tim don’t think I don’t know your intentions. You’re just trying to delay my research and development progress so that you can take advantage of the situation and snatch Icy Clear Cosmetics from Wilmot. Let me tell you, that will never happen! This is your last chance. Will you return my things or not?”

Leo slowly wiped the smile off his face. Leo said, “Miss Fox, I don’t understand what you mean. As for the item, we will definitely return it to you, but only after the bet is over.”

“So, you refuse to return them, right?” replied Melody.

Melody’s voice was icy, a flash of fury in her eyes.

Leo’s patience was wearing thin. He stopped pretending and coldly said, “That’s right. I’m not returning them. What do you want to.”

Before Leo could finish his sentence, his neck was grabbed by a slender hand.

Leo lost his freedom to breathe instantly.

Leo was furious. No one had ever dared lay a hand on him.

Leo reached out to grab Melody’s hand that was strangling his neck, but just as he raised his hand, Melody restrained him with her other hand.

Leo was shocked to discover that this girl, who was at least a head shorter than him, was much stronger than him.

“Ugh.” Leo let out.

In an instant, Leo’s face turned pale. He gasped, “Let go.”

Tim finally realized something was wrong.

Tim thought Leo could easily handle Melody, but that was clearly not the case.

Tim quickly went forward to help, but before he could take a step, James, who was behind Melody, threw him over his shoulder and he fell to the ground.

“Ouch,” Tim screamed in pain and rolled on the ground.

“Melody.” Jessica finally stood up and said calmly, “There’s no need for us to be enemies. Let’s forget about the incident with Wilmot’s child and whatever happened tonight. I promise you’ll get a share once Icy Clear Cosmetics is mine.”

Melody coldly replied, “Give up. The winner will be Icy Clear Cosmetics. Prepare to be taken to court.”

“You” Jessica’s face turned angry.

Just as Jessica was about to flare up, Jennie suddenly reached out and pressed her down.

The seemingly light touch made Jessica unable to stand up at all.

After Jennie asked Jessica to sit down, she walked over to Melody.

“Miss Fox, let’s not resort to violence. All you want the equipment? We’ll return it.” said Jennie.

Melody hesitated, seeing Leo nearly unconscious, she finally let go.

Melody looked at Jennie and silently assessed her.

Jennie looked younger in person than in photos, easily passing for someone in their thirties.

Jennie supported Leo, who was coughing non-stop. She took out a pill

from somewhere and quickly stuffed it into Leo’s mouth.

Leo’s condition improved rapidly. But his eyes were filled with anger.

Leo couldn’t believe a young girl had overpowered him. It would be a joke if it got out.

Leo furiously ordered, “Jessica, are all your people dead? Hurry up and arrest her!”

Chapter 278

“Wait,” Jennie said

Jennie suddenly spoke, she then gave Leo and Jessica a reassuring look before turning Melody with a smile and said, “Little sister, you’re Melody Fox, right? I know about you. You were abandoned by the Fox family in the countryside for over ten years and only recently brought back. It must be hard for you at the Fox family, isn’t it?”

“Get to the point,” Melody said impatiently.

Jennie nodded. “Then I’ll be frank. Helping Wilmot might only earn you a thank you, but if you stand with us, the benefits will be much more than just a thank you. Do you want to live a life where you can’t hold your head high in front of the Fox family? It’s normal for young people to have a temper, but I hope you think this over carefully before giving us an answer.”

“There’s no need to think about it. I won’t cooperate with you. Don’t talk so much nonsense. I just want to take back what’s mine!” Melody replied immediately.

Jennie lowered her eyes and chuckled. “Miss Fox, you are truly a stubborn young person.”

As she finished speaking, Jennie suddenly pulled out a dagger from her waist, aiming it at Melody’s throat.

Melody reacted quickly and bent down to dodge, but the next moment, Jennie stabbed at her again.

Melody quickly dodged by bending over, but Jennie attacked again in the next instant.

Barely avoiding the strike, Melody switched from defense to offense, delivering a swift kick to Jennie’s hand.

“Damn it!” said Jennie.

Jennie cursed while lunging forward again.

However, Melody was faster than her. In an instant, she moved behind Jennie, kicking her in the lower back.

“Ah!” Jennie cried out, nearly stumbling to the ground.

James watched in awe at Melody’s

strength and speed.

“Hurry up and help!” Leo shouted urgently.

Jessica’s people finally reacted, swarming forward.

James recovered from his shock and hurried to assist in dealing with the lackeys.

Jessica cowered in a corner. She had no experience in fighting and was terrified by the scene.

Jessica was here to discuss matters with Leo today therefore she did not bring many bodyguards with her. Looking at Melody and James’s skills, Jessica realized they were quickly losing the upper hand.

What terrified Jessica even more was that she knew that Melody was under the protection of Ken.

Even if Jessica agrees, she is still unable to handle Ken.

Jessica hesitated for a moment before her eyes suddenly lit up.

She remembered they were at the Golden Lounge, Ulric’s territory. Thinking of this, Jessica immediately took advantage of the chaos and quietly slipped out to seek help.

Outside, she grabbed a passing waiter. “Someone’s causing trouble in our private room. Go find your manager and call security! Inform your boss Ulric that Ken’s people are here causing trouble! It’s a woman named Melody Fox!”

Everyone in Silverlake knew that Ulric and Ken were not on good terms, especially the staff at the Golden Lounge.

Upon hearing it was Ken’s people causing trouble, the waiter realized the seriousness and ran to report.

After running to the office of the person in charge, he hurriedly shouted, “Mr. Smith, Bad news!”

As soon as he finished speaking, he realized that another person was sitting in Mr. Smith’s office.

The man sat in a wheelchair, exuding an air of elegance.

It was none other than their big boss, Ulric Swanson.

The waiter was shocked and quickly restrained his flustered expression. He greeted respectfully, “Mr. Swanson”

Ulric raised his eyes slightly, teasing, “What is it? Is there a fire?”

The waiter realized that he had lost his composure just now and quickly shook his head. “No, no fire. Someone is causing trouble in a private room. The guests are already fighting in the room booked by Miss Summers of Silk Beauty Cosmetics. I think someone broke in and started a fight.”

“Oh?” Ulric found it interesting. “Who’s causing trouble here?”

“It’s the people from Ken Swanson,” the waiter answered quickly.

“Ken Swanson?” Ulric’s smile vanished and a cold and gloomy expression appeared in his eyes. Ulric terrifying aura was overwhelming, causing the waiter’s back to turn cold and he broke out in cold sweat.

Mr. Smith finally understood why the waiter ran in a panic.

Mr. Smith turned to Ulric and asked, “Mr. Swanson, how should we handle this?”

Ulric leisurely lit a cigarette, exhaling smoke before calmly saying, “Beat them to death.”

“What?” Mr. Smith widened his eyes in disbelief and asked, “Kill them directly?”

“What?” Ulric raised an eyebrow, looking at Mr. Smith expressionlessly. “Do you want to die for his people?”

Mr. Smith’s forehead was drenched in cold sweat. He hurriedly waved his hand and said, “Of course not, but wouldn’t killing someone at the Golden Lounge affect your business here?”

“What’s there to fear?” Ulric said indifferently. “We’ll find a scapegoat. Say it was an accident while maintaining order. Whoever volunteers for the scapegoat role will be rewarded with a lifetime of wealth.”

“Understood.” Mr. Smith nodded and looked at the waiter coldly. “Are you deaf? Hurry up and do it.”

“Yes.” The waiter replied. Just as he was about to run out to pass on the message, he suddenly remembered what Jessica had said and turned back.

The waiter mustered his courage and asked, “Mr. Swanson, are we really going to beat them to death? Miss Summers said that the troublemaker is a woman.”

Ulric’s eyes flashed with surprise.

Beside him, Mr. Smith asked in confusion, “A woman? A woman single-handedly handling a room full of people?”

“That’s what Miss Summers said.” the waiter replied.

“Mr. Swanson?” Mr. Smith turned around and asked Ulric again.

Ulric was silent for two seconds before saying, “Proceed as I instructed.”

“Understood.” The waiter, without further hesitation, ran out.

After the door closed, Ulric asked, “Every private room has a pinhole camera, right?”

Mr. Smith immediately understood what Ulric meant. Mr. Smith used the office computer to access the footage from where Jessica was.

The camera was high-definition and could clearly see the situation in the private room.

It was already a mess inside. Almost all the decorations were scattered on the ground.

Ulric’s eyes immediately focused on Melody, who was fighting Jennie at that time.

Ulric had guessed the “woman” might be Melody, but seeing it confirmed still surprised him.

Melody’s movements were swift, precise, and ruthless, her speed extraordinary.

No one, man or woman, in the entire

Halcyon, could match Melody’s skills.

“This Melody is really interesting.” Ulric stroked his chin with great interest.

Mr. Smith asked curiously, “Do you know this girl? Her skills are impressive. If she were ours, we would

never fear trouble at the Golden Lounge. It’s a pity that her face is not flattering.”

Ulric’s expression darkened as he glanced at Mr. Smith,

“You think this girl is good?” Ulric asked.

Mr. Smith did not understand Ulric’s intent but answered honestly, “Her skills are unmatched, there are indeed not many people who can defeat her.” At that moment, the camera showed Ulric’s men entering the private room.

Chapter 279

In the private room.

Melody and James originally had the upper hand, but at this moment, a large group of people suddenly surged in from the door.

“Not good!” James cried out, standing back-to-back with Melody, and warned, “These are Golden Splendor’s enforcers, and they’re quite skilled. Be careful.”

“Got it,” Melody replied.

As soon as Melody finished speaking, the enforcers were already upon them. Unlike Jessica’s unarmed subordinates. Each of them held an iron rod or dagger.

Melody immediately sensed something was off.

These people’s gazes were not aimed at settling things, but at taking her and James’s lives.

The sound of swinging rods echoed as Melody and James quickly separated to defend themselves.

The enforcers quickly split into two groups to attack Melody and James respectively.

After the two of them finally dealt with this group of thugs, Jessica’s subordinate, who was lying on the ground, got back up again.

As time passed, Melody gradually began to run out of stamina.

James’s wasn’t faring much better. Unable to dodge in time, a dagger cut a gash on James’s cheek, causing blood to drip down instantly.

Jennie seized the opportunity and used the silver needle in her sleeve to stab at an acupuncture point on the back of James’s neck.

A sharp pain followed, and James’s vision suddenly blurred, his body weakened, and quickly lost his ability to fight.

The Golden Lounge enforcers

immediately tightened his grip on the iron rod in his hand and swung it hard at the back of James’s head.

“James!” Melody exclaimed, kicking away the enforcer in front of her and quickly rushing to James’s side, pulling him away just in time to avoid the deadly blow.

Melody’s swift action helped James to dodge the fatal hit.

“Miss Fox, something’s wrong with me. My head is spinning,” James said weakly.

Melody spotted the silver needle on the back of James’s neck and quickly pulled it out.

However, it was clear that the poison had already spread throughout his entire body. James’s footsteps were weak and he could no longer stand steadily, James then collapsed weakly to the ground.

Melody could only take care of James while dealing with the enforcers and Jennie who kept trying to plot against her.

Jennie sneered as she looked at Melody who was gradually getting tired of dealing with the situation. “You refuse a toast only to drink a forfeit. Since you won’t cooperate with us, prepare to die!”

Leo fanned the flames from the side, “Kill her!”

In the next second, three silver needles suddenly flew out of Jenniei’s sleeve and stabbed straight at Melody.

Melody reacted quickly and grabbed an enforcer to use as a shield.

With a scream, the enforcers in front of him fell to the ground, twitching and foaming at the mouth.

“Damn it!” Jennie cursed in frustration.

Jennie picked up the dagger that had fallen to the ground and charged it at Melody

However, this time, Jennie instructed the enforcers to attack the incapacitated James, forcing Melody to divide her attention and launch another attack on Melody.

Melody could not take care of James while fending off Jennie’s deadly attacks.

Just as it seemed Melody and James would die at Jenniei’s hands, a voice suddenly sounded from the doorway. “Everyone stop!” the voice echoed.

The enforcers instantly halted at the sound of the voice.

Jennie also looked towards the door. A man in a wheelchair with neatly cut short hair and a slightly open black shirt, revealing sickly pale skin, with well-defined facial features and a straight nose, like a masterpiece sculpted by God, entered.

“Mr. Swanson!” the enforcers addressed.

The enforcers called out as they restrained Melody, preventing her from making any harmful moves against Ulric.

Melody also saw Ulric and her pale face darkened instantly. ‘Ulric was actually at the Golden Lounge. Could it be that Ulric already knew that Melody was in the private room, so he gave these enforces a death order? But if that was the case, why would Ulric appear personally?”

Just as Melody pondered Ulric’s intention, she heard Ulric look at her in surprise and ask, “Melody, why are you here?”

Melody frowned, even more, confused about Ulric’s intentions.

Before she could respond, Ulric smiled and said to Jessica, “Miss Sumers, my men reported trouble in the private room. Since you’re a guest at Golden Splendor, I sent them to help. But I didn’t know it was my friend who disturbed you. Miss Summers, would you be willing to let this matter go?”

As soon as Ulric said this, Jessica was shocked.

Jessica looked shocked. “She is also your friend?”

Wasn’t Ulric and Ken on bad terms?

How could they have Melody as a mutual friend?

Who exactly was this wretched girl? Could it be that the information about Melody was fake? Was Melody, not an unloved idiot who had returned from the countryside?

Leo was equally stunned.

Melody was Ulric’s friend?

Did that mean he had offended Ulric?

For a moment, a cold sweat broke out on Leo’s forehead.

On the other end, Jessica hesitated for a few seconds before forcing a smile and said, “Since you are Mr. Swanson’s friend, I will certainly not pursue the matter. I wonder if Miss Fox is willing to reconcile and pretend that nothing happened today?”

“Melody.” Ulric looked at her and said gently, “Apologies to Miss Summers quickly and we’ll call it even.”

Ulric’s soft voice made Melody’s stomach churn.

Melody wasn’t willing to leave without getting what she wanted.

But looking at James who was lying unconscious on the ground. Melody had no choice but to grit her teeth and say, “I’ll pretend nothing happened.”

Ulric nodded and said to Jessica, “Miss Summers, you heard her. She’s willing to reconcile.”

Jessica forced a smile and said, “In that case, we have settled it. But I must ask Miss Melody to leave immediately and not disturb us again.”

“Thank you, Miss Summers. Tonight’s drinks are on me. I’ll get someone to prepare another VIP room for you,” said Ulric.

Jessica felt slightly appeased.

To be able to gain a favour from Ulric, tonight’s scare was not in vain.

“Melody?” Ulric gestured for Melody to follow him but he looked down. Ulric saw Melody performing an acupuncture on James.

Melody performed acupuncture on a few acupuncture points without looking at them. Her technique was abnormally skilled.

In just a few seconds, the unconscious James suddenly started coughing and slowly woke up.

Seeing this, Ling’s eyes darkened. Melody’s skill made him even more intrigued.

In the crowd, Jennie’s eyes narrowed dangerously, and danger flashed across her eyes.

This technique was very similar to that person.

Could that person really still be alive?

If that was the case, she had to investigate this Melody thoroughly.

When James woke up and saw Ulric his entire body tensed up.

“Miss Fox,” said James.

Melody helped James up as he whispered, “Don’t be afraid; it’s okay.”

James felt a little awkward.

He was a man, yet he still needed a woman to comfort him.

Though he didn’t know what had happened while he was unconscious, Melody’s assurance made him feel safer.

“Let’s go,” Melody said.

While supporting James, who was still a little unsteady.

“Wait,” Ulric suddenly said.

Chapter 280

As Ulric spoke, the enforcers instantly blocked Melody and James’s way.

“What do you want?” Melody glared at Ulric coldly as she had prepared to escape with James at any moment.

No matter how powerful Ulric’s enforces were, he wouldn’t dare act openly on a crowded street.

Ulric looked into Melody’s eyes and instantly guessed what she was thinking.

Ulric said with a hurt expression, “Melody, you seem to have misunderstood me from the beginning. I don’t know if my brother told you something, but I just want to say that meeting someone doesn’t rely on hearsay, but on seeing with your own eyes.”

“So? What are you trying to say?”

Melody questioned.

Ulric looked around and appeared to be hesitant, “This is really not a place to talk. James is also injured. How about this? I’ll treat you to a meal another day and we can clear things up.”

“I don’t think that’s necessary and we are not close with each other,” Melody said.

A flash of anger crossed Ulric’s eyes, but it quickly disappeared.

Ulric smiled bitterly and said, “It seems like you still don’t appreciate my help today. The misunderstanding between us seems to be deep. But please let me clear things up. I promise that it will only take one meal.”

Melody frowned and was silent for a moment before she said, “I’ve been very busy recently. I don’t have much time.”

Ulric understood that as a hint and quickly said, “Contact me when you’re done.”

“We will see. We’re leaving now.” Melody replied and left.

Ulric nodded and signaled his enforcers to move aside with his eyes. The enforcers quickly stood on both sides and made way for Melody.

Melody supported James and walked out and she could feel countless gazes staring at her from behind.

Ulric looked at Melody’s figure with deep eyes with evidence of disgust in his eyes.

If not for her talent, Ulric would feel disgusted just by looking at such unattractive women.

Ulric had tried to win her over several times, but she always rejected him, unlike how she treated Ken.

This made Ulric feel that he had lost to Ken which he couldn’t tolerate.

Ulric decided he would extract every bit of value from her and then dispose of her ruthlessly.

If Melody was still disobedient after the meal, Ulric could only get rid of her.

When Mr. Smith saw that Melody was about to walk out, he couldn’t help but ask softly, “Mr. Swanson, are we going to let them go just like that? Let’s not talk about that woman first. James is Ken’s confidant. Killing him can significantly weaken Ken.”

Ulric retracted his gaze and said calmly, “No rush. My father is returning soon, and he seems to be considering naming a successor. At this critical moment, we can’t be too hasty. Killing James and Melody is a small matter, but if my father suspects something, our losses would be greater. After all, the old man still favours Ken.”

“Yes, I understand.” Mr. Smith answered.

No wonder Mr. Swanson suddenly changed his mind about killing. It turned out that it wasn’t just because he recognized Melody’s ability, but also because he was afraid of the suspicious Ramon

In the private room next door.

Leo finally stopped shaking when he couldn’t hear any noise from outside. However, the anxiety in his heart had yet to dissipate. Leo could not help but ask Jessica, Miss Summers, why didn’t you tell me about the relationship between Melody and Ulric? Wouldn’t Ulric come after us for what we did to Melody?”

Jessica had completely calmed down. Jessica took a deep breath and said calmly, “Don’t worry, he won’t. Ulric has always had a good reputation, unlike Ken. He’s not the sinister person you’re talking about. If he wanted to come after us, he could have done it just now without any need for scheming.”

Leo then heaved a sigh of relief.

“You’re right. Even after Ken crippled Ulric’s legs which forces Ulric to be in a wheelchair, Ulric hasn’t retaliated. He must indeed be an easygoing person.” Leo added.

Jessica almost revealed that Ken was also Melody’s friend but decided against it to avoid jeopardizing the bet between her and Leo’s cooperation.

After feeling reassured, Leo turned to look for Jennie but saw her sitting on the sofa, lost in thought.

Leo walked over worriedly and asked gently, “Jennie, what’s wrong? Did you hurt yourself just now? Let me see.”

Leo reached out to check if Jennie was injured.

However, Jennie took a step to the side and said with a cold expression, “I’m not injured. I just thought of an old friend.”

“What old friend?” Leo asked.

Jennie shook her head. “It’s nothing. I’m tired today and want to go back and rest early.”

After saying that, Jennie stood up from the sofa, greeted Jessica, and left the room.

Leo was about to chase after her but was rejected by Jennie.

“I want to be alone for a while. You haven’t finished your discussion with Miss Summer, so you don’t have to follow me out. You have to choose the experts for the day of the bet. That way, nothing will go wrong.”

“Alright.” Leo watched Jennie leave with a complicated expression.

Looking at Jennie’s slender back, Leo couldn’t help but swallow.

Jennie was the woman Leo desired most.

However, even though Jennie was together with him, Jennie barely let Leo touch her. This made him feel defeated, and his desire to conquer Jennie intensified.

Leo gritted his teeth and became even more determined to snatch Icy Clear Cosmetics back from Wilmot. Leo had returned to the private room to continue his discussion with Jessica. Jessica pretended to be concerned and asked about Jennie’s situation before getting down to business.

“Our bet has gained a lot of attention online, so we need the most

authoritative experts.” Jessica continued.

“Who?” Leo asked.

“Do you know Ander Morgan?” Jennie continued.

“Yes, he is the top-notch scientific research talent from Halcyon. Are you going to find him? But the professional field seems to be different” Leo added.

Jessica then answered, “Not him, his wife. She’s in charge of testing beauty and skincare products. Many of our new products need her approval. Her presence, along with Ander’s reputation, will ensure the bet’s credibility.”

“Alright, I understand. I’ll visit the Morgan family tomorrow.” Leo agreed.

“Okay, I’ll go with you,” Jessica said.

On the other side.

At the entrance of the Golden Lounge. Melody had just helped James out when he saw a business car sped to the side of the road. A tall figure hurriedly got out of the car.

Then, numerous business cars arrived swiftly.

All the passengers were all bodyguards in black suits.

“It’s Mr. Ken.” James immediately perked up and said excitedly, “He must have brought people to ensure I got out safely.”

Seeing them, Ken’s tense expression relaxed.

Ken then gestured, and the bodyguard quickly retreated back to the car. Within moments, the cars drove away. “Mr. Swanson.” James waved his hand. He did not forget to turn around and say to Melody, “Mr. Swanson really cares about my safety.”

However, as soon as James finished speaking.

I am a simple girl with a deep brown hair, and a brown eyes. As I grew up I was the laughing-stock of my cousins and playmates by teasing me "Negra" because I am not blessed with fair skin. Those memories just makes me "Smile" everytime I remember it, although I still have a dark skin but I love "Myself" Nakkkssss!!! I grew up in Castilla, Sorsogon, loved my elementary and high school but enjoyed most of my college days. Aside from my work I have other or rather many interest. I love adventure, learning new languages and it's culture, animals, natures, being out in the woods, in the mountains, long walks on the beach, in the rural areas, and i'm at home in the city as well. I'm a music enthusiast (any genre depend on my mood), a foodie, a portrait fanatic, and a movie buff. :) I can know a little bit about everything but I cannot master of anything. Personality wise, I think I am 30-50% good natured, 40 % charming, 15% sarcastic, 10% evil, 40% funny, 25% naugthy ;) :P, hmmm what else? ;) If you have a banner or Link Ads, an Articles, feel free to Email Me!
